A lovely cosy stay, I loved it!

I received a lovely warm welcome when I arrived late in the evening to the Common Knowledge Centre, the fire was lit, I was given a little tour of the building and everything was explained very well. I received a great recommendation of where to go for an evening meal and of course the bed was very comfortable and the room was warm and cosy, which I appreciated in the wintery weather! :) The best part was the staff - just lovely warm, kind, interesting people who seem to really love what they do. The library of both books and musical instruments and the lovely living room space really added to the atmosphere there. I would absolutely stay there again, and would recommend it to anyone taking part in a course there!

It was one of the most empowering…

It was one of the most empowering experiences of my life! As a woman in my mid-fifties learning to build was not something I had the opportunity to do when I was younger. Now, just having learned the basics, I can talk to a builder, an architect/engineer, and have an intelligent discussion and understand what is possible. And do a lot of the work myself which I am very happy and confident about. I did Build School 1. There was also a really great group of people - from people in their 20s up to their 60s, equally split between men and women. I'll definitely do another course - probably the follow on Build School 2 and the kitchen cabinetry...accommodation was lovely, food excellent.

Well be back.

The bonding among the 'students' was fantastic, and we jointly learned a lot about various building techniques in the company of the tudors, who were both mentors and teachers.
The highest compliment? We'll be back!

Cannot recommend enough. The best investment i made into myself

Build School was the best investment I made into myself. It not only answered all my questions, but more importantly gave me confidence and all the background knowledge required to teach myself the rest. The instructors are incredible not only in their communication skills but also in constructively and objectively communicating their values.
The structure is phenomenal, a great mix of practice and theory, making it useful for pretty much anyone. And they are very determined to constantly evolve and improve their offerings. Common Knowledge really is a social enterprise in the truest sense, as the objective is to aid the greater good.
I haven't felt so empowered and confident in months. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for designing and offering this course.

Inspiration beyond just building

My experience in Build Level 1 in Common Knowledge was excellent from start to finish. I was inspired to think more broadly about what I wanted to achieve with my build. I was given ideas and options that I hadn’t imagined or known about along with an understanding of different methods / their efficiency/ effectiveness and their impact on the environment. I also gained practical shills in the workshops and left with confidence that I could tackle anything. The dynamic in the group was great fun and food was amazing.

Great place to learn and meet like minded people, really worth doing a course or visiting to see and learn about current projects they are working on. Food was delicious, fresh from the garden! Accommodation was comfortable and clean and good value.

Build School at Common Knowledge.

So I have recently taken part in the Build School at Common Knowledge. What an amazing week. I would highly recommend to anyone who is thinking about taking part to just do it. I have gotten so much from it: from gaining a deeper insight into the various aspects of planning a build whilst considering sustainability and our changing climate, putting theory into practice, becoming confident in the use of the tools required to do the job, being surrounded by people with a passion for what they do and a commitment to practicing what they preach, learning together with others and being inspired by their projects, being in the outdoors in such a lovely part of County Clare to finally being nourished with great food in such a lovely environment that is Common Knowledge. Learning and working together is the way forward.
Thank you for such a great week.

Life skills and meeting great people

I have just completed Level 1 Build School. Really thought me valuable life skills. Whether you have a project in mind or just want to try something new this is the place to go. The instructors are second to none and the food served onsite is exceptional. I’m looking forward to getting back down for another course

Block & Brick Laying For Beginners

I completed the block and brick laying course, it was excellent for beginners and those with limited knowledge. Martin, the tutor, engaged really well with all the group who were at different levels of experience and had varying projects in mind. In addition the opportunity to meet and socialise with the people on the other courses at meal time and in the evening added to the experience.
