"Your window is closing"

Waited 40 minutes to speak to a customer service advisor who directed me to another department as they could not address my issue. My account was charged but I was unable to access the subscription.

Unsure as to what purpose the chat serves if the customer service advisors won't read it properly and can't assist with concerns anyway.

Disconnect with the New Yorker's reputation vs its subscription management

There is a real disconnect with the esteemed reputation and quality content of The New Yorker and the subscription management section of the website. Until this year I would always receive an email reminder about my subscription renewal (I am not in the US so it is an overseas subscription). This year I haven't received anything so I went to the subscriptions section under my account and it is a blank page. Despite repeated emails and contact with an online "agent" who informed me that they don't have access to my subscription details I still can't see the information on the page. They then gave me a Conde Nast fulfillment email which is a different email to the New Yorker email. I don't know if the New Yorker subscription team see these reviews but I hope they do. They seem to spend a lot of money on their journalism as they should and their various festivals etc but when it comes to the audience who are actually buying the magazine they don't seem to care and have obviously chosen the cheapest budget platform possible.

Do not subscribe

Do not subscribe. They took my subscription on a continuous payment mandate which they say you can cancel but they don’t issue an account number so you can’t log in to cancel. Customer Service is a joke. A different nonsensical reply every time.

WARNING : App doesn’t work on iOS

If you want to read the New Yorker on a mobile device, I strongly warn you against this app. The app hasn’t been working on IOS for over a month and customer service, while acknowledging the issue (due to an update in the app incompatible with iOS devices, they say), hasn’t yet provided a fix. I faced a similar issue last year for weeks; also after an update that didn’t function with iOS. Condé Nast seemingly can’t afford engineers who can roll out code changes without causing major issues. My repeated polite requests for either a refund or an extension of my subscription equivalent to the duration of the issue have been ignored. In short: stay away.

Never got subscription despite taking my money

Paid for a subscription via PayPal. Immediately couldn’t get into the digital subscription. They tell you the subscription number is on your physical magazine but I don’t live in the US and don’t receive a physical magazine. Wrote to them with all info. They said they can’t find my account. I looked up other reviews and people had the same issue so I reported it on PayPal who sided in my favor. I informed the New Yorker and asked them not to renew next year. A month later I get an email from PayPal asking did I want to send the refund back as The New Yorker has provided tracking information. Tracking for what? It’s a digital subscription I bought and they have zero record of it. So how did they send tracking to PayPal, when no one has been able to find my subscription. It looks like this tech issue has been happening for at least five years and they just don’t care. Wish I had read the reviews first. Surely a publication this well known in NYC could find someone to hire to figure out whatever basic tech issue this is and fix it.

DO NOT SUBSCRIBE

DO NOT SUBSCRIBE! The rubbish they dribble when trying to unsubscribe is beyond belief. Repeated "difficulty" finding the account. Can't action the request to unsubscribe. Report them to your national consumer advocacy organisation.

Scammy practice

Scammy practice, cancellation nightmare. I've been on the phone with customer service since the online account did not have the cancellation option. Main office and Magazine dept passed me back and forth like a pingpong ball, both unable to cancel my account.

I subscribed to the New Yorker via…

I subscribed to the New Yorker via Condé Nast who is their parent company I guess and was supposed to get the 100 anniversary New Yorker tote as part of that subscription. It’s been nearly 6 months and they claim that they sent the tote (twice after I asked about not recieving it annd asking for tracking info…and being told “we use local
Post so no tracking available”), and I still have yet to receive it. I honestly do not think they ever sent it ever. I get people answering my emails with odd weird names that clearly aren’t English names ( maybe bots) so I wonder if they are operating out of some third world country and just hustling people. Frustrated by the lack of follow through or commitment to customer service.

Their renewal policy is absolutely…

Their renewal policy is absolutely ridiculous. They automatically sign you up for auto-renewal. The very tiny fine print of their "policy" states you can cancel anytime, no questions asked BUT you only have 14 days after your renewal or you'll be billed for the ENTIRE YEAR. So, now I get another year of a magazine I don't want. This company sucks!!!!

Terrible User Interface

I signed up for a digital subscription to the New Yorker magazine recently. I have had nothing but continuous trouble trying to sign in. When I try to read an article I get a pop up telling me to log in. Then my email and password are rejected. I have reset passwords, contacted customer care and still experience problems trying to read my subscription.

What a supreme disappointment

What a supreme disappointment. I am beside myself and so very, very sad.

I love the New Yorker and I love David Sedaris in all of his incantations. I was so happy to see in the print version his narrative about the care and feeding of Hugh, his significant other, after Hugh’s hip surgery. I was so looking to hearing David’s narration in the June 30, 2025 issue.

But a pox upon the house of the New Yorker for skipping David’s narration and substituting a generated voice. I am heartbroken. Please don’t do this again, ever, at least not with the work of David Sedaris.

Shame! Shame! Shame! Shit, I’m out of breath. Please don’t do this again, at least not with the work of David Sedaris.

Thank you for understanding my concerns.

Don’t fall for the tote bag, especially if outside the US

I’ve always liked The New Yorker magazine, but my most recent subscription, which I placed in February, left me completely disappointed. The tote bag that was supposed to come as a free gift never arrived within the promised timeframe — even after 10 weeks.

Since I live in France, I contacted customer service at support(at)newyorker(dot)com to check the status. For the record, I also never received the tote bag from a previous subscription, so this time I really didn’t want to let it slide.

The first representative confirmed that the 8–10 week delivery window had passed, and asked for my shipping address to send the bag. Then came the twist: I was told to wait another 6 to 8 weeks for delivery.

In the end, the tote finally showed up — on June 16. That’s nearly twenty weeks of waiting.

AND THE CHERRY ON TOP? When I went to pick it up at the post office, I was asked to pay €9 in customs fees.

I know no one can control customs charges once an item crosses borders. But after all that waiting, having to pay for what's supposed to be a free gift? I genuinely feel scammed — and honestly, I'm furious. If you live outside the US, keep that in mind before subscribing.

From now on, I won’t fall for any kind of advertising bait ever again.

My rating: One star — not because you earned it, but because I couldn’t go any lower.

Major problems with subscriptions

As a promotion, they gave a free gift subscription along with the paid subscription; then they went in and changed the gift subscription to the paid subscription and expected me to pay again. The people I dealt with were condescending and supercilious. I wound up cancelling my subscription, but at least my friend got a subscription for free that continues. Over the last five years I had a lot of problems with my subscription, which is why I was watching it so carefully.

I had a subscription for years and it never worked properly. Slow response from customer service.
I cancelled the subscription and tried again after 2 years. With exactly the same bad experience. I sign in the account and it says no subscription. I try to link it to print. Not working.
A real shame.

Subscription renewed despite request for cancellation, no refund

I had a very disappointing experience with The New Yorker’s subscription cancellation process. I attempted to cancel my account before renewal but was unable to do so through the My Account section due to technical issues. I reached out to customer support requesting cancellation, yet my subscription was still automatically renewed.

When I followed up, they acknowledged the issue but refused to issue a refund, despite my timely request. This feels unfair and unprofessional—customers should not be charged due to system failures beyond their control. Be cautious if subscribing, as canceling may not be as straightforward as expected.

Disappointed!

I signed up for a trial subscription that promised me a tote bag. I have never received it and they are now not responding to my emails.

Their articles are so long they those hours to read. 😴
