That's a pretty harsh score

I had trouble with a payment and emailed Owl. I thought they had ignored me but they replied straight away and the email didn't show at my end but when I went to check in my sent box there was a reply there. I wrote back and they corrected the issue straight away.

The product is amazing.

Subscription is fairly priced.

There are a lot of reviews here that sounds like people expecting instant results, saying the conversion is taking days and then getting stuck. You really don't need the settings that high and they give you options to make quicker tests anyway. I think some of these settings are maybe meant for commercial grade super computers, not your average gaming PC.

I spent about 3 days messing around with settings to find what works best and now just use the same settings each time. Everything works great on it. The videos look really good and they're pretty fast. My computer isn't some power house either, it's a bit worse than a PS5 and my PC manages fine getting good results.

Many settings for improvement drastically increase process time but only the slightest quality increase. You really can get great results on mid settings. You just need good source material and find what works best.

You can also just go on the website to access your account. I don't get why people are struggling with a simple login.

Only issue I had was contact isn't available through the app, or website but one google search got me the email address I needed to resolve my issue.

I think the score is incredibly harsh tbh. They're not 100% perfect but it's an excellent product and customer service was fine.

As for people complaining about only getting a short video then having to pay for long videos. Well yeah, welcome to the real world. Nice things cost money. What did you expect? I don't have much money and I think the price is fair for what I'm getting.

Owl3D is a wonderful product when it…

Owl3D is a wonderful product when it comes to converting to 3D whether images or videos, but, when converting even very short videos to 3D it is a very, very, very slow process, even a 2-3 minute video takes 17 to 25 HOURS to process. Am I doing something wrong?

the free version will only convert 60 seconds of video, but they dont tell you that until you install it and create an account. Then when you realise its useless, you find it cannot be uninstalled via windows app manager or control panels uninstaller, if you try and delete it manually the files are locked and cant be deleted, if you manage to unlock them with file unlock software it still has riddled your register with registry entries, some of them cant be removed either

NO SUPPORT

It can be wonderful, if you can get it working. There is NO SUPPORT whatsoever. You are on your own. A CUDA error? CUDA trying to access illegal memory? Tough luck. You must debug it yourself, because, there is NO SUPPORT. If there is, they are hiding from me.

Amazing for converting vacation photos and videos

Just bought myself a license and converted about 1500 photos (and a few 3 min. videos). It's amazing. at least 3/4 of them are just perfect, the rest is more than OK. Only 10-20 are not so great. But you can always save a Depth map and fix the effect in Photoshop. All in all a very good app. Love it.

Excellent 3D quality, the kind you expect. You'll need to learn the setting though, that's the tricky part. Convert the same clip over & over w/ different settings, keep tying different combos to find your perfect 3D results. Once you find the perfect Strength / Popout match, keep it & convert away, Love this program.

Deleted EVERY last one of my photos with BARELY a warning. DO NOT trust this company.

Deleted every last one of my cloud photos, back when they offered storage, with BARELY any notice. Actually, who even KNOWS what they did with those photos. Did they keep it all and use it to train other models? God knows what they're doing with them, since they never talk about this.

Hi,

We’re sorry to hear about your experience, but it seems there might be some confusion. The issue you’re referring to is related to a different product—a VR app we discontinued over a year ago. We did send out email notifications asking users to download their assets before the shutdown, and once the service was closed, all photos stored in the cloud were permanently deleted.

Rest assured, we did not use any of those photos for any other purpose, including training models. The current version of Owl3D is a standalone software that runs entirely on your device and does not have a cloud component, so your data stays secure.

If you have any further concerns, feel free to reach out. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for being a part of our community.

Decent 3d conversion software, let down by slow rendering times and lack of preview

Overall a good piece of software, undertaking something that would have been impossible even a few years ago.

Balanced mode works great, a good approximation of 3d in the video - with decent rendering times. Fusion or precision modes however just seem to take too long for me, even on 1 minute test videos I've tried it on. I have a 4070 super and assume this card should be more than enough to handle the calculations.

As a future feature request would it be at all possible to have any sort of preview option in the menu before starting the rendering of the video? Even if it is just one frame, that can be viewed with a vr headset. Just so we don't have to invest 2-3 hours rendering out something with settings that don't quite work with the input video.

Hi John,

Thank you for your detailed review and valuable feedback! We’re glad to hear that you find Owl3D to be a good piece of software and that Balanced mode works well for you.

We understand your concerns about the slower rendering times in Fusion and Precision modes, even with your powerful 4070 Super GPU. Improving speed is at the top of our list, and you can expect Owl3D to become faster and faster in the next few updates.

We’ve also heard your request for a preview option, and we’re happy to let you know that we’re planning to add a way to quickly preview the video with the selected settings. This should help you avoid investing hours in rendering without knowing if the settings are just right.

Thank you for being a part of the Owl3D community and for helping us improve with your insightful suggestions!
