I bought an Alhambra from Martin…

I bought an Alhambra from Martin because he was quick to respond, honest about the car, and clearly just a nice person. Also reasonably priced. Very thorough and professional operation with all the paperwork ready and done well. Nothing seemed like too much to ask and he was even willing to drive the car 48miles to my house. After driving the car for a couple weeks I noticed oil on the bottom of engine and wondered what could be wrong and if it was covered in his warranty. So I called him and he quickly listened then offered to take the car in to check it out. He kindly lent me a courtesy car to drive home with. He then solved and repaired my issue free of charge, even though it probably wasn't his necessity to do so, but out of good-will.
So if you want to sell your car or buy a new one, I can't recommend Martin enough!

Sold faulty car

Hi, I Bought a 116D car from Martin and after going to several garages for inspection. I have been sold a car with turbo leak, oil sum leak, timing chain rattling and exhaust flexi pipe damage.. Not only was I honest about my car trade in with issues and minor car damage. My old car was in Martin care to go to scrap yard, I had to get a letter from Derbyshire police (speeding ticket). Car went on joy ride and collected two speeding fines in different county. The moral of the story don’t trust anything the car dealers tell you!! Go and get the car inspected ASAP! After being told the repair cost is over £2k to fix, I would strongly advise people to stay away from this garage. When you young and valuable people will really take advantage of your situation. Now I’m out of a car and it’s a ticking time boom..

Avoid this dealer

Purchased a van from Martin with a 3 month warranty, had problems with the indicators and horn not working Martin told me he would have his mechanic have a look . I then received an email stating he had done a bodge job and he wasn’t sure what a mechanic would think of his work referring to the bodge job he had done . I picked the van up to find it the indicators still didn’t work so Martin picked the van up again and told me his mechanic would sort this out , he dropped the van back off and posted the keys with no proof of the work being done : no invoice of any work carried out and I still have the problems with the van and Marin just ignores me. It’s clear he is using a garage in Kettering to put guarantee mot certificates on his vehicles I will report this garage and expose it all across social media in due course . Avoid Raunds cars the warranty don’t mean anything he’s a liability

Disappointing experience

Bought an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, EA60UJY for £2,295 on the agreement that multiple defects were fixed before delivery. Despite making this promise the vehicle was delivered without the work being completed, the only work they did do resulted in additional damage meaning the radio didn't work. They decided they wouldn't get the work done, instead instructing to view YouTube and bodge some jobs by gluing panels. Alfa Romeo estimated up to £500 to complete the work. They then asked for the car retuning, trying to apply fees to do so, in clear contravention of the Consumer Rights Act and appeared keen to avoid their statutory obligations throughout. Martin was initially friendly, but correspondence from Amie confrontational and unprofessional. It took to the point of issuing a county court summons to resolve. I would not recommend based on my experience and have caution about the quality of cars, based on attitude towards repairs.

You'll be happy as long as you have no issues!

I would be giving 5 stars if we had had no problems with the car, all seemed great, even picked up my dad from the station when he went to pick it up. But ran into issues instantly with the car:
Warning light on first drive (injector and glow plugs), ok paid for it and took it up with warranty, injectors go..
Indicator wouldn't cancel, lights aimed way to low, ok small things to fix.

Then the coolant drained out because the fan wasn't attached to anything in the vehicle and rubbed through a hose. The mechanic who found this showed me how the wiring was routed in the same area incorrectly and was trapped in metal parts. He was blown away ghat a car would be sold by anyone like that let alone a dealer and said it was a fire risk.

He looked round and showed me how all the gaps on panels on one side of the vechile weren't parallel and the back door was a slightly different colour indicating a bump where the fan is (or should be) connected. Small things that weren't a visual problem but told a story of a bump where body work had been fixed well, but not perfect as apparently it never can be, but under the bonnet was a different story.

Anyway I asked for a refund as I was in Cornwall and this was all getting too stressful and the car was not sold fit for purpose. Basically raunds never considered this to be the case from the start.

