Poor build quality vs OEM, and their "zero risk guarantee" isn't

One star. Ordered a replacement smart key fob for my 2018-2023 Nissan Leaf, order #646665. I own the factory OEM fob for the same vehicle, so this is a direct side-by-side comparison, not a guess.

The NorthCoast fob case is significantly harder to open than the OEM, and harder still to close back up. I opened mine to verify the battery before putting it into service. On my OEM fob this takes about ten seconds with a coin. On the NorthCoast fob I nearly cracked the case getting it apart and had to force the halves back together. Battery replacement is a normal user-serviceable task that every owner eventually does. A case that cannot be opened and closed without risking damage is not fit for purpose.

I contacted support. The reply was that a hard-to-open case does not indicate a defect. No troubleshooting offered, no request for photos or video, no acknowledgment that an identical OEM part does not have this problem. Just a flat no.
I asked to exchange within the return window. They declined exchange and instead sent return instructions requiring me to pay shipping back to Pennsylvania, with a disclaimer that refunds may be adjusted after inspection.

Their website advertises a "zero risk guarantee." Paying out of pocket to return a product that does not match the quality of the OEM it claims to replace is not zero risk. I am disputing the charge with my card issuer as goods not as described.

Save yourself the headache. Buy OEM from a Nissan dealer. The price difference is small, the part actually opens for a battery change, and if something goes wrong you are dealing with a manufacturer that stands behind its product instead of a reseller that argues with you over the definition of defective.

Total Scammers, Terrible Customer "Service"

Do not work with this company, worst customer service ever.

They sent me a defective remote...buttons did not press down and it should have been caught before shipping.

They refused to send a replacement or pay for the return until they received the product back (at my expense)

They ignored multiple follow up emails. I finally shared that this was a terrible process for a product that should never have been sent to begin with and this was their response;
____
Hello,

Since the product and service is terrible on all fronts, I have switched your exchange to a refund upon return.

Take care,

So, no, they will not replace this or make it right. I elevated this to the head of customer service, twice, and did not get a response.

Do not trust this company. They don't care about their customers. Pathetic.

Buyer Beware

Buyer Beware… Purchased a supposedly “New” FOB for our Lincoln which arrived locked to a previous vehicle and unusable. When reporting the issue, got the run around about whether or not it was the right FOB for the vehicle - - avoiding the actual issue. Returned the FOB and got a refund, LESS RETURN SHIPPING COSTS for their screw up.

Saved money and time

After inadvertently putting my Jaguar Epace fob in the washing machine, I was horrified to learn the replacement would cost about $1000 from the dealer. Instead, I bought one from North Coast Keyless for about $140 and had it programmed by a local locksmith recommended by NCK for $295. Not only did I save about $500 but I also saved half a day of my time that would have been required to go to the nearest dealer, drop of the car for several hours until they got around to programming the fob, and then returning to pick up the car. North Coast Keyless sells the real Jaguar fob at a great price and is very straightforward to deal with.

Fob did not work

Fob did not work. When I sent a email to swap out the unit I never received a reply. At first I was just thinking it was a fluke till I did a little research and found that this was a common issue with this company. I would suggest not doing business with this company. Proving to be a scam. I would have give them a good rating if they would have just done what they lead you to believe. Check other reviews.

Emailed the company to make sure I will receive a key fob unlocked and ready to program. Contacted them before purchasing so I wouldn’t have to go through this. Sure enough the key arrived locked. Emailed them back showing them that they told me it would arrive unlocked. They did not take responsibility and now I’m stuck with a key I can’t use. Won’t use them again.

Was not great. Dealer could not program keys for my 2005 Dodge Magnum. Because of the short 30 day return policy I could not get a refund.

It's just a used, LOCKED key!

They sold me a locked Mercedes key fob for $100! I used the same reputable and trusted locksmith I've used for years to attempt to program the key fob I purchased. He explained that it was just someone's old key that North Coast Keyless hadn't unlocked. I brought it to their attention, and they were not concerned with it at all. They just said it was past the 30 day mark to return it. Fine - that's really not the point. If you were a legitimate company who sold OEM keys, wouldn't you want to investigate what happened? THE KEY ITSELF IS LOCKED and simply cannot be used at all. Their response was rude, flippant, and just...very shady. This was in email because you cannot even call them. What kind of a "business" doesn't want you calling them?
I'd trust them as much as if you were buying out of someone's trunk...maybe you are. They don't even have an address, either. (FYI, the locksmith just programmed another key that he had. If I had checked with him first, I'd have known that I didn't even need to purchase from NorthCoast Keyless to begin with.)

