Experience was good

Experience was good, believe I have purchased a product that will suit my needs, cannot give 5 stars to a product I haven’t needed to call on if at all. Asked to provide photos of dashboard, immediately picked up on tyre pressure sensor so do believe there are genuine individuals at least on the mechanical side

The warranty package should be avoided!

The warranty package is very well priced and easy to purchase but once you've purchased and heaven forbid you have to make claim this is where your nightmare begins.

I had a my car MOT'd not too long ago and the mechanic said he found an engine oil leak. I decided since i have a warranty on the car i'd give them a call. It took them over a week to find a suitable garage to take the vehicle too. After providing the car to the garage the mechanic provided pictures of the fault and sent a full report to the warranty company. Its now been two weeks whereby I've been chasing the warranty company daily for updates.

The warranty company states they need to send an independently engineer check the car despite the garage 'they' choose advising them what the fault is with the car with images. The warranty company cannot provide any timeline on when they can send this 'independent' engineer. The garage as they haven't been advised to proceed with the repairs haven't booked the car in for any repairs and cannot guarantee they can start immediately after approval as they have other jobs.

I've already spent £300 to hire a car for the first week the car was given to the garage to get me to and took the 2nd week off work as holiday as i cannot afford to spend another £300 on another hire. However it transpires I will now have to spend another £300 on a car hire for the 3rd week as it appears likely my vehicle will still not be repaired.

My advise is to go for a more expensive reputable warranty company as if something does go wrong you'll be in trouble. My options now if not repaired by the 3rd week is to take the car back repair myself and make a complaint to the financial ombudsman for the warranty company to compensate me for what i spend privately to get the car repaired. So it appears i will have spent £600 on car hires, lost a week of annual leave and will have spent another several hundred on repairs in a cost of living crisis. Thanks One Car Warranty!

Update in response to One Car Warrantys Reply:

After collecting my vehicle due to the claim rejection i’ve taken my car to an independent garage who have shown the oil leak is coming from the gearbox seal and that the drive shaft bolt is rubbing against the gearbox. According to your terms and conditions the drive shaft is covered.

The drive shaft bolt according to the mechanic was protruding and rubbing against the gear box. This could have be caused by one of many reasons including potential pot holes in road surfaces. Assuming this was left by a poor repair and rejecting a claim on this basis appears a very convenient excuse. There is also no indication that this has been happening for several thousand miles otherwise it will have already gone through into the gearbox causing permanent damage. The gearbox debris shown in the video I shared proved it was fresh and also shows the oil leak from the gear box. The draft shaft has since been replaced by the merchanic and they've confirmed there is no damage to the gearbox apart from the cosmetic damage.

As per your policy wording the timing belt is covered and as long as it has been changed as per the manufactures schedule which it has. The reason for the original garage recommending the timing belt needing changing is due to the gear box oil leaking onto the timing belt which in turn could cause it to slip which could then require a potential engine rebuild. The garage also confirmed there was no need to replace the water coolant pipes.

Also the comment in the report that engine/road grime present in the oil remnants proves the issue has been present for several months was nonesence. Can you advise what level of engine/road grime determines whether this issue was present before the warranty product was taken out? None of the pictures shared showed the engine/road grime. Also can evidence be provided from external sources what level of road/engine grime build up is to be expected after 3 months. Could the grime not have already been there and the recent oil leak dripped onto this grime?

I repaired the vehicle within 3 days of collecting from your garage. The car sat in the garage for two weeks previously whilst you waited for someone to comeout and inspect as you didnt agree with the original garages verdict. I will proceed with my complaint as i'm fortunate enough to be able to afford to pay for these repairs which by the way was almost half the price of the garage which was recommended. I want to ensure other motorists who may not be fortunate enough as myself to pay for such repairs to be left with an expensive bill despite investing in a warranty they believed would cover them in such scenarios.

It disappointing to hear that you are unhappy with how your claim has been handled. Defend Insurance have logged this as a complaint and will conduct a full review and respond to you directly.

However, we are aware that the claim was rejected following an independent engineer inspection. They found that the issues were already developing prior to taking out the warranty. We have decided to post a section of the report here to show fair balance to your review.

"The oil leak is not a sudden and unforeseen occurrence and has been present for multiple thousands of miles and in our opinion this oil leakage would have preceded the warranty inception date, with this opinion being based on the level of engine/road grime present in the oil remnants.

The coolant pipes on the front of the vehicle are also damaged; they appeared to have been rubbing on the engine cover, which would suggest that the cover or pipes have been fitted/routed incorrectly during a previous repair with the level of wear erosion again leading us to the conclusion this was a pre-existing condition prior to the warranty inception date.

I can confirm that a bolt is missing from the OS/F drive shaft, I suspect it had been left loose during a previous repair or possibly sheared off.

Gearbox casing damage is apparent, the transmission requires to be exposed to ascertain if the transmission requires to be replaced or repaired by a specialist welder.

Cheapest cover you will find

As warranties go this is by far the cheapest with all the parts, etc covered the same as other, more expensive providers.
I hope I will never need it but like motor insurance, it's nice to know you are covered in the eventuality.

I suppose getting the policy is as easy…

I suppose getting the policy is as easy experience. Surely the trust pilot score should only be viewed in the light of how this company perform if a claim is made. Hopefully I won’t need it. But at least I have the peace of mind. Which is a good experience.

Land Rover Discovery Warranty

Couldn't understand why there were two prices for the one year warranty so I called one car and spoke to Ben.
He answered my question and a few others. He was extremely helpful and answered all my questions. Signing up on line was easy to do.

Very competitive cover and cost

Easy to take out cover at a very competitive price. Hopefully will never have to use the cover provided but as long as the service is the same as other products provided by this company there should be no problems.