We were accused of lying,
of driving the vechile when we shouldn't have,
Of putting dents in the car when the dents were clearly visible on the sale photos.
They maintained that the vechile was sold how it should have been and the fan must have somehow disconnected its self even though their own photos from before we bought the car showed the wiring in the wrong place and the gap between the fan and the radiator obviously too big.

They accused the AA injector specialist of breaking it while repairing and kept quizing how if it were true other mechanics hadn't seen it (one was a plug in and didnt open bonnet, another just fixes the injector, next found it when coolant went and was looking for that fault but they wouldn't believe anything even though it was all clearly evidenced)

Also accused of driving too far on a temporary repair when I told the AA guy (3rd in 2 weeks) that it needed to get to Leicester from Cornwall (I assumed it would be towed but after meticulous repairing and testing he said I was OK to go but to keep an eye and go straight to the garage)

Rather than do the decent thing they put me out of a Christmas period with a car, a week's work, taking the kids to Christmas things I'd booked, so much stress and eventually hiring a car over about a month, a trip from Cornwall and all to be treated like we were trying to pull a sly one.

It's the worst retail experience of my life by some margin and although I have the car back I can't enjoy it and will sell it on. I'd give one star for a hell of a lot more than this. It was their commitment to denying everything without considering it. It was their knee jerk reaction to everything. We were 100% confident that a legal case would be open and shut but as many people can't we just couldn't be without the money / car for that long so they could just bully us to hang on to the car

So there you are, you'd think it was great if your car is fine, but if you get one that slips through not quite right then expect absolute hell rather than just a refund while they fix it up and resell. They are happy to do anything possible to avoid that.

Hi Jeremy,
I’m saddened that you feel our after care isn’t acceptable as that isn’t the case at all and Actually in your case we went above and beyond to help you. Unfortunately, issues sometimes appear with cars especially when you’re buying something very old with substantial mileage. A fault does not mean a car is unfit for purpose and if we are liable to pay for or fix a fault we absolutely will, and we absolutely did! Your experience was made difficult by differing stories from yourself and your father, conflicting emails, lack of receipts and information to the warranty company, the continuing of driving the vehicle when you were told immediately on fault not to, and the distance you lived from our garage. Your account above doesn’t tally with the emails we have or the actual situation so I have no other response them. You let us know that a red engine light came on the dash and you didn’t stop driving it. The next day a conflicting email said it was amber. At this point we needed to establish if you had caused damage to the car by not stopping which we immediately told you to. The following emails and calls we received were inconsistent and confusing. You weren’t accused of lying, however, we only have your emails to go on and they showed inconsistencies at every point. No receipts, no evidence of faults and reluctance to supply this. Your car developed this fault at Christmas and your situation was made difficult by the garages being closed for the holidays. Unfortunately, the majority of your experience we can’t be held responsible for. It was a series of events one after another that we cannot control from hundreds of miles away. The facts are, that once you eventually brought the car back to us, the faults were fixed extremely quickly and the car was ready for you to take away. Which would have happened a month or so earlier had you brought the car back to us but you chose not to. Had you stopped driving the car like asked, used the AA recovery that you are supplied with for free to bring the vehicle back to us, the faults would have been fixed ASAP and your situation would have been different. Therefore, your experience would have been different. We work extremely hard here to help our customers, but sometimes it is impossible to creat a good experience when a customer has unrealistic expectations. The car was fit for purpose, remains fit for purpose, was more than reasonably priced (under value at the time) and further reduced for you. We cannot make an old car new and I think a new car is what you were after sadly which this purchase was never going to satisfy.

Worth more than 10 stars

Quite honestly the service we got from Martin was absolutely beyond incredible and I don't have the words to describe how professional, compassionate, knowledgeable and all round great person to represent this company. He stayed open late so we can view a car, answered all our questions and just did everything in his power so my partner and I can find our first ever car. Absolutely thank you and honestly cannot recommend him more.

A brilliant place to buy a car.

What a really pleasurable experience to buying a car, so nice to deal with someone who wants to be really helpful with honest accurate descriptions of the cars and gives you as much time as you want to look over, drive and make your mind up.
So glad we made the 160 mile round trip to see the car and then really appreciated the offer from Martin to collect me from the Station when I went back to collect it. Highly recommended.
