A scammy mess

At pickup they didn’t even look at the car — just an iPad, several km away from it. At return, suddenly they had all the time in the world to go over every inch.

The pickup “inspection” was the guy at the counter with a tablet, showing briefly a myriad of pre-marked damages, and asking me to sign before I’d even seen the car. So I photographed every panel and filmed the undercarriage before driving off.

The car was a 2025 model (1 year old) but already had scratches and dents everywhere, so clearly they don’t repair every mark between customers. Which makes the return all the more absurd..

At return, though, the inspector went over the car meticulously — and landed on a small string missing from the boot. And his app had a €150 charge pre-filled before we’d even talked about it. I disputed it on the spot, because genuinely why in the world would I take that string out.

It’s been 19 days now and I’ve heard nothing — no documentation of any kind. They quietly changed the reservation from around €600 to a €230 charge, and I still don’t know what I’m actually paying for. I can’t even file with my insurance, since they’ve given me nothing to support it.

A nearly new car covered in cosmetic damage, but I get billed €150 for a missing piece of string worth a fraction of that. It's very obvious that the whole business model is to rake in money repeatedly on pre existing conditions.

Oh, and they charge €0.18 + €0.5/minute to call customer support and they seem to be ignoring inquiries from the contact form. It's almost hilarious.

Won’t be renting from them again.

The easy walk-in booking at BGY really saved my day

The easy walk-in booking at BGY really saved my day, as another company refused to accept my non-EU driving licence, requiring an "international driving licence" — which was unexpected for me as a returning customer. Pleasant staff, new and clean cars.

Noleggiare scam

Like others we experienced being tricked into paying for a damage that were already there when we got the car.

When you sign on the iPad you can not see what you are actually signing and the lying employee at hand in told us something else. We had a flight to catch and have never received an invoice for the amount they have deducted- thus we can not claim the insurance.

We have contacted Noleggiare several times but arrogance and the lack of action is downright unacceptable.

Charged for Pre-Existing Damage Without Any Pickup Inspection

I strongly advise anyone considering renting a vehicle from Noleggiare to be extremely cautious.

At vehicle pickup, no proper inspection was carried out. No employee walked around the car with us, no existing damages were pointed out, and no condition report was reviewed or signed. As a customer, this left me with no opportunity to verify what damage, if any, already existed on the vehicle.

At drop-off, the experience became even worse. The employee who received the vehicle was aggressive, hostile and intimidating. He immediately claimed that I had caused damage and demanded that I pay €300, despite having no proof that the scratches had occurred during my rental.

To make matters worse, I was also charged an additional €65.57 (plus VAT) as a "Damage and Insurance Management" fee, a charge that was never disclosed or explained when I rented the vehicle. The invoice therefore totaled €380.

I was also shocked to discover that the €800 security deposit was actually charged to my credit card rather than merely pre-authorized, as I reasonably understood would happen. After already collecting the disputed €380, the company continues to hold my deposit.

The most serious issue is that Noleggiare has no evidence that the alleged damage was caused by me. Since no inspection was performed at pickup, the company cannot establish the condition of the vehicle when it was delivered. It is unacceptable to shift the burden of proof to the customer after failing to follow basic rental procedures.

As an Italian citizen, I will formally challenge these charges through the appropriate legal channels in Italy if this matter is not resolved.

My advice to other customers is simple: record a complete video of the vehicle before leaving the rental office and again before returning it. Do not rely on the company's inspection process.

Unfortunately, this was one of the worst car rental experiences I have ever had. I cannot recommend Noleggiare.

Until this dispute is fairly resolved, I cannot recommend Noleggiare to anyone looking for a transparent and trustworthy car rental experience in Italy.

Beware of Bodywork damage scam

So disappointed in the return procedues at Venice Airport. Check in at the airport was excellent with helpful and polite staff but what a contrast with the return. Aggressive and unfriendly attitude and miraculously found 2 very minor "scratches" that had not been logged previously with the use of a high powered lamp. So obviously a scam as there was no way these scratches could have been accidently made due totheir position on the hatch door under the handle. To compound my disappointment, my credit card had already been debited by the time I got back to London and 3 days later I am still waiting for any confirmation or invoice so I can at least make a claim under my excess of loss policy (despite 2 emails to date requesting details of the charges). I cannot recommend using this company and will not be doing so again. Beware and if you have the mis-fortune to book them ensure you thoroughly check the state of the car using a torch/inspection lamp.

Brindisi Airport Branch - WORSE SERVICE EVER!

Brindisi Airport Branch

Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience from start to finish.

To begin with, I was not given the vehicle I had booked. I didn’t complain at the time, but I had expected a vehicle similar in size to a Peugeot 3008 and instead received a much smaller 4x4.

