Sexual predator

I attended a yoga teacher training here in 2024, and am filled with regret and shame that I did. Anand, the head teacher, is a sexual predator. Look up safe house yoga. They keep trying to sweep it under the rug. Do not invest your time and money here. Stand with victim/survivors.

Beware

It is deeply disappointing to learn that the leadership here is facing multiple sexual misconduct allegations and refusing to take accountability. While spiritual teachings are preached, the lack of personal integrity and responsibility behind the scenes is alarming. Do thorough research into the owner and leadership before committing your time, money, or trust to this institution.

Avoid Sattva Yoga Academy

I’ve completed two trainings here but can no longer recommend this place after learning about deeply concerning allegations involving the lead teacher. This school has worked very hard to “cover their tracks” and remove all of the witness statements and negative reviews online.

My own experience here was incredibly mixed. Some of the teachings themselves were powerful, but as many others have noted, I witnessed a extremely hierarchical and cult-like power dynamic established by the staff that left me unsettled. I was also subject to verbal abuse and public mockery for asking the lead teacher questions during satsangs, and I was most certainly not the only one.

Great experience, but I won't be returning or advising others to...

I studied at the academy recently and while I had an incredible experience, it also went alongside some red flags while I was there, that were confirmed for me a month after the course finished. It offered a great foundation to Asana and the ancient practice of Kriya and pranayama. I did the training alongside a wonderful group of humans. But my radar was going off while there with the teacher trainers there and how they fawned over the founder and placed him on a pedestal. While there, I had heard that there were allegations made by past students, women, of sexual relations. I wasn't there for the gossip and focused purely on the teachings, practices and getting my accreditation. I didn't like how Aanand spoke down on students during the wisdom talks...he spoke of letting go of the Ego, yet he had the biggest ego there. While in town before going to the academy, the locals asked me where I was doing my yoga training and when I mentioned Sattva, they would respond with "oh Anaand, he is a very good business man". No mention about his teachings on yoga or anything about yoga. I found this interesting. The allegations that later surfaced confirmed for me that my intuition was correct. There was only ONE google review that was negative when I looked into this yoga academy, and just like a restaurant that has a few negative reviews, I took it with a grain of salt. Had I known that the founder of Sattva had sexual abuse allegations made against him by several women, I wouldn't have attended or supported this school. It's been exposed that the marketing team have been working very hard to paint a completely different picture from the truth of this yoga academy.

I had been following the teachings of…

I had been following the teachings of the guy who leads this organization Anand Mehrotra, privately and was planning to visit the academy when I came to read about him and his sexual misconduct with students and teachers at the academy.
My deep trust in this academy and this guy Anand was broken and I feel for those who have gone through manipulation by him! Google his name and you will find the new accusations against him.

This was a totally mid yoga experience. For the price I was expecting more.

It was Kriya heavy, and being a Russian Massage Therapist they had no understanding of abdominal anatomy and that we do not "dig" for the small intestine.

Asana practice did not go into arm balances or advanced inversions.

Accommodations were typical Indian, but they charged too much. Food was good, but not enough protein for the exercise. I had to bring peanut butter.

Couldn't walk to Rishikesh, and Taxi was expensive as it was so far.

You can spend far less and get a more authentic experience. Great if you want western teachers who worship leader like a guru.

Guru talks like a fortune teller.

2 out of 10...I don't recommend.

And now apparently there are allegations against the leader.

Sattva is a wonderful spiritual retreat…

Sattva is a wonderful spiritual retreat center, and we have witnessed its journey. Mr. Anand is a very legitimate spiritual leader, but some people are trying to defame him. Over the years, while he was working, we never heard anything wrong about Sattva. I have received students who did their courses from Sattva, and everyone praises the work they do. Out of nowhere, influencers started making defamatory videos about them, which looks like a narrative against Sattva and Mr. Anand Malhotra. I wish him patience and strength to face this time, as whenever people are doing good to great, they face these difficulties, Hari Om

I would caution attending any training here

I attended this school several years ago and initially left feeling confused about many of my experiences there. Over time, I began hearing concerning accounts from other former students, and when multiple women later shared similar experiences publicly, it prompted me to reflect more deeply on what I had witnessed and experienced myself.

