They are awful. Been retired 6 months. Can't get a Medicare Advantage plan because OPM claims I'm still working. Their phone number, like everyone else says, hangs up automatically.

OPM and NFC are absolutely pathetic

OPM and NFC are absolutely pathetic! I have been on hold for over 2 hours on 2 separate days, with no option to leave a callback number. I have sent emails, and still no reply. How do they think I can pay my insurance premiums if they don't send me my invoice or log-in credentials to log into their system. This is very disturbing for a FEDERAL AGENCY to be conducting business this way. I think Congress needs to look into this. AWFUL!!!

I mailed OPM form 2809 by mail to the address on their letterhead letting them know I was suspending FEHB plan(sponsored by blue cross/blue shield) in favor of Aetna Medicare Advantra Philly Prime(HMO-POS) but instead received a letter stating that I had canceled my enrollment which was a lie. I've received no response from any party other than Aetna saying my enrollment was canceled. Whatgives? What gives? They were unreachable by phone.

OPM is an expensive, useless joke

Both my wife and I are retired... We manage numerous online banking and other online accounts that require various security measures to access - The ONLY one that we have difficulty accessing is opm services online - Their system is a joke and while we have trouble accessing them, hackers apparently have no such problem.

Don't give up

It took 15 months after retirement to get the ex-spouse apportionment and survivor benefits corrected. I did three Congressional inquiries and OPM basically "blew off" the Congressional Office (yes I kept all documentation and emails). I finally contacted Tully & Rinckley and paid $150 for a consultation. They reviewed all my documents, provided guidance on next steps, and when I told OPM I consulted with a law firm and was ready to file a formal complaint with the U.S. Merit System Protection Board, they pushed the case to higher ups who regularly emailed me, got two phone calls to walk me through the calculations and corrections to be made and admitted they made a mistake. I highly recommend contacting Tully & Rinckley if you have a complicated case. One consultation was enough for me to send me in the right direction. They told me to wait until a specific deadline (there is a 15 month and 18 month deadline for certain items), and if I did not get results after that time, I should contact them back to move forward with my case. I did what the law firm told me to do, and I was successful. Hearing that you will take it to the Merit System Protection Board got my case moving after 15 months. I am finally enjoying my government retirement. NO, I do not work for the law firm, I just had a consultation by phone, and they were awesome. You can recoup your lawyer cost but nothing else.

OPM SUCKS--NO ONE IS IN

This has been ongoing since the beginnoing of the year!!!No One answers the phone!!!. Messages left are not returned. I need help with my overseas claims for federal government health insurance. It is with BCBSFEP. Claims are not processed and paid in a reasonable period of time since GeoBlue replaced Gimmy. Prescription claims filed with Care Mark are getting lost or noto processed. OPM does noting. I have emailed the OPM-BCBS go to guy Mr. Hilton and he does not even respond to the emails. It is beginning look like tax payer fraud and collusion.

Recently changed the program without training the boots on ground employees on how to handle retirements. HR and their agencies are ignorant on how to start retirement paperwork. They only refer people to go to ABC website.

Horrible company.

Haven’t been able to get in contact for over 8 months now. I sent an application for refund of funds no response sent back in the mail. I also called multiple times. Each time I was able to speak to someone they dismissed me with no help or answers. Also it is very hard to get someone on the phone. I had to tried so many times. I just received an odd email after not being able to get a response after all these months. Beware these people also have scammers in their system don’t respond to emails they asked me for my bank account information. I responded to the email and received a call 5 min later after stating in the email I was not providing personal information through email. The caller hung up and I didn’t get a chance to respond. But I know it was a scam. They left no voicemail.

OPM Military Beneficiary

I was told by FEGLI that there was no beneficiary on file for my grandfather and to contact OPM. I've been upset since I've been back and forth since February regarding my grandfather life insurance, but the customer service I got from OPM was absurd. I called 4 times but each time there was a voice recording saying to call back. When I finally got passed that, I waited over 30 minutes before someone picked up the phone. I wanted to get the beneficiary information about my grandfather, but the lady was no help and the most she did was sent a package that would be sent to my house in 4 to 6 weeks. I asked about a facility where I can talk to a person to get the information handed to me rather than mailed out and she vaguely threatened me by stating it was a guarded facility. Like, what am I going to do to require that kind of response? Seriously? I just wanted to talk to someone in an office.
I asked for the number for the department with the files and a number for a more managerial person to talk to, and she refused on each occasion. If this wasn't in relation to the Federal Government, anyone who was providing that kind of customer service would have been fired from their job. Now I am worried that I would need legal representation just to do some paperwork because no one else is providing assisting. As far as the beneficiary goes, I'm sure my grandfather had at least one listed because he was the type of person who would have all his ducks in a row. After this incident, I would not be surprised if OPM is the one who messed up the paperwork.

