I adopted a dog from this site 17 years…

I adopted a dog from this site 17 years ago. I just had to put her down a couple of months ago. If I had made this review then, it would have been 5 stars. I went to a foster family to meet her. I don't even recognize this site now. HUGELY disappointing. I'll check my local rescues. Not interested in puppy mills. Shame on you.

Terrible organization!!

Terrible organization!!! We were declined adoption of a puppy because we didn't have our indoor 16-year old blind and toothless Yorkie vaccinated up to the very end. They're really not a rescue organization anyway. They're "for profit" organization but masquerade as a virtuous one. We're going to a private breeder and will train and care for our dog as WE see fit. We don't want or need to be micromanaged by a third party anyway.

They need to really check their rescue…

They need to really check their rescue people. We wanted to adopt from Barbie Ferro in NJ and East Texas. She brought us 2 very skinny puppies with worms and wouldn't let us bring them to the vet. Then took them from us over a month later under false pretence. At that point, we had already dewormed them and they both were an awesome weight. They weren't the amasiated puppies we had gotten in the beginning. We also had them trained to go outside, walk on a leash and sit & stay. She is discussing and shouldn't be rescuing any animals. She admitted to my husband and I that she usually forgot to feed them or only fed them once a day. Discussing!

If I could give 0 stars I would.

Wanted a cat one day, so I decided to go on Petfinder. Saw a beautiful cat that would’ve be perfect for our family. I messaged them about the cat only to never hear back from them at all. This was 3 weeks ago.
I adopted from them before which was not a good idea, the cat they gave me before was suppose to be be good around kids, It
kept attacking my kids, they would be laying down he would come over and scratch them. He scratched my oldest son ear so bad it wouldn’t stop bleeding. He was just laying down watching tv not even paying attention to the cat.
I messaged them about the incident and they said he had a past issue of attacking other kids. They failed to tell me that the day I adopted him.
Years later I thought I would give them another try, they failed me again. I wouldn’t recommend them.
Instead we went to our local shelter and adopted a beautiful kid friendly cat. She’s perfect family cat.
Again I don’t recommend petfinder at all!!!

Planned Pethood, Happy Days Dogs & Cats

Agencies on Petfiner do not adopt to senior citizens. After submitting several applications, filing out numerous questionnaires, and answering every questions they ask, it is clear they don't adopt healthy dogs to senior citizens.

I agree there are many senior dogs needing placement, but not getting/adopting a similar dog to what you have had in the past is a waste of time on Petfinder. Purely the agencies discrimination against senior citizen adoptions. Even if the person wanting to adopt has ALWAYS had large dogs like; Labs, Golden Retrievers, and our etc.

I agree with numerous postings that Petfinder's MI Aagencies are a waste of time if you are a senior citizen. And, I am sure there are numerous other types disciminations occurring with these agencies.

Racism Takes Center Stage With Pet Adoptions

The one star rating of this review is not directed at Petfinder I rate Petfinder five stars for their excellent work in connecting people to the Adoption Agency that have the pet of their choice.

However, it is the adoption agency that fails here.
On March 25, 2024 I found Petfinder.com because I wanted to adopt a cat . I found a pretty kitten at an adoption agency close to me that advertised on Petfinder. I filled out the application to adopt the kitten I didn't receive any response from the agency , Stray Cat Relief Fund of Philadelphia. I submitted another application to no avail again I never got a response from Stray Cat Relief Fund.

This agency posted an open house on Sunday, April 21, 2024 to meet my new pet on their Facebook page I went to the open house and I met my hopeful new pet, she was adorable . However, I was immediately told you "don't qualify , and to get something else". Upon my persistent request to adopt this kitten I was lied to when I was told that we need to call your Vet. To verify all up to date shots on my other cats. We will call you in a few days.I was also told they would be sending me a video about cats.
I never got a response from Stray Cat Relief Fund. I believe I was the target of racial discrimination when trying to adopt a kitten. I am an African American woman and the volunteers and employees are Caucasians.
THAT'S SAD!

Very strange organization.

Looked up another reviews and decided to give one for Harrisburg PA. I choose the cat and everyone from family decided we would love to adopt him. Followed the required application etc, and received a call and emai from Jennifer Constance. She informed that my application is in prosess and request to wait.... Okay. 8 days later I am emailing her back about what is going on. She replied right back my boy has been just adopted!
These people not just waisting your time, I am hart broken!!! Theire phone auto reply saying that their foster facilities overwhelmed and they are not excepting new pets!!!!!! Not sure how to follow this situation. Looks they stretching time on purpose with ridiculous questions like I am adopting a child!!!!! And after that still not letting you adopt a pet. Heartbroken!!!!!!

