PawProtect - Incompetent & Unreliable!

This is the most disorganized, incompetent company I have ever dealt with. They constantly give wrong or incomplete information, conveniently leaving out critical details. Then you have to call back, wait on hold forever, speak to a different agent or supervisor (whom you’ll likely never speak to again), and try to get the correct information.

They'll cover for each other with ridiculous excuses, say they don't know why they made (another) mistake, or even say nothing at all to where you think they are no longer on the line. Plus, watch out because they will process completely wrong amounts that don't even match the claims and blame it on AI and their "system."

They don’t care about clarity or doing a good job. It's in their best interest if you miss deadlines or fail to provide something they didn’t request, even after marking your claim “approved” and “complete.” Yes, they really do that. And they can take up to 3 weeks to process even the most basic claim, while other companies process most within 48 hours to a few days!

Bottom line: Don’t trust them. My experiences were solely for basic wellness—obviously covered charges—and it was still a nightmare and huge waste of time, with those charges being denied, and then having to go back and forth to get the problem corrected.I can’t imagine dealing with them for anything serious. They would likely deny claims based on imaginary pre-existing conditions, as they’ve done to many others.

I honestly don’t know how they’re still in business and can’t wait to switch. All they do is waste my time and add stress and frustration. I sincerely regret choosing them, but like many others, I was lured by their bait-and-switch $2k line of credit back in 2023, which had been slashed from $5k and then was eliminated entirely shortly after.

They’re truly awful. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone because the animals suffer in the end. Denying critical care with pathetic excuses is disgusting. They don’t care about pets—it’s all about money. And they will drastically increase your premium each year - even if you've never filed a single insurance claim. So you'll pay their very high rates for years and then risk having to pay all your vet bills as well.

Anyone with a bad experience should report them to every regulating organization and leave reviews everywhere online. Conveniently, they don't have Google Reviews, like the other insurance companies. I hope they go out of business. They fall far short of other pet insurance companies, and their 2.9-star rating here—compared to 4.8–4.9 stars for others—says it all. Read the reviews online and see for yourself.

I will update my review after and if I…

I will update my review after and if I actually get a response from PawProtect.

I have a new puppy. He hasn’t needed the vet yet. He is due for vaccines Friday. I have only had him 2.5 weeks.

They are harassing me for a vet record going back to January, before he was alive.

I responded to the first email last week that he a brand new dog, he does not have vet records yet, his first appointment for booster is Friday the 15th.

The didn’t respond and sent another email requesting the same.

After reading reviews about them denying claims for technicalities like this, I will be cancelling today if I do not get written confirmation he is covered.

I paid a higher rate for this policy due to the payment at the vet point option. I will go to PetsBest which is a better rate without the immediate payout option, if I think PawProtect is going to yank my chain the first time I need them.

They lie about what is covered

They lie about what is covered, none of the prescriptions i got were covered even though i opted to pay extra to make sure they are. No exams are covered unless a wellness program is added which is not an option when you sign up for coverage nor is it explained until you a claim and are denied for not having it. Dont recommend this for any pet parent

When my dog

When my dog, Martha, got hit by a cyclist and needed emergency surgery on her back leg, Paw Protect came to our rescue. In just one call our bill was paid, within minutes of receiving it from the vet. I am so glad we have our pet insurance with Paw Protect as we would never have been able to cover this cost without it.

I don’t usually leave reviews

I don’t usually leave reviews, but Paw Protect seriously deserves one. I’m 30, I love my dog like she’s family, and vet bills can be a lot. When I had an unexpected visit, I called Paw Protect and they handled my claim while I was still on the phone. No back-and-forth, no waiting forever they just processed it and sent the money straight to my bank account within seconds. It made a stressful situation so much easier. If you're on the fence about pet insurance, this is the one I’d recommend 100%.

I love pawprotect

I love pawprotect! They process small claims within a few days. The larger claims take two weeks. Once a claim is processed they email you and explain what you are getting and why. The adjusters are very nice people. I've been using them for 2 years.

Stay away from Paw Protect

They denied my claim because they just didn't want to pay out. They said my insurance didn't cover my pet surgery when it says that it does in the policy. Do not give them your business. I believe their good ratings online are paid for.

Bait and switch with horrible customer service

Paw Protect advertised a $5000 line of credit to help pay for vet bills up front while waiting for reimbursement; which is why I signed up with them. Then almost a year after being with the company I get an email from them stating they are no longer providing that line of credit to anyone. Great. I then get my renewal notice and the premium for all my animals went up astronomically. So, they take away the feature I signed up for in the first place and the raise rates?

Even before the credit line was discontinued customer service was horrid. It took weeks to get a response back on claims. Attempting to get hold of customer service meant waiting at least 20-30 minutes to speak to an Embrace customer service representative that may or may not be able to help. Overall I would recommend to stay far away from Paw Protect.

Save Yourself

Save your money! This company does everything in it's power to avoid. Loop hole after loop hole. I've waited nearly 2 months for a dental reimbursement, for 4 extractions, they offered just under $5. I have a $100 deductible. This company is a joke. Don't waste your money, you'll be paying them, as well as your vet bills.

