Dispute over cancellation and fees

My daughter cancelled a floristry course booking with Penelope’s Flowers within the 14-day cooling-off period due to being unwell.

Despite this, she was told she was still required to pay the full course fee, a further £490 after the £110 she had already paid. We requested a detailed breakdown of any actual costs incurred specifically as a result of the booking, but no evidence has been provided.

The course proceeded as scheduled and appeared to have been largely booked prior to my daughter’s reservation. On that basis, we disputed the claim for the full amount and are currently seeking to resolve the matter. She has now received a formal ‘Letter before Claim’ requesting the full amount in 14 days or they will issue proceedings with the County Court.

This experience has been concerning, and I would strongly advise others to read the terms carefully and fully understand the cancellation policy before committing.