I also felt under pressure to purchase the company’s full insurance, despite already having separate rental car insurance. I declined the additional cover.

Collecting the car took much longer than expected. When we were finally taken to the vehicle, the porter did not inspect it with us, and the exterior of the car wasn’t even clean.

Returning the car was even worse.

When I arrived, there was a very long queue. I politely asked a member of staff, who was on a personal phone call, whether I needed to queue to return the car or if there was another way to hand the vehicle back, as I was running late for my flight.

Her attitude was extremely unhelpful. When she asked whether I had taken the company’s full insurance and I replied that I hadn’t, she said that was my problem and that if I had purchased their insurance, I could have left the car without waiting for it to be checked. I found this response unprofessional and unhelpful.

I told her I would take photographs and a video of the car before handing over the keys. When I returned to the desk, I asked if she would accept the keys and allow me to take a photo confirming they had been returned. She refused, saying I had to wait for the porter.

At the time, the porter was already dealing with another customer over alleged vehicle damage, the porter was quoting to repair the damage. The porter and another member of staff told the customer that he should have taken out the full insurance cover. They were definitely trying to get money out of this customer for no reason.

I was also told that I should have returned the car earlier in the day because more staff were on duty then. For reference, I returned the car at around 7:00 pm, which I don’t consider unusually late.

In the end, I found a key drop box, posted the keys through it, and recorded a video as proof. Before I left, I was warned that if any damage was found, I would be charged. Given that no inspection was carried out with me when I collected the vehicle, and no inspection was carried out when I returned it, this left me feeling very uncomfortable.

I have used this car rental company several times in Italy before without any issues, so this experience at the Brindisi Airport branch was particularly disappointing.

Based on this experience, I would NOT recommend using this branch, ever!!!!

Our experience left us feeling intimidated, exploited and extremely disappointed.

We booked our hire car through Ryanair because we trusted that the companies they recommend would operate fairly and professionally. Unfortunately, our experience with Noleggiare at Brindisi Airport was anything but.

It started with a €68 late collection fee, despite our delay being caused by our flight and lengthy airport queues—circumstances completely outside our control.

When collecting the car, we were repeatedly pressured to buy additional insurance costing €38 per day, even though we had already purchased cover through Ryanair. We declined, but the pressure continued.

The worst part came when we returned the vehicle.

We returned it early, with a full tank of fuel, believing it to be in the same condition as when we collected it. The employee walked straight to the front bumper and immediately identified what appeared to be a tiny surface scratch. He barely inspected the rest of the vehicle.

When we questioned whether the scratch had occurred during our rental, another member of staff was called over. Rather than calmly discussing the situation, she was aggressive and confrontational. We felt intimidated and were told we either had to pay immediately or lose our deposit.

She initially quoted us €180 for the damage. All three of us clearly heard this. However, when we went inside to pay, the amount had suddenly become €380, and she denied ever quoting the lower figure.

When we asked whether the vehicle would actually be repaired, we were told they simply charge customers and do not necessarily repair the damage. We also noticed other scratches on vehicles that had clearly not been repaired.

The whole experience left us feeling that the process was focused on generating damage charges rather than treating customers fairly. We left feeling pressured, intimidated and with no realistic option other than to pay.

Looking on Trustpilot I’ve read numerous reviews describing remarkably similar experiences: pressure to buy additional insurance, very minor scratches being identified on return, and large damage charges. Reading those reviews made us feel that our experience was not an isolated incident and very concerning.

We have submitted a formal complaint to Ryanair and an insurance claim, and we have asked Ryanair to investigate whether Noleggiare should continue to be promoted as one of their recommended car hire partners.

If you are considering hiring from Noleggiare, please read the reviews carefully before booking. We certainly wish we had.

The worst car hire company that uses…

The worst car hire company that uses every scam in the book to get a few extra euros. Make sure you pore over the car with a fine toothed comb. They tell you there’s some damage in an area, you look and find it and photograph it and drive off. Then when you return it they go straight to another patch in a similar area and charge you. Unless you take their excess which is yet more money. Go to a more reputable firm for peace of mind.

Don’t be tempted by what appears to be a cheaper rental price

I booked a large SUV for a two-week trip in Italy for four adults, all travelling with large suitcases. After comparing several booking sites, I found what appeared to be a great deal through Rentalcars.com with Noleggiare, so I decided to book with them.

Unfortunately, the problems started before we even collected the vehicle. Our airline changed our flight, meaning we would arrive four hours earlier than planned. I contacted Noleggiare’s customer service to see if they could help, but they simply kept referring me back to the booking broker without making any effort to assist. I considered cancelling the booking while I still had free cancellation, but since the payment had already been taken from my credit card, I didn’t want to go through the hassle of chasing a refund.

