Initially friendly and polite, Stephen came and took what i thought were detailed images of the adjoining wall that would be affected. But as soon as he had been paid he became unhelpful. He was still polite but when i raised any issues, he stated his statutory duty had been fulfilled.
On requesting photos to prove that their is damage due to the works, NONE of the 99 images he took included details of the adjoining brickwork; they mainly were of the floor and other non-connected items. Also included in the photos were a joke 'meme' and a comedy sketch video; perhaps his attempt at humour.

Stephen Hawes acted as the party wall surveyor while my neighbour was having extensive changes made to the house to which we are semi-detached. After the building was complete we found a crack in a wall obscured behind a curtain which we had not noticed previously. However, through the extensive photographs taken by Stephen in his initial survey (including behind curtains!) it was clear that the crack was there before the building work started.

I highly recommend Stephen as both professional and personable.

I expected the Party Wall Award to be "broad brush-stroke" but I am impressed and delighted that instead it turns out to be a clear, intricately-detailed document addressing every concern I expressed to Stephen Hawes. It provides safeguards I did not know existed such as the right to receive the Local Authority`s Building Control "sign-off" report when the works are finished.
The Award stipulates exactly what I and the "Building Owner" next door can do, cannot do and must do.
The work done by the Party Wall Surveyors involved seems to me to be of the highest imaginable professional standard.

Stephen Hawes acted as the party wall surveyor for a recent ground floor extension project. I found him to be good to work with; he gave a good explanation of the process before we took on his services and worked promptly to our timescales so that we could start work on the planned date. He did a good job of offering advice about how the process works while also acting as a neutral party between us and our neighbours. He was easy to get hold of on the phone and always made an effort to respond to emails within 24 hours.

Excellent and very professonal. We would highly recommend. Stephen was very efficient with his work and provided excellent communication in regards to arranging the survey and talking us through the party wall award once delivered. His survey report had a high level of detail about the condition of our neighbours property and picked up all issues no matter how big or small.