After leaving, I spent years in therapy working through the impact the school had on me. One of the most shocking moments was when my therapist identified many of the dynamics I described as consistent with a cult-like environment. Looking back, I agree. In my experience, the organization presented itself as a place of love, healing, and spiritual growth, but underneath that image I encountered manipulation, unhealthy power dynamics, and behavior that I believe caused significant harm to students.

What concerns me most is the imbalance of power between leadership and vulnerable individuals seeking guidance. I believe many people come to this school looking for healing and community, and the head teacher and i believe founder, Anand Ji, takes advantage of this.

Before making a decision, I strongly encourage prospective students to read the testimonies collected at Safehouse Yoga. The website contains firsthand accounts from former students and women who describe their experiences at the school. I believe these stories are important to consider.

I rarely write negative reviews, but I feel a responsibility to share my experience honestly. I encourage anyone considering this school to do extensive research, listen to former students, and carefully evaluate whether the environment is truly healthy and safe.

If I could give -100000 star review I…

If I could give -100000 star review I would.

Disgusting and disheartening “yogic spiritual community”

Highly recommend looking into safe house yoga website…
Multiple statements of women being abused and manipulated.

Why even be called Sattva when it’s the absolute opposite.

It’s the time and era to take full unwavering responsibility in TRUTH and PURITY.
Now more than ever in a time of distortion and corruption, is it a time to be SATTVIC.

I want NO ties and connections with Sattva and Anand whatsoever and feel deeply sorry for anyone who falls for this corruption and distortion.
Praying we can all truly lean into discernment when we enter “spiritual communities”.

I’m so disappointed, but also I am not surprised.
I saw during my 500 hour at Sattva the huge superiority complex, and distortion behind the scenes.
(Anand throwing fits, telling the entire class that a student can F off because the student thought it was a cult, getting upset when his podium wasn’t in place and making WOMEN carry the heavy podium for him, and many of the inner circle being TERRIBLY mean and treating the cleaners, cooks and worker like absolute crap.)

NOT SATTVA.

The false “love and light” era is over people. It’s time to stand, take up the sword of truth, and stop masking distortion with more “love and light”.

What happened to these women, and I’m sure plenty more, is disgusting and should not be taken lightly.
May we stand for truth!

My 300-hour yoga teacher training was a life-changing experience. I am deeply grateful to Anand and all the teachers at Sattva for providing such a high-quality training. No rumors could ever change what I personally experienced or diminish the value I gained from this journey. It has had a profound impact on both my personal and professional life, and I will always cherish the knowledge and wisdom I received.

I did not attend any course

I did not attend any course, but I was considering enrolling...

But after reviewing multiple sources, reviews here and receiving pricing information of around €6000 for a
6-week Jyotish course (with the same cost for the online), the price raised high concern and red flag.

For this duration and delivery, the cost appears disproportionately high, compared to many very well know and established Jyotish programs in India that offer very deep knowledge, longer training periods, and direct mentorship with very experienced masters at much much lower prices.

Such a pricing makes it very important to carefully evaluate what is actually included and whether the overall value justifies the investment.

I strongly encourage all students to compare alternatives, assess the depth of the curriculum, make a conscious and well-informed decision before committing.

Thank you for sharing your perspective our program is not positioned as a conventional Jyotish course. It is a lineage-based teaching, where the emphasis goes far beyond information delivery. The value lies in the depth of transmission, personalized guidance, and the integrity of teachings that have been preserved and passed down through direct mentorship rather than standardized curriculum formats.

Our courses are intentionally designed in smaller, more immersive settings, allowing for close interaction, individual attention, and ongoing support elements that are often difficult to scale or compare purely on duration or format. The pricing reflects not just the hours of instruction, but the years of study, experience, and direct access to a living tradition that students receive.
We absolutely agree that it’s important for every student to make a conscious and well-informed decision. Different programs serve different intentions, and we encourage individuals to choose what aligns most deeply with their goals and expectations.

If you ever feel called to understand more about what we offer, we’d be happy to share further details and help you make that decision with complete clarity.

If you want American teachers in India, then this is the place for you.

