Excellent customer service and the ice…
Excellent customer service and the ice machine worked a treat following a full knee replacement, would happily recommend.

Excellent customer service and the ice machine worked a treat following a full knee replacement, would happily recommend.
The good: my wife had a knee replacement in late January 2025. The machine does what it says: cooling with compression. You can tune the programs, to adjust to the patient's needs. Does this all help? That's for medical trials to say. But it does what it says in the brochure. She thought it helped, but this is obviously no double-blind trial.
The medium: The machine demands ice. Ceaselessly. The patient needs a full-time assistant (spouse or partner) to keep exchanging and re-freezing ice-packs. Including twice in the night. Make no mistake. This is a serious commitment for patient and partner. Without plenty of freezer space you can't cope. Moreover, the ice-packs start to leak. You need to trim out the leaking cells and get more ice-packs. I would recommend doubling up on what Physiolab supply as standard, if you are treating for more than a month.
The poor: Our machine failed on a Thursday evening. Kaput. Fuses okay, PSU okay, just dead machine. Physiolab has zero out-of-hours support. No response till Friday morning in office hours. No replacement delivery available until Monday. Patient in pain and unhappy. I drove the four hour round trip to their premises to pick up a replacement before they closed for the weekend. Not best pleased. So I think the total lack of out-of-hours support is, um, "disappointing".
I had Bilatetal partial knee replacements and I used the Cryotherapy machine as an in-patient. It is simple to use, just fill the reservoir with ice ( or freeze water in plastic trays) and top up with water. You can customise the time, temp, pressure if you want. The sleeve fits well and inflates and deflates often. Great for pain relief and reducing swelling. It’s quick and efficient to use. I’ve now hired it for continuous use at home too. Minimum 4 week hire but can extend week by week. Water frozen in plastic trays works just as well as ice cubes…Well worth it
Ordered a machine following a relative's surgery and on surgeon and physio advice. Very smooth process, super helpful in explaining best approach when the surgery changed date at the last minute, in fact everyone I've spoken to has been straightforward, chatty and helpful. They use DPD to deliver which is the best courier around here with the most reliable app. The machine itself clearly helps rehabilitation a lot, you can extend booking by a week at a time after the first month.
You need space in your freezer to keep at least two sets of ice (at least half a freezer drawer)... Very glad service is available.
I am week 5 following a partial knee replacement. My surgeon recommended the Physiolab S1 to use at home. The company were extremely helpful, efficient and the rental and delivery process was pain free. I felt the cold compression was hugely helpful for pain relief, it was comforting and reduced swelling. I would highly recommend this system. I feel it has speeded my recovery and am now ready to return it.
I should have listened to the surgeon and hospital staff.
After a total hip replacement, the kit was fantastic in hospital. It felt good and kept me busy.
So, while still under the influence of heavy drugs I placed an order for rental, having read that changing my mind would be fine.
When I got home, I did some research and concluded that icing my hip was going to make little difference to my recovery (I'm 10 weeks post surgery and back to swimming a mile, cycling 20 miles etc).
The company wanted to charge for the return. It took a lot of effort, escalation etc to dispute the unreasonable costs but I did succeed in the end.
Save yourself the effort. Think carefully before you place an order!
I used physiolab following 2 knee surgeries including ACL reconstruction and I cannot fault the product or the customer service. The product is simple to use, and highly effective at reducing pain and swelling. The hire of the machine was an easy process, with pickup arranged by courier and no issues. I can highly recommend to anyone who is serious about a speedy, and pain free recovery after major injury or surgery.