I signed up for paw protect pet…

I signed up for paw protect pet insurance for my dog in September 15, 2023. I heard nothing but great reviews about them. This company sucks. Every time I filed a claim it was away denied. There were 7 claims the only one was approved was the wellness. My dog had dental done it was denied, he hurt his foot denied, then his back leg denied and so on. Did not cover any medicine or office visit. You can’t even get anyone on the phone. Except for today when I called to cancel my policy. Customer service representative Joe Delaney was the only one that did what I asked. He canceled my policy, no question asked. He was friendly, courteous and he understood my frustration.. I don’t like the fact that if I’m paying for this and everything in their mind is preexisting condition. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

They are a racket trying to get money and they’re not gonna cover your pet for anything! a total honest to goodness, rip off! a lawsuit should be started for their lying, taking my money every month and lying about what the veterinarian said when I just got off the phone from the vet and they said there was never such a thing ever said about periodontal or alopecia ! shame on you, paw protect shame on you embrace shame, shame, shame !

Claims were paid, but issues with communication and overall value

I want to provide this feedback because I actually did get my claims paid by Paw Protect/Embrace, but still have issues with how this company is being run.

Before signing up with Paw Protect, I did a lot of research and ended up deciding on Paw Protect specifically because of two things: the partnership with Paytient and the dental disease coverage. However, they've now ended their partnership with Paytient after making it a major part of their brand, which feels like a huge bait-and-switch tactic. They also will not actually cover any dental disease despite that being specifically laid out in the policy (which I've read, carefully, multiple times) because every rescue animal comes with periodontal disease needing to be treated, and therefore it's made a permanent pre-existing condition. In reality, if periodontal disease is treated it is a temporary condition, not a permanent one. Therefore, it seems like they do not have a policy of reviewing medical records/claims in good faith.

I did read my policy multiple times and followed it to the letter, and Paw Protect did reimburse me 100% of what I was owed (100% of the claim after my deductible and co-pay). However, their claims process took longer than the stated 30 days due completely to their poor/lack of communication. They never once called or emailed me to tell me they had questions about my claim, and so it just sat around for weeks. Once I finally figured out the issue and resolved it on my own initiative, it took another week for the claims to be reviewed and approved.

I thought I was going with a reputable company by choosing Paw Protect since it's under Embrace, but my guess is that this company will actually not last much longer since they've dropped their biggest draw - Paytient - and seem to be barely functioning as it is. There are many other companies that offer better value for the money.

I am taking this company to court if they do not reimburse me for this next claim I made (my pup got sick). False coverage, STAY FAR FAR AWAY! (for instance, my pup had injured his left leg 20 days into his new policy. No matter what the paperwork from the vet, or the letter he sent to them, PawProtect kept saying the right leg was not covered for another 8 months or so. He injured his left leg, not his right leg. And I never denied the fact his right leg had an issue, but he had surgery on his left leg and they called it a pre-existing issue on the right leg. SCAM SCAM SCAM COMPANY

It's actually a scam..they take your money, don't even look at or read the animals pet history (that they ask for in details.) Then they tell you no its not covered, even tho it SHOULD be!!!! It says in the fine print it's covered. SO now they are telling me oh no, you need to add this and this to you monthly policy? So what have I been paying 50 dollars a month for then? Absolutely nothing. Total scam

They dont like to reimburse/ or Approve claims

I have a policy with them and they are the worse my dog had got scratched in his eye by another dog while playing it was late night when this accident had happened so shortly after I went to sleep but when I woke up I checked on him and his eye was red and had discharge. So I took him to the vet to have it checked and they told me he has entropion which there's only 3 ways a dog could get this condition is hereditary or genetic or trauma to the eye which the trauma from getting scratched in his eye is the cause he's never had any issues with his eyes as all his past exams which he had just had one 3 weeks before this incident and they say his eyes are bright White and alert says he's a healthy dog well when I filed my claim they denied it saying it was an illness which it was not an illness it was an accident and I sent them all his medical history and not one has ever mentioned entropion I appealed it and they still denied it so they basically calling me a liar and they say the vet doesn't mention intold them it was an accident but I have a letter frik tge doctor and she says she remembers me explaining that he got scratched in his eye so I'm about to appeal it again and if they deny it then I'm getting a lawyer and sue them because I'm not going for the bull they trying to pull. I don't like their services at all

Paw Protect does not protect!!!!

Paw Protect does not protect!!!!! They are such a disgraceful excuse of a pet insurance company. I used all my savings for my precious pup to get veterinary treatment because she was suffering multiple medical illnesses at once, meaning frequent visits to the vet. This was agonizing for her and emotionally debilitating for me. Having Paw Protect, I thought that I had a back bone to lean on through these tough circumstances. It felt like my pet and I were alone in a storm. And that’s exactly how Paw Protect left us, eventually. At the beginning, I did my part, I made sure to fill out all the claims and submitted them in a timely manner, as I watched over my pup. However, by the time the claim’s process was over, OVER HALF A YEAR HAD GONE BY. My pup had already passed. While the plans with her cemetery were going on, Paw Protect still had us on the back burner with NO ANSWERS. I had to call them and ask them what was going on. I had to tell them that my baby had passed on and was no longer with me, if there could be some adjustments to the speed of her claim’s process. Nothing. Our final answer though, months after she passed, was rejection of anything and all that time spent was for nothing! They are also the worst at communicating with your veterinarian. They literally send EMAILS to veterinary offices instead of calling for quicker service. They add you in the emails, so you receive them as well. It’s infuriating the way they run their system. It’s like they purposefully want to lengthen the claims process by waiting weeks for your veterinarian to respond, which is exactly what happened. Also, Paw Protect is lazy at doing their job and they tell you to contact your veterinarian to get information, which is also infuriating, because why would I go through the trouble of obtaining insurance for my pet, if they’re not going to meet basic standards and they’re asking me to make it my day job, when I’m going through enough making sure my pet survives? Terrible. I doubt anyone who works for this company meets the appropriate certification standards or has possesses any type of intelligence or empathy either.
