My overall experience with the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy on-line course with Open Colleges is not very satisfactory. After completing 10 modules, I decided to exit the course as it did not meet my expectations.
On a positive note, the course is very suitable for an existing worker in the beauty industry who is already working in a salon wanting to improve and upgrade their existing skills with a nationally recognised certificate.
The on-line Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy at Open Colleges is not suitable for someone like myself or anyone else who may be new to the beauty industry.
The assessments are very difficult with a lot of theory and not a lot of guidance. There are no step by step instructional practical beauty videos, for example, how to do a brow tint, or how to apply nail polish on a client. The workplacement component (which is part of the certificate) is too difficult for someone like myself new to the beauty industry. Trying to find a beauty salon willing to take me on as a workplacement student, was extremely challenging and a very negative experience.
I did approach the staff at Skiltrak who were very helpful but SkilTrak was not a guarrantee of finding work placement.
Whilst the online learning platform at Open Colleges is good, and the downloadable manuals (through Openspace) and videos informative, the Workplacement component (including the paperwork) needs improving so that it is easier to follow, including step by step instructions and guidance. Examples of how to complete the workplacement documentation and workplacement assessments through 'mock workplace' videos would have been helpful.
My overall experience with Student Support in general was adequate and I would like to acknowledge, Lee-Gwen, Contact Centre Agent, for their professionalism. Lee-Gwen was positive, helpful and genuinely engaged in assisting me with my query and was empathetic and sincere.
In all honesty, I would not recommend Open Colleges On-line Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy to a person who may be new to the beauty industry, a TAFE course will be better suited with face to face learning and guidance in a campus based working salon.
My review of the on-line Certificate IV in Beauty Therpay, is based on my experience studying with Open Colleges and my review is no way to deter anyone from studying with Open Colleges. I hope I may have provided some insight into the on-line learning experience.

I really enjoyed being able to study during my own hours. The course was flexible but didn’t compromise on quality support throughout the duration of the course.

I was specifically impressed with my assessor, Erika Russell who understood my learning goals and worked with me to achieve those.

Ada was extremely friendly, helpful and informative.

Having Ada Kwok helped me immensely through enrolling and was so encouraging and helpful the entire time! She was amazing.

My first time completing a diploma through Open Colleges was a fantastic experience. The online learning process was simple and easy to navigate, which made studying much less overwhelming. My trainer provided excellent feedback throughout the course and was always approachable and willing to offer assistance whenever needed. Overall, I found the course to be extremely worthwhile and definitely worth the investment I made in completing my diploma.

Studying with open colleges was really good, The web site was easy to understand and view each time I opened it up. Erika was so paitent with all of my questions that I had with the course. Some of the content was a little hard to understand. I was happy with the support and was always updated when Erika was away on leave. She was really responce via email and would get back to me normally within the day with my questions. I would recccomend OC to anyone as the support is really good. A big Thank you To Erika, Who was such a positive support during my distance study with Teaching Aide course.

I just competed a 2-year Diploma In Graphic Design with Open Colleges, I would say I have had great experience with this open learning college, the teacher/trainer was very helpful and answered all my questions in a professional way his response/replies were very quick. The course is structured in way that is easy to navigate and each subject laid out in a methodical way. I would highly recommend Open Colleges to anyone who likes to study online at home.

Excellent Experience
I have enjoyed my time studying online through Open Colleges as it truly did give me the flexibility that I was needing to complete further education around a full-time job and busy lifestyle.
There were no deadlines other than the final end date, and I could completely set the pace.
My trainers (Katherine and Rosalie) were always helpful, polite and pleasant to communicate any issues or concerns with. They were also quick to respond to any enquiries and gave valuable feedback for each of my submissions.
I found the online portal, learning material and assignments easy to understand, navigate and complete.
I would like to suggest an improvement moving forward for future learners of the certificate being sent out physically, rather than being printed. It is a little deflating to put so much effort into completing a years' worth of work and only get the option of a downloadable printout.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would not hesitate to enrol for future courses.

Recently i decided that i wanted to transfer courses. I booked an appointment via call with Steve, he was able to help me and explained the process clearly and gave me all the necessary information providing the transfer. He stopped every 5 minutes ensuring that i didn’t have any questions and ensuring that i was undertaking.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!
I cant do the videos as everyone in my house is under 18, so all my work doesnt account to my progress. Been at 2% for 6 months so I requested to cancel. I even changed banks to stop them taking money and now they are threatening debt collectors. I completed cancellation forms and explained yet no one confirms or even responds. Dont waste your time.

I made one enquire with this mob and they spam me to no end.

Gives as much info that you might need. Instructors are helpful with any clarification needed

I am so glad to say that I have graduated from Open Colleges. It has been a very tough journey for me, but also a very rewarding one.

I would like to take a moment to say a big thank you to my biggest supporter from the beginning, Selafina, the educator support coordinator. She supported me whenever I had trouble during my journey. Thank you so much, Selafina. Without your support and guidance, I could not have completed this course.
