Horrible time with ShipGerman

I had a horrible time with ShipGerman. It was a comedy of errors and a very frustrating experience. I won't work with them again and would advise you to brace yourself in case you end up in the same boat as me.

Some details:

One of the packages had the sum of both package weights in their system. When I brought it up with their support team, they denied this, even though the scanned shipping label showed the weight of each package and made it clear that the weight they recorded was wrong.

The cost quoted for package consolidation and forwarding exceeded the value of the shipment by more than 200%. It exceeded the cost of forwarding both packages individually by 500%.

When attempting to return the shipment to sender, I was dealing with a helpful but clueless outsourced support team. There is no streamlined process for package return. The difficulty I encountered was beyond comical.

I can see where your frustration came from - especially regarding the parcel weight, the consolidation quote, and the return handling.

While in many cases the weight printed on the label can differ from the actual measured one, I completely agree our agent should have offered to re-check this right away. A re-check we have done for you now shows that the weight measured by us is correct and that the seller noted an incorrect weight on the shipping label.

Regarding the quoted shipping costs, I understand how this looked unreasonable. Since we don’t know the actual item sizes before receiving them, our system estimates based on the individual box sizes which can lead to an overestimation. In your case, the issue was made worse by Deutsche Post not being available for shipments to the US currently, which meant only the higher-priced express carriers were available. It’s an unfortunate edge case, and we’re working on improving how such situations are handled.

You also mentioned the difficulties with the return process due to a misunderstanding. We’ve recently welcomed several new agents to our support team, and while they’re still getting up to speed, it’s on us to make sure that customers don’t feel that learning curve. We’re already tightening our processes there.

I was ready to say this service was…

I was ready to say this service was great but they did THAT nasty thing, they had to. You create an account, the ask for regular information. They say nothing. You create a receiving address ID, they say nothing. You send a parcel, they receive it, they still don't mention anything. You pay for the forwarding and THEN... then you say I need to share a photo of my face (biometric data), plus photos of my id.. for the shipping to take place. I WOULD HAVE NEVER, EVER WOULD HAVE ACCEPTED TO SHARE SENSITIVE INFORMATION WITH YOU OR ANY OF YOUR RANDOM PARTNERS TO FORWARD ANYTHING, AND YOU INTENTIONALLY HIDE THIS BIOMETRIC VERIFICATION UNTIL THE CUSTOMER HAS NO OTHER OPTION BUT TO SWALLOW IT. I DEEPLY HOPE YOU GO UNDER. PS: Before you lie about this information being disclosed in advance, "identify using an id" is far, very far from collecting much more delicate biometric data.

Response: Yes, classic "it's in the fine print" kind of response. As as predicted you'd say, "id verification" is not a biometric scan. I also could not find any law requiring id verification (it may exist) and even less a biometric scan. I also don't care how times you repeat "securely handled", behind every single data leak there's a company that previously said the exact same thing. If the NSA can have their data leaked, how do you think you or Veriff can do a better job? And even then, if were are not lying and a biometric scan is legally required, why not doing it BEFORE even letting anyone ship something to you? because you know full well that people are 100X more likely to do it coerced, with a paid purchase waiting in your warehouse. I was not even against an ID check, or even biometrics, just against this kind of **** dishonest move.

Overall a brilliant experience

Overall a brilliant experience. I bought a pair of running shoes from a German online shop that wouldn’t ship to the U.K. direct (Brexit). I was able to quickly check with ShipGerman customer services that I had formatted my ShipGerman address correctly at the retailers. The customs declaration was completed automatically for me based on the retailer’s invoice. The shipping I selected was cheap and correspondingly slow but that’s what I chose so that’s fine - I couldn’t find an alternative supplier that could come anywhere close to ShipGerman’s budget offering. One minor problem - I needed to provide proof of ID for my first shipment and this wasn’t made clear in the emails so my shipment lost a day before I realised by looking at the dashboard. My dealings with customer service were excellent.
I was a little nervous using a service like this that if something ever went wrong with my delivery then I could end up trying to resolve things between ShipGerman, the retailer and the delivery company but ShipGerman are very responsive and professional and I feel that I’d be able to trust them in the future if things ever went wrong. Thoroughly recommended.

Excellent Experience

The on-line store based in Germany, wasn't able to ship to my destination of Australia because of administration issues. They recommended ShipGerman to forward the package from Germany to Australia. The ShipGerman Website was straightforward, with simple instructions given on how to register. The Customer Service Team from ShipGerman were outstanding; they were polite, friendly and extremely helpful by responding to every query I had, guiding me every step of the way with impeccable communication. The consolidation of my items was economical for me. The shipment of my package by ShipGerman was efficient and quick and I didn't have to wait very long for the Items to arrive at my doorstep.
