Avoid at all costs. Renting from this company was one of the most stressful parts of our trip — and that’s saying something. It’s a very small operation with a fleet of old, tired vehicles that have clearly seen better days. Despite their worn-out condition, the owner seems to think these cars are luxury rentals. They’re not even close.

The only thing that seemed to work flawlessly was the GPS tracker — and not for your convenience. The owner used it to monitor our every move. We were followed, questioned, and checked up on constantly. It felt less like renting a car and more like being under surveillance. We’ve never encountered a car hire company that tracks you so obsessively or checks the car daily while you’re still using it.

It became clear very quickly that this company is more interested in catching customers out and squeezing extra money from them than offering a good service. The whole setup feels like a trap — from the attitude, to the condition of the vehicles, to the constant hovering and monitoring.

Also, be wary of the reviews. Almost all of the positive ones seem to come from accounts that have only ever reviewed this car hire company. That alone should raise some serious red flags. 🚩

If you’re hoping for a relaxed, stress-free holiday experience, do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place. There are plenty of legitimate, professional rental companies out there — this is not one of them.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS – Sophisticated Scam Operation

This company operates what I can only describe as a sophisticated scam. They track your every movement via GPS, then show up unannounced at your hotel to repossess the vehicle under the flimsiest of pretences. In our case, they claimed the contract had been breached because we briefly left a tarmac road (something nearly unavoidable in Romania, where over 70% of the roads are unpaved). We were sent to meet someone in a rural location—how else were we supposed to get there?

They also cited leaving the engine running for 45 minutes while a disabled passenger remained inside the vehicle in 40°C heat. They showed up with the contract in hand, pointing to the fine print about road surface restrictions, and then proceeded to point out a barely visible hairline scratch on the vehicle—likely there when we collected it at 2am in the dark.

This is how the scam works:
• They refuse to sell you full insurance.
• They insist on a €300 cash deposit.
• They track you, wait for a so-called “breach,” then reclaim the car and keep your deposit.
• They only refunded the unused rental days after we involved the police, but kept the €300 deposit.

In the end, we paid €400 for just two days of rental, with nothing to show for it but stress and wasted time. The car itself was in poor condition, full of warning lights. In fact, they even told us via message not to worry about the engine warning lights being on permanently. That should’ve been a red flag from the start.

Thankfully, we found a legitimate company—DriveSmart.ro. They delivered a car to our hotel within 30 minutes, provided full insurance, required just a €50 fuel deposit, and offered brand new cars. When we returned the car, the deposit was immediately refunded with zero issues.

Learn from our experience: stay well clear of this operation and choose a reputable company instead.