I ordered a key fob for a 2005 Rav4

I ordered a key fob for a 2005 Rav4. It arrived looking as if new and the company provided me with the detailed directions via email attachment. It was difficult at first. The directions were simple and well organized, but I found that even a slight oversight made a big difference. After maybe 8 or so tries I finally succeeded in programming the new fob. I must say that the directions were correct. I would use this company again under the right circumstances. They also publish with the directions that some fobs may need professional assistance, as not all fobs are a DYI project.

I ordered two replacement key fobs for my 2009 Subaru Forester. The used fobs were shipped promptly, but they would not program to my vehicle. I followed instructions on the North Coast Keyless website precisely, watched videos, spent a few hours attempting to program them. I also brought them to a local locksmith who likewise concluded the issue was with the fobs. I reached out to their customer service, received an automated response saying they would "respond within 24 hours (1 business day) to get you taken care of," and that was about three weeks ago. No further follow up and no clear return process. Do not order directly from their website. This was a waste of my money. I will update my review if I ever hear back about a return / refund procedure.

I lost the fob to my 2023 Nissan Leaf

I lost the fob to my 2023 Nissan Leaf. I contacted the local Nissan dealer and was told that a new fob would cost me $291.00 and programming would be an additional $125 for a total of $416. A local automotive locksmith quoted me a total of $298 using an aftermarket fob or a total of $443 for an original manufacturer’s equipment (OME). I bought a “gently used” fob from NorthCoast Keyless for $59.00 and paid my local Nissan dealer $149.93 (which included tax and $19.42 for “environmental/shop supplies”) for programming. I saved over $200! I admit that the plentiful negative reviews of NorthCoast at this site and the cautions the dealership mentioned to me about using anything but OME caused me anxiety, but, having gone through the process, I can only conclude that NorthCoast has a viable product and that comes with 30 day return and 90 day replacement guarantee and that the people at NorthCoast are honest. I commend NorthCoast and I commend my dealer for its willingness to work with me. That’s probably since I’m in Maine and Maine people are special.

Don't order from this company. If you do a return and try to get information from them, they will threaten you and tell you not to contact your bank or they'll make it extremely hard to get your refund if at all. The fob sold would never work after we were told that it would have to be purchased from a dealership. And you lose more money returning the fob to them because they don't provide return envelopes. Totally disgusted.

Not free shipping and not OEM key fobs COUNTERFEIT

The web site Says "Standard shipping is FREE-Always" I didn't notice until after i placed the order they charged me 4.99 for shipping. When I contacted them I was told
"There is a minimum for free shipping. The Below Minimum $19.99 Order Value is $4.99 Shipping. This is stated before the order is placed on the checkout page".
After I complained I noticed they changed the website .
Also the keyfob they sent is not OEM, GM key fobs have a p/n and a FCC# on then these did not they are COUNTERFEIT fobs.

Very high failure rate

Very high failure rate. Do not buy from here. Two fobs now do not work. And professional auto re-keyers have warned me, they will not buy products from North Coast Keyless. Too many problems. And customer service was so bad, I can only catagorize the person I communicated with as a complete moron. Stay away from them. Cheap poorly made fobs with circuit boards that may or may not work, and if they do they may wear out quickly. And if you have to work through a warranty claim, God help you.

I was on a wait list for a key for my 2016 Mercedes E400. I finally was notified that it was in. I wanted to make sure that I had the right fob. I called the dealer and got the exact part number. I then contacted Northcoast keyless with the information. I never heard back. I could have paid for the fob and found that it wasn't the wrong one!

Waste of money and time...get a key from your local locksmith and have them cut and program it!!!! The keys they sell run on different "frequency" so you're probably going to get the wrong fob! Wrote to them about it and didn't get any help ..just "you should have read the description better". Save your money, time and sanity and order your fob from a local locksmith!!!

They don’t stand behind their guarantee. I did not receive their e mail with my ra # within the seven days so they refused to refund me or help me get the fob programmed. I paid over 100 dollars for a product I can’t use or return.