When we arrived at the rental desk, the staff member was very friendly and offered us an “upgrade” for an additional $30 per day. It quickly became clear that this was more of an upselling exercise than a genuine upgrade. Although I had already purchased collision protection through the booking, I was told it didn’t cover other types of damage and was pressured into buying additional insurance. In the end, I paid around 60% more than my original booking price between the upgrade and the extra insurance.

The vehicle itself was almost brand new, with only 1,000 km on the odometer, and mechanically it was fine. However, despite paying for a larger vehicle, it was a very basic model with limited luggage space and lacked the power to comfortably carry four adults and all our luggage. We managed, but it certainly wasn’t what we expected.

The worst experience came when returning the vehicle. The return instructions contained a link that didn’t work and redirected me to the company website instead of the drop-off location. Wanting to avoid any issues, I emailed customer service early that morning asking them to confirm the correct return address. I never received a reply.

Using the only address I could find, I arrived exactly on time, only to discover it was a residential address and not the rental return location. After calling the office, I was finally given the correct address and drove there immediately, arriving just 20 minutes late.

Despite the delay being entirely caused by the incorrect information provided and the lack of response from customer service, I was charged an additional day’s rental. Even the staff at the return office acknowledged the situation and advised me to contact customer service for a refund.

I submitted a detailed complaint immediately after the rental and have followed up several times, but I have received no response whatsoever. I have now escalated the matter through Rentalcars.com in the hope of recovering the additional charges.

My advice is simple: don’t be tempted by what appears to be a cheaper rental price. The low headline rate is quickly offset by aggressive upselling, poor customer service, and unexpected extra costs. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I would not rent from Noleggiare again or recommend them to anyone.

Noleggiare pulls all the classic SCAMS…

Noleggiare pulls all the classic SCAMS a rental car company can. They have been fraudulent with us all the way :

- Refusing to give us the cars we paid for because we did not have an international permit (which was never asked in any of the confirmation email or the booking process).

- Then implying they might give us the car if we paid for a daily extra for the insurance (we had insurance with our credit cards)

- Then refusing to lend us the cars anyway and telling us to write to costumer service to get our money back (just letting you know we had a 6 months baby and a pregnant lady and we’d just arrives in rome after a 8 hours flight)

- Then accepting to give us the cars because I hear the same situation happening with another client who’ve they « decided » to make an exception they did non want to so for us.
- Then telling us the automatic SUV we booked and paid are no longer available and we had to have smaller cars - one was manual.

- Then giving the car back and have an employee inspecting our car with a LED light to find an insivible to the eye scratch and charge us 330 euros.

Don’t even start me on the client service following my refusal to pay the fees. Even if you have all the proof and a strong case, they will never give you reason. Their answers are generic, it feels like they are automatically answered.

Honestly, just stay away from Noleggiare. I’ve lived in Italy, I speak Italian, I had never had a problem renting a car there with other companies. Noleggiare drained a lot of my energy throughout and after the rental. Fourtunately my credit card company is fully invested in contesting their charge so that this company might start thinking building an honest company and stop stealing from it’s clients.

Criminal Company

Claimed for Vegetation scratches that could be wiped away with a wet towel. Refused to even show us where those scratches were saying that they would be on the report. Tried to pressure us into accepting the damages because we had excess insurance anyway Rude, aggressive employees. By the looks of the reviews here they do this as a matter of course. They should be investigated by the police as what they are doing is criminal. They take advantage of tired, hot and stressed tourists worried about catching their flights home. I am shocked that they can get away with this. FYI This was in Sardinia at Cagliari Airport.

Terrible!!

First of all - I was waiting for my turn for over 30minutes. Second of all - I was waiting for over 30min just to find out that I can’t get my reservation thru because my bank card doesn’t include my middle name. I mean… many banks in many countries resign from including 2nd name on the card because of the extra space that it covers, there’s nothing I could do about it even if I wanted to. Thankfully I didn’t book thru their web but thru 3rd party who help me to relocate my booking to another company that didn’t make any problems and calmed me down in a very stressful situation. I don’t understand how 2nd name on the card can make such a difference for noleggiare if the main name is still there. Don’t recommend.

A 30 minute wait followed by a name-matching issue you had no control over is genuinely frustrating, and we understand why that left a bad impression. Card details are checked against ID for security reasons, but a missing middle name shouldn't have caused this much trouble when the main name matched. We'd like to look into how this situation was handled at the desk. Please contact us through our official channels with your booking reference so we can follow up.
