Consistent service and improvement…

The app access system has improved significantly as time has gone on. It is always promising when companies bother to improve their equipment.
The staff are always working to keep the space clear, clean and accessible.

Gina at Shureguard was so helpful and…

Gina at Shureguard poole was so helpful and friendly when we came to collect our key and access our storage. Many of my family and friends have recommended this place to store our stuff whilst we are between places and now I see why. Felt very welcome and assisted.

Excellent facility

RUTHLESS IF YOU FALL INTO HARDSHIP — DO NOT BE SWAYED BY THE £1 OFFER

I would not recommend Shurgard Romford to anyone in hardship, homelessness, temporary accommodation, or any unstable financial situation. My honest experience is that they are a very ruthless company once you fall behind, even when they know you are trying to protect the full contents of your home.

I stored the contents of a family home with them after becoming homeless and being placed in temporary accommodation with my children. This was not a few boxes — it was household furniture, children’s belongings, important items, appliances and the contents of a home. I was a customer for around 19 months and paid thousands overall, over £5,000 by my calculation.

The £1 offer may look attractive at first, but do not be swayed by it. The ongoing monthly price became extremely expensive. My charge went from around £200, to around £235, then around £285 per month. Be very careful with the small print because prices can increase and it becomes very hard to get out once your household items are inside.

When I fell into hardship, even by days, access could be blocked and I was warned that my belongings could be disposed of. They knew I was in temporary accommodation with children and that the unit contained the full contents of my home. I was not abandoning anything. I was communicating and trying to pay. But the approach felt very cold and unforgiving.

A lot of my correspondence was with Shona, and later Jack. I am not saying anything personal about them, but the handling felt extremely ruthless and without much humility. It felt like there was no real care for a long-term customer or for the circumstances. It was just fees, arrears, access being blocked, notice periods and pressure.

In February 2025, I was told I had to remove my goods after falling behind. I was panicking and trying to borrow money for removals because I did not have the money. Then, shortly before the removal date, Shurgard told me the lifts were out of order and upper-floor access was only through fire escape stairs. They accepted this would likely not be feasible for my removal team because of the size of the unit. Only then was extra time/payment flexibility allowed. That showed me flexibility was possible, but it only seemed to happen because their own lift issue made removal unrealistic.

The lifts being out of order was also a major issue because when you have heavy furniture and a large unit, stair access is not realistic. Downsizing was suggested before as if it was simple, but moving heavy items, large furniture and appliances into another unit would mean paying for removal help again. That is not realistic when you are already in hardship.

Also check the insurance carefully. If you are storing the contents of a full home, basic cover may not be enough. Some of my items became mouldy, discoloured or damaged while stored, including chairs that were important to us.

More recently, after finally moving, I substantially cleared the unit on 9 June 2026. Only the final chairs/items were left because they could not fit in the van. I tried to deal with them responsibly by arranging a British Heart Foundation charity collection. Instead of practical help, I was told access could not be given unless I attended in person, and the focus went straight back to invoices, notice periods and further charges.

It was very upsetting because I was trying to do the right thing and donate usable items rather than waste them. But again, it felt like there was no kindness or flexibility — only charges.

My advice: only use Shurgard if you are completely financially secure and can afford price increases, insurance, notice periods, arrears and removal costs without any risk. If you are in hardship, do not store essential household belongings here unless you fully understand how quickly things can become stressful.

I wish I had chosen another provider.
