Good plants, but calculator suggests too many

The plants were delivered as ordered. However, they were stacked horizontally in a BIG cardboard box, meaning that the plants at the bottom were squished.
Also, calculate the number of plants yourself instead of using the calculator provided, it suggests way too many plants. For privets, the suggestion was 6 per metre, and in reality you cannot even fit this many in a metre even if you push them together. So we had about 30% extra that we had no use for.
