I have been working with this platform for my undergraduate-level math and I am really happy with the results. The admins are responsive, polite, and very patient as I could not decide on the type of class I was looking for. They changed the syllabus and the schedule multiple times to meet my needs. Please stay away from this platform. We have a couple of tutors and they are overworked and fall asleep during their 1:1 classes. Give a problem and then dose off. Not professional.
Try emailing them at info at Russianmathtutors.com which is the email they use for customer support and it bounces back. Oh, I also tried scheduling a zoom meeting with customer support and guess what happens… no one lets you in and you are kept waiting. This platform needs to be reported to BBB for ripping Americans off.
Someone from Russian Math Tutors called me to let me know that he will pay $100 to remove my review here.
Contrary to what the customer service rep is saying in his response to my review, the tutor was still in assessment mode after 6 hours of classes. Also my son was not challenged with routine problems.

In response to the customer's allegations, we would like to clarify that the customer's claims are not truthful. After completing four 2-hour lessons with our top tutor, Davit, who has successfully guided numerous students to the IMO level and trained national teams, it became apparent that the student may have found the pressure and responsibility associated with the Olympiad test challenging. Rather than acknowledging this, the customer chose to attribute the issue to the teacher falling asleep.
To ensure full transparency, we provided the client with access to all lesson videos, showcasing the teacher's active participation. Notably, the reviewer omitted any mention of these videos in their review, which would have served as evidence supporting their claims had they viewed them. This underscores the importance of considering all available information before forming conclusions.
Despite promptly refunding the customer for the lessons not taken, we went above and beyond by offering an additional $100 refund. Regrettably, the customer misrepresented this gesture in their review, implying an attempt at bribery.
The customer also claimed to be a highly successful businessman. However, the motivations behind dedicating time to writing numerous negative reviews to harm another business remain unclear. We remain committed to our students' success and delivering exceptional service, and we appreciate the understanding of those who recognize our dedication.
Furthermore, it's worth noting that despite the reported issues, the customer has chosen to continue their lessons with another tutor from our service. This decision suggests a level of satisfaction with our overall service, as they have opted to engage with an alternative instructor. We take pride in offering a diverse range of qualified tutors, and we remain dedicated to ensuring our students receive the highest quality education and support. If there are any specific concerns or areas for improvement, we encourage open communication to address them promptly and enhance the overall learning experience.

Great platform, some room for improvement on quality control.

Now that 100% of what we paid has been refunded I am updating my review. At the time of the initial review we didn’t not know whether we would receive the money or not. The $-amount is low, and meaningless. This was a matter of principle, after we had spent so much time finding alternatives for the cancelled lessons, and raising hell to have our money returned.
We went beyond what can be expected of a paying customer to accommodate last minute re-schedulings, and cancellations by the teacher. We have no way to verify whether the teacher‘s cancellations were justified, or not. The apologies provided by the teacher boiled down to the fact that the teacher was not in control of her personal schedule due to other (unforeseen?) obligations that, in her judgement had higher priorities than our scheduled lessons.
This is no fault of the Russian Math Tutors platform. It is a great platform. I love it.
Based on my own experience as an investor I am aware of the „quality control“ issues all internet platforms face that strive to match „buyers and sellers“ and make a commission of services the platform provides to „buyers and sellers“. Implanting better quality control has its challenges and it is expensive.
So what about my rating?
The platform Russian Math Tutors deserves 5 Stars.
Our unfortunate experience with last minute cancellations by a teacher (independent contractor) are basically no fault of the platform. However, Russian Math Tutors could/should have policies in place that prevent last minute cancellations from happening, or to mitigate the negative effects on customer experience.
Even though our first experience with the platform was tainted by cancellations by the teacher I am hopeful that Russian Math Tutors will eventually improve its quality control. Until then, in my opinion a blended 3 star rating (platform 5 stars, teacher 1 star) is justified. I award an additional star to the platform for the efficiency our case was handled, and resolved to our satisfaction. So that adds up to 4 stars over all.

Unreliable, arrogant, dishonest
We had selected a teacher we liked for our daughter.
We funded our wallet with cash, and prepaid for lessons we scheduled. The way the Russian Math Tutors system works is that teachers show online in a calendar when they are available for lessons. Clients select a time slot that works for them. The teacher confirms. At the time of the lesson teacher and student meet online.
Unfortunately our teacher canceled her confirmed lesson three times in a row. Each time briefly before each lesson was scheduled to commence.
We asked the Russian Math Tutors to refund the money. Initially they refused. Then they said they will only refund 80% of what we had paid (for a lot of time wasted, and aggravation incurred). Eventually Russian Math Tutors told us that they had refunded us the money.
So far that has been proven not to be true - a lie!
Based on our experience this is a money grab, some would call it stealing.
You pay for lessons, the lessons are canceled, and they keep the money.

I am happy to inform you that we have carefully considered your request to implement a policy for mitigating last-minute cancellations and we have deployed, on our platform, a new tutor ranking algorithm that takes this into account. In the future, if there are any issues raised by a client and it is determined to be the fault of the teacher, the teacher will have some rank points subtracted from their overall score. This score is then used to determine the sort order for tutors on the listing.

Luka Macharashvili is my teacher. He has been tutoring me for over a year and has turned my level from average to very high. Coolest math teacher
Saba is hands down the coolest math teacher ever! He somehow makes math feel like an adventure rather than a hard subject. His explanations are crystal clear, and he's always ready to help when I'm stuck on a problem. Thanks to him, I went from barely surviving in math to acing my tests.