OPM lack of communication, informative, and stink service

I was very upset and frustrated with OPM because I received a letter from OPM that they informed me of an overpayment issue, so they should have me payback. I was confused. Likewise, I attempted to contact and discuss the OPM for 20 minutes. It won't issue solve. They mentioned, That is right, I must go to pay it back. I think there is a problem with the system. Who made the mistake?

Online and telephone service is terrible

Reaching an agent by phone is a frustrating stressful experience. Got continuing voice messages that lines overloaded and to call back later. Online service website is terrible. Especially relating to the form to adjust tax withholding. Terms are confusing and no ability to get clarification or to talk to an agent. When I finally connected to an agent by phone and asked to assistance to complete the tax form. I was told "we usually refer people to the IRS for clarification" . After hours of effort nothing was accomplished!!

Lack of service and response.

I attended a lot of retirement seminars before finally retiring in May 2023. Per OPMs guidance and pamphlets, I was supposed to be placed in interim payment status within 60 days from retiring. However, if you have a divorce decree on file, OPM will not put you in interim pay status, and you will go without pay for at least 6-8 months until they settle the case. Nowhere does OPM ever state this or tell annuitants as to why they are not getting paid. This also means you will continue to pay your BENEFEDS out of pocket for that period of time while receiving no pay. Ensure you have money saved up prior to retiring.

You will also not receive an account password until you are placed in interim pay status, which again has consequences. When open enrollment season starts, you cannot log into your CSA account to make changes. You have to call them and request changes to be made during open enrollment. Needless to say, OPM does not pick up the phone and you have to fill out a form online to get any kind of response.

When you do get your retirement benefit booklet, please check it carefully as OPM does make errors. I found errors in benefits deduction, taxes, and survivor benefits (still working on the last one).

It took two Congressional Inquiries, numerous phone calls, and two emails to the OPM director to get obtain answers from OPM. I finally got back pay in January 2024 after 8 months of waiting and receiving no payments for 8 months.

This agency really needs an overhaul by Congress as it simply is not working.

Opm deserves no stars it is the worst the employees give different answers they don’t do their jobs. In 2013 I got divorced sent in my divorce papers so it should be self plus one they never did the paperwork for over 10 years they have charged me self plus family. Waiting for answers they can’t even get my annuity payments right everything that we have worked hard for an to deal with opm a possibly lose it all is absurd. I know when I worked an I’m sure I speak for others I gave 100% opm doesn’t give a - - - - .

OPM will **** you over

Dear OPM..... My husband's mother passed away in May of 2019. You gave my husband his inheritance. We used that money wisely and all was well. UNTIL..... you decided to wait until early 2023 to tell my husband, "Oh, we screwed up on your inheritance and overpaid you $6700-something, so now YOU have to pay for OUR screw-up, and we will do this and that if you don't pay up!" You, OPM, waited FOUR FECKING YEARS to tell us this!! Waited until all the money was used. Now you're demanding WE pay it back, PLUS INTEREST!! It's bad enough you are making us pay for your mistake, that you refuse to take responsibility for....but then you charge us interest, so that we're paying back MORE than the requested amount?? Wow, can you get any greedier?? YOU made the error, now you're going to try to bleed every cent out of us for it. Do you do that to everyone, or just certain people?

Because of your greediness and lack of concern for anyone or anything, we will be unable to keep up crucial vet appointments for our cats--because we have to pay YOU instead of the vet. Because of YOU, I have to wait and wait for a chance to drive to my home state to see my family and friends. Because of YOU, we have to hold off on medical appointments for the two of us. Because of YOU, we will have to cut down on Christmas gifts for our family and friends. Why? Because we have to keep making payments to YOU. It's YOU who will be ruining our Christmas, so a big fat thanks a e'ffing lot for that! YOU were the ones who made the error, YOU need to take responsibility for it and dismiss the repayments!! But, do you give a ****?
Of course not. You're the government. Classic government, you never want to give money to those who deserve it, but when it comes to people owing you money, you demand it right then and there, and with threats to get it. Shame on you.
I wish you all at OPM the holidays and the life you deserve.

I am a widow trying to receive annuity

I am a widow trying to receive my spouses annuity and have been treated like trash and ignored for 30 days by my own case worker. Spouse was a plant manager for the post office and worked there for 45 years. They require a toxicology which takes 3 months to complete and expect me to keep sending official death certificates at my expense. The people that are trusted with the care of employees families are lazy and insulting, I was told by one phone person how do we know he wasn’t murdered? I explained that’s what a no foul play letter was for then I was told don’t raise your voice to me ma’am.
Then I was classified as a hardship case and it was escalated but they did nothing. Absolutely nothing, how would they feel about not being paid for 4-6 months which is common. No one should ever be treated like that. Especially under such unexpected and horrible circumstances. I was told all of the phone people work from home. If I had a mortgage I would be homeless now. Absolute disgrace.
