Job scam?

I had the exact same experience as the previous review except I had NO interview.

I saw the job advert on indeed for a customer service role; I applied and was sent a message to apply directly on their website.

After about a week I received an email congratulating me on joining the team. I then received another email asking me to deposit £100 into their business account to send out the work laptop (which would be refundable after 2 months of work).

That’s when I done some research on the company… surprisingly nothing was found.. except this review lol.

I rang the number provided to me in the email (which was the same on their website) to gather additional info and inquire about when a contract would be sent - it didn’t even ring..just went straight to voicemail.
I went back to indeed to view the company history - the job ad was deleted.
After about a week of pondering I decided to revisit the website - it’s now deleted?

Almost fell into their trap so thank you for your review! 👍🏼 Thought I’d share mine too - job hunters beware.. :(

Be cautious of this company hiring staff they ask for £100 upfront but don't provide a contract.

I applied through Indeed for a job with this company. I was contacted by them and asked to apply, after applying I was called a day or so later for a phone "interview".

The interview wasn't really any interview questions just asking previous experience and explaining the job role which was as a customer service work from home role.

The job itself was working for the recruitment agency doing inbound calls for the agency staff working for the agencies clients.

It sounded good, the money was advertised as 24.5k wage with earnings possibly up to 32k if you earned performance based bonuses.

I received an email within a few days saying I had got the job and to provide my bank account number and sort code for wages to be paid to.

I was told in this email I'd receive further emails with more info, the next day I got a long email describing how to set up a VOIP phone. Which I was told in the initial email would be provided by the company along with a laptop.

Although the initial email said this would be sent to me in 3-5 working days, this second email said I would have to pay £100 upfront as a "guarantee" and it would be refunded after 2 months of employment. Also mentioned a test at the end of the 1 week training.

There was no mention in the job advert on Indeed or in the "interview" of this £100 or a test at the end of 1 week training.

I called to enquire about this and was told by the same person who did my "interview" that they charge this £100 due to previous staff members not returning equipment etc. I asked if this £100 could be taken out the first weeks training wage and they said no. They didn't mention anything to put in the reference for the payment until I asked.

I checked the sortcode for the bank details they provided and it's Transferwise which isn't a UK bank.

As the company has little to no information on google such as the address listed not showing the company being there, I was cautious to send them £100. Also the website has jobs listed from 2021 as the most recent listed which is unusual for a recruitment agency to have no jobs listed in the last year.

I had asked on the call if I could be sent an employment contract before sending the £100, they said they'd send that within an hour.

After a few hours went by I emailed to ask them to send a contract and received a reply saying "your contract is being prepared by our accounting team and it will be send to you after they will finish all employment procedures"

I asked why a contract would need to be prepared as companies usually have these ready before hiring staff, especially recruitment agencies. I also asked what employment procedures as I'd already been offered the job it seemed unusual. They didn't reply to this email.

I'd just be careful with this company it seems suspicious to ask staff for £100 upfront but not providing them with an employment contract after offering them a job and start date. Also the fact when searching "recruitment angels" it doesn't come up on google search.