Going all the way to India to have American teachers was not the experience I signed up for. It felt clicky, and the teachers would walk past you in the grounds with no eye contact, acknowledgement or greeting, when students would all smile and say hi - that seemed very odd. The condescending tone between teachers and students was strong. Anand's wisdom talks were the only highlight. For me, anyway. I did leave before the full 3 weeks were up as it just didn't sit right with me. Oh, and my room had black mold growing in it :( PS Looking at other reviews where it states negative reviews have been taken down, is the only reason I am posting this. I don't like bullies and people have a right to speak their truth.

As a follow up to Sattva's response...... I was unable to enter the date I attended as it is blocked off, but I do have better things to do with my time than review a place I never went. And the date is irrelevant. I attended. I did not have one Indian teacher during my time at Sattva. That is a fact, accurate and verifiable. I was there! Anand did his journeys and wisdom talks, but the teacher trainings and classes were all taught by past foreign students. For me, personally, I went to India to experience practicing authentic yoga, in the birth place of yoga, not with someone who did their training a year prior. That isn't authentic to me.
The mold issue was addressed immediately. I also never had hot water my entire stay and that was unable to be fixed. And the ashram was full so I didn't have the option to move unless I wanted to share a room with a stranger. No thanks.
My experience was accurate and is verifiable. As I shared, I have a right to share my experience (isn't that what Trustpilot is for?) and to see a defensive response to someone's feedback, clarifies all the other feedback you see on this site. I know for sure I was not the only person who felt this same way during my time there. But this feedback is my experience.

Best Yoga Training Center.

I was at Sattva Yoga Academy, and I completed my 200-hour training. My Experience was amazing. Anandji, who is the Master Teacher he is amazing. He knows all the methods, techniques, and I have learnt so much from him and all the teachers - Michael, Karen, Lisa, Saraswati, Patricia, Allegra, and all other teachers are very cooperative, and they will accommodate your requests and teach you very nicely, moreover, they have regular classes on their website, which is fantastic, i saw some negative reviews too, but i think they are from competitors to bring the good brand down, My experience with entire Sattva team was amazing, I am happy to see that how this is managed, from my flight to retreat and again back to airport i felt that i am in safe hands, first i was wondering how they are managing but after visiting Sattva, i realised that this is the best training center.

I would highly recommend a visit to Sattva and you will see the difference.

I will be back again, Sattva :)

Thank you for helping me and upgrading my Yoga Skills and giving me the best experience.

All the best :)

Loved my time there, loved the teachers, and consider Anandji to be an amazing teacher. The accommodation was great, the food too, and the teacher training was one of the best ones I ever got. Truly amazing, and can’t wait to return for the master training

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I…

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I signed up for the 200-hour YTT at Sattva. I’d been practicing yoga for a few years, mostly on and off, but something inside me was craving a deeper experience. I wanted to understand more than just the poses — I wanted to reconnect with myself.

Sattva gave me that and more. It wasn’t always easy — there were moments when I felt totally out of my comfort zone — but looking back, those were the parts that helped me grow the most.

The teachers were real — they cared, and you could feel that. The community became like a family, even though we were all from different countries and backgrounds. And the place… being in Rishikesh, surrounded by the mountains, it just felt sacred.

This wasn’t just a training for me. It was a turning point. I don’t say that lightly.

I would give -10 if I could

Where do I start?
Did anyone say cult? Well it seems to be another one of these Ashram/spiritual/give me your money type cult.

The food was just okay, and the accommodation wasn't much better.

As for the so-called "guru," I wouldn't label him as such. His talks were nothing more than anything you find online, no profound wisdom there. He seemed to rely on the old sales trick of inserting the word "YES" every couple of sentences to manipulate your thinking into a positive state. Did anyone else say HUGE ego? The way he looks down on everyone is a clear indication of what you are dealing with.

Honestly, it's disheartening to see people fall for this kind of business. When spirituality is mixed with business, it feels like you're scraping the bottom of the barrel. It's reminiscent of past "gurus" who turned out to be shams, exploiting people's vulnerability for sex and profit. Their promises of enlightenment often masked a deeper agenda of manipulation and financial gain.

It's truly sad to see how easily people can be misled by such charlatans.
