Photo restoration

This gentleman came to give a talk to our local history society which everyone enjoyed so when I was given custody of some old Victorian family photos that had been edged in masking tape by a well meaning Aunt, I decided that removing it from one in particular was worthwhile and that he was the man for the job. I also wanted him to try & remove the Christmas tinsel decorations from one of our wedding photos for our 50th Wedding Anniversary this year. For 50 years my new husband had worn his “hat” of a tinsel covered lampshade without complaint. The restorer took great interest in the old family photo I was concerned to restore and explained what he would be able to do & how long it would take very clearly. He remarked that it was a particularly interesting one for him as it had been very much “touched up” by the original photographer as enlargements of this size would be lacking in detail at that time so it would have been an expensive print.
He experimented on another less valued print and carefully removed the tape revealing the shoulders & arms of two of the young girls in the photo. He restored any missing detail digitally and had copies made for me. The 50 year old wedding photo has now lost my husbands “hat” and attached tinsel garland and is fit to be displayed at our Anniversary celebrations later this year!
My only disappointment was that the photographer who made the prints of my sepia photo when my restorer sent them away for printing printed them in black and white by mistake. If you want a sepia print you must specify this at the outset to be fair to your restorer. This would save confusion for all.