WASTE OF YOUR TIME

If you are looking to rescue a pet, FORGET IT
If you are looking to adopt a dog, BUY A PUPPY.
I lost count of how many dogs I applied for.
Most of the time you do not even get an answer
When you do, they put you through answering a questionnaire that you feel you are adopting a human child.
If you can survive the questionnaire and send it to them, they turn you down without even the courtesy of telling you why.
Actually, one of the pets I applied for is still being showcased online months after I applied and submitted the questionnaire and follow-questions
IT IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF YOUR TIME

What the Heck!…

I applied to a couple of rescues on Petfinder…either I never received a reply from the rescues o received a reply which said if we don’t get back to you within a week you were not a good fit…I applied for an adult or senior toy poodle …I have had toy poodles my entire life and my fur babies all lived long beautiful lives…my last toy poodle , Jack, was almost 18 yrs old and died of kidney disease…I applied 2 times and was turned down each time… only after I inquired and then received one answer out of the two by email…what the heck…oh and I’m retired, home all day and have a fenced yard….ridiculous rescues…seems like they don’t want to let the poor dogs go and like no one is good enough…I still see the same dogs up for adoption after a month….

Petfinder in Columbus Ohio

Petfinder in Columbus Ohio. Chatty Cathy specifically. My wife went through the interview process, then drove 2 hour to visit the kitty. The facilitator (Mirna) treated her like crap. Way to intrusive. But my wife answered all her questions because we really wanted another cat. We just lost ours after 15 years. These type of people are not looking out for the best interest of these animals. Many great homes are being denied or alienated because of their process. Stay away from this organization.

Trying to adopted a you cat

Trying to get information about adopting. And they want your life history and then you can't even log on to their site or make an account. You would you think they would make it a little bit easier. we have cats and my I daughter wants a new cat for herself and it is a really dig chore to even sign up to get info. Wath a shame. These animals need a home and you would think you are adopting a new born. That if you even can long on to the site to ask questions.

SCAMMERS

SCAMMERS! I contacted Petfinders since I was interested in two dogs (Milo & Chevy) they advertised. I went to see the dogs, at the groomers house, and had to wait for Janet the person in charge of the adoption. I waited for almost two hours for Janet to arrive. She told me that the dogs were available and she would bring me the application for adoption to my house the next day. Janet never arrived and when I called her she indicated that she was at the Vet getting the dogs vacintated and would call me back which she never did. I called back later that night and she told me that she was still at the Vet and would call be back in a harsh tone. I called and texted the 772 245-0444 which is the number on their website inquiring about the dogs and they have not returned my calls either. I saw these same dogs on another website. Be aware that something is very wrong with this company.

Very poor Pet Adoption Site

I think this site goes too far as far as pet adoption sites are concerned. You have to give them way too much personal and pet history. A potential agency may contact you and give you the riot act saying that don't have any idea how to take care of your animals when you have had animals over 30 years. Plus they give vague information on the shelters. I also believe that some of the shelters, don't care for the animals properely, based on my personal experience with this site. I may have to report one of these shelters to animal control for neglect of an animal.

Fed up with "rescues"

Petfinder, and other "rescue" sites ask for ridiculous information to adopt a dog, do they think people willing to mistreat a pet would pay $450. They called my vet, of 28 years, and commented how my dog is not up on his vaccines. He is, he does not get unnecessary "boosters" every year. The last straw was asking if I was divorced or single and could I prove that I owned my home. I have found a puppy, probably not from a great source, who needs a home also, probably the same place they get theirs before they clean them up and charge $450. In the end these "rescues" are making the perfect the enemy of the good and the animals still suffer.

Not responsive - Unfair to the animals

I was/am very interested in adopting an older bird. Petfinder put time restraints on when they can evaluate and how many applications they process a month which I think is the first 3-5 applications. There was a November 2023 to January 15 2024 wait before they would even look at your initial application. It is 1-27-24 and I still did not receive a response from them. I am looking to adopt an older bird, which clearly shows I am not a breeder, or trying to resell a bird, but a person who just wants to give a bird a good home. I do not believe this is fair to people who surrender their birds to them, only to have them hoarded and not be given a forever home.

You cannot get live operator on the…

You cannot get alive operator on the phone. They never respond to their emails. They give a very hard time to the non profits, so they can sign up and list their pets. They do not check out the people who register for accounts. Someone contacted us through them that had a fake name. So my idea is they should do better. Checking for the people who are registering to get pets. I am a nonprofit and I have not had anything good to say about this company since i've been dealing with them . Would I recommend them definitely not. The customer service not none.
So I feel like Writing a review is the only way to make my issues heard. But I think they can do better. No I don't I think across-the-board this company. It might have been meant for something great, but their service is horrible. They don't help the people who were registered. They don't check out the people who are registering to get pets. Make sure they're real people..

Petfinder is a waste of time

Petfinder is a waste of time. No responses from shelters after taking the time to apply to each one individually. Plus, the shelters don't keep their information updated on a regular basis. You find an ideal pet only to find that they've already been adopted. Unfortunately, I will be shelling out cash to a breeder who is available to answer my questions and can confirm that the cat or kitten is still available. I can also choose a cat that is less likely to be purchased because it is retired or unsuitable to breed.

Love Petfinder

Both my wonderful dogs (past and present) found me and I them on Petfinder. People complaining may not understand how the site works. It puts you in touch with rescues and how those rescues operate is up to the rescue. Petfinder is not evaluating you as a pet parent, the rescues are. I am grateful for Petfinder and have many friends who’ve also found their wonderful animal companions there!
