Philips Perfect Elite Steam Generator Iron
I purchased a Philips PerfectCare Elite Steam Generator iron through Amazon in late 2024.
Almost from the outset, the iron produced brown, dirty water. I continued using it for a period, but in January this year I returned it to Philips for repair. It was subsequently returned to me as “fixed”; however, although the water was no longer discoloured, the iron continued to spit.
I contacted Philips again and was asked for a specific reference number, which I was unable to provide as the return had been arranged via Amazon. On that occasion, the customer service representative was helpful and able to locate the repair details through alternative means.
I was then taken through a series of troubleshooting steps, including resetting the steam generator. When I queried why this had not been carried out as part of the repair, I was informed that limescale may still remain depending on the work undertaken by the service centre. This was concerning, as I would expect a repaired product to be returned in full working order. Unfortunately, after completing these steps, the issue persisted.
Earlier this month, I contacted Philips again. I was once more asked for the same reference number, but this time the representative was unable to assist without it and showed little interest in the history of the issue. When I asked what would happen if the iron were returned and still not repaired, I was told that I would need to contact Philips again so the case could be escalated.
Given how essential this reference number is for linking the iron’s history—rather than the model number or my address—I would have expected clear guidance on how to locate it. Instead, I had to ask twice.
I am disappointed that the iron does not appear to have been properly tested before being returned to me. I am also dissatisfied with the poor standard and inconsistency of customer service. Most importantly, I am concerned that I am now stuck in a cycle where the product is neither effectively repaired nor replaced.
