Very poor communication and service relating to a refund.
I booked this hotel in February 2017 for a four night stay the following December through Booking.com. I then cancelled a week later and received the cancellation confirmation. There were no further communications from the hotel, before, during or after my stay in New York. Unusual if they genuinely thought I would be staying there. On all other occasions with other hotelsI have received a welcome email prior to arrival (usually asking if I wish to add a bottle of champagne to the booking). I spent four nights in a different hotel at the beginning of December. When I returned I checked my bank account to find the hotel had taken $387 the day after I returned to the UK. I phoned the hotel accounts department and as requested sent the confirmation of cancellation to Ms Ingrid Weng who acknowledged receipt. I sent several follow up emails to Ms Weng but never had a reply. I then contacted Booking.com who quickly (while I waited on the phone) rang the hotel and seemed to have resolved the issue with the promise that the money would be in my account from Jan 9th. Today I discover they have only reimbursed HALF the money owed to me i.e. $193.50. I think this is a deliberate scheme that relies on people not checking their bank accounts and/or not having the stamina to complain. Once again I have contacted Booking.com who will pursue the money on my behalf. I have also opened a 'disputed transaction' file with the bank. I would strongly advise people to avoid this hotel and ALWAYS check bank statements on return.
