Favors The Professor...And Not For Good

My professor was creating a toxic class environment, and I wanted to post publibly to warn people. I normally don't want to post reviews at all, but my experience was so awful that I had to.

According to their guidelines, you cannot "claim that the professor is biased for or against students." So, what if the professor IS doing that? That creates a power imbalance between professor and student, in favor of the professor. And the student can't report that? It refused to post my review because it didn't "meet the guidelines," even though I did not claim or imply biased treatment. I had to shorten my review down to "toxic environment, had to walk on eggshells around him," just so it would post. And who knows if they'll actually post or show it?

And why does that site have a character limit of 350? That's nowhere near enough to explain the situation and give proper context.

I am a professor

I am a professor. There are other professors that I know for a fact not only write their own positive reviews, but they also get their own bad reviews removed. They also leave bad reviews for teachers they don’t like. There should be a serious notification. I’m going to be telling everyone I teach about how deceptive they are. They won’t remove my false reviews and have NO customer service, but they will allow people to flag and remove my reviews for no reason and let others keep false reviews. A JOKE of a website.

Your professors are not restaurants

This is the worst platform - why do we need to rate our educators like restaurants on Yelp. Part of learning is to deal w/ different circumstances. And if there are real behavioral problems w/ the instructors, there are many avenue to pursue fair treatments. Try the dept chair, to start. All the negative comments come from students who don't themselves fulfill their responsibilities, as simple as showing up, or read the required materials. But the greatest flaw of this platform, is that they do not screen the comments against their own terms of use and guidelines at all, and there's no response allowed from the professors - unlike Yelp. Then we can get an equal opportunity to judge for ourselves if the claim is valid or just someone venting. Until there is a RateMyStudent, platforms like this does not help w/ educating our next generations.

Not posting my review

Not posting my review. I get it people spam reviews or use fake accounts but when im posting an actual review I expect it to show up. Having time to leave a review for a professor and now having it show up is horrible. This website needs to be fixed ASAP

Had multiple reviews I posted flagged and removed just because it was negative

I've had multiple truthful reviews taken down repeatedly about my classroom experience; now without so much as a notice let alone an explanation. Nothing profane, just hard truth, and for some reason. For example, I was the only one who left a negative review while meeting all the guideline policies. But, it still got taken down, while a 5-star review that was flagged was NOT taken down even though theirs did not follow guideline policy and contained contents that were discriminatory.

I wish this site had more reviews of…

I wish this site had more reviews of professors, but it is still better then having nothing at all. We pay a lot of money for a tuition and it would be helpful to learn more about professors. Keep doing this important work!

Rate My Professor Supports Ableist/Sexist/Hateful Teachers

I had a chemistry teacher that was mean as heck. He would make extremely ableist comments about students not being mentally equipped for chemistry. The class was literally basic chemistry. Not rocket science. The problem wasn't the students. It was the teacher. He would teach our chapter and then test us but the tests had questions ten times more complex than what he taught. 75% of his tests were topics he didn't cover at all so of the course the entire class was failing. We confronted him and he belittled the female and ADHD students. Then he belittled the older students. Then he belittled all the students by saying all everyone wants is to be given a good grade and not earn it. He is an awful awful man. We all tried to write our experiences on RateMyProfessor but every single time the website admins would delete our reviews. Even the most factual, non offensive reviews were deleted. And if we asked them why they would claim it broke the website's policy. You aren't allowed to call a teacher a racist/ageist/ableist if they are being like that on this site. You can't say the tests don't match the lectures. You can't say the teacher was mean. What is the point of RateMyProfessor? It's a pointless website that has no teeth or spine. It defends hateful professors and sets students up for failure.

Site for Poor Performers

It's a site for poor performers to get vengeance. They won't remove reviews even when a fake one is posted. They are a very small outfit without proper oversight, just there to sell Doritos and RedBull type of products (via ads) to those with bad grades.

USELESS Website! Rate My Professors is BIASED!

I agree with the other 1 stars commentators in this website regarding about ratemyprofessors.com

List of Problems of Rate My Professors:

1) HIGH Censorship & HIGH LIMITATION of Free Speech. There are CLEARLY a lot of BAD Professors out there & that they need improvement in their teachings & even work ethics too. But ratemyprofessor censored most of them.

2) ratemyprofessors DOES NOT WORK for those who are doing a Master's or PhD Program. Master Students or PhD Students CANNOT use ratemyprofessor to evaluate their thesis/dissertation research advisor (aka. PI, which is a professor). Rate My Professors NEEDS to have this feature for Master & PhD Students. So far, Rate My Professor ONLY works for Undergraduate Students & some Medical Students teaching classes ONLY but NOT for other University things.

3) ratemyprofessor.com seems to be used by lazy incompetent students who dislike their professor & just want to ruin the professor's reputation. Some of the comments seems to also be from the professor's arch enemies or arch rivals who have a toxic thing with the professor (such as could be written by another professor to harm the professor's reputation). It could also be written by the professor him/herself as propaganda that he/she is a good professor.

Overall, useless website. If you're a university student, just take the necessary classes you need. Don't overtake classes that you feel overwhelm. If you encounter a class where you seem to dislike your professor & struggle in his/her class, best way is just drop out of that class. Do NOT rely on the ratings on Rate My Professors, they're MOSTLY USELESS ratings!!!

Censors Bad Reviews

A Speech & Debate professor at Sac City college was receiving a few critical reviews. RMP deleted the negative reviews and only kept the positive ones, giving would-be students a heavily distorted view of this prof.

RMP also allow professors to open multiple accounts so they can pad their profile with good reviews. An Anthropology professor once bragged in class that she has her assistant open multiple accounts to write positive reviews for her.

Students Strike Back

Students can now grade the teachers. Did your professor make the cut? Don't get stuck with a bad apple anymore. Having a bad teacher should be a thing of the past. This site is very helpful to find out if it is worth the money and time to take a class with a specific instructor. Professors are graded on a number of criteria, primarily overall quality of teaching and level of difficulty. In addition you can select three tags as individual options as to whether she/he is heavy on textbooks, requires class participation or is maybe laid back and cool. One major option that was eliminated was the controversial hotness rating. In the past you were able to grade the instructor on attractive appearance. Sad to see it gone but maybe it's for the best.

Heavy censorship and bias

Speaking from experience, rate my professors DOES NOT allow any reviews that are negative in tone. The only reviews they accepted from me were the positive reviews. I had one review removed multiple times. I carefully checked over their guidelines and didn’t violate any of them. When I reached out to customer service about why it had been removed they took a very defensive tone. They told me that they didn’t have to tell me why it was removed unless they were legally subpoenaed to do so. Really? Is it any wonder as to why they have such poor ratings on Glassdoor? No one wants to work there.

Grade Changer

Ratemyprofessor is a pretty useful website for professor reviews. It's really easy to use, and you can add professors to review if they're not there already. It's also pretty accurate for the most part. The only reason I rated 4 stars was because they took down a negative review I posted about a terrible professor. I'm not sure what the reasoning was, whether they didn't like what I said (although it was free of profanity and anything hateful) or if they made a mistake, but that definitely dropped their reviews one star.
