I undertook first aid at work here and was simply appalled. It was a three day course with the first day comprising of basic first aid and the second two for advanced learning. On day 1, 30 people attended which was too many in my mind and it was not before long that the cracks started to show. Jarred, our instructor informed us that he was a last minute replacement and although he possessed most of the knowledge required to teach, he lacked the ability to do so. In his defence, there was a small but vocal group of critics who made disparaging remarks and disrupted the class. After a while and a particularly large disruption by gentleman with a sovereign the size of a planet, jared had had enough, informed us so and promptly walked out. At this point, the class erupted into chaos as those who wanted to learn argued with those who didn't. Initially, i sat in my chair chuckling to myself but, as i needed this certificate for my new role, i took the initiative to go and mediate with the lecturer. After, 15 mins of discussion with the lecturer and another colleague, i came back to brief the class that lunch was to be taken early and would resume after - i should have asked to be put on the payrol. Post lunch, we raced through the subject material not touching upon anything in depth or doing any practical. I was glad when the day was over. On arriving the next day, having been told to come at 2pm on a Sunday, i was pleased to see all the disruptive individuals were not attending that day. The instructor was different but equally as ineffective. He spent 20 mins telling us a story of how he had failed to do CPR effectively in Ghana. We did undertake some practical on the Sunday but clearly the instructor wanted to get out early (as he kept saying he wanted to ) so after this we ran through a mock test . We did ask if we could sit the exam then but were told it was not possible as it was a 3 day course. On day 3 we turned up and there was no instructor/invigilator. After 30 mins waiting, i went and spoke to reception who promptly gave us the test paper, informed us it was an open book test and walked out giving us instruction to leave our answer papers at reception. The paper was exactly the same as mock and we simply copied the answers out and left 5 mins later. A complete waste of a morning. If you want to receive your certificate, come here. If you want to learn first aid, do not. I just hope that none of these people need to use it in an emergency.
