First time buyer - I purchased a 2015 ford fiesta from new automotive in April 2025. Matt came across as respectful and not "pushy" allowing us to look at car and take for a test drive. He also reassured me that new wet belt had recently been completed.

Everything after purchase has unfortunately been a disaster. I drove the car home with a massive nail in one of the tyres which he replaced. Two months into having the car (June), I had issued with the gearbox in which the car would just randomly refuse to go into gear. Matt just referred back to "putting the clutch down properly" something I was obviously doing. This resulted into the first repair which was related to the gear box.

Furthermore, around December 2025, 8 months after purchase, I now had issues with the clutch to which resulted in an inspection at garage and another repair job - 3 part clutch + master cylinder which set me back £838.

Post this repair, I then had to get a brand new exhaust due to having a blown one which cost £186 as well as air con re-gas for £200.

Referring back to the beginning, Matt reassured that the wet belt had recently been sorted, which turned into a blatant lie. This is because in may 2026, I had an engine warning light appear which after an inspection linked to an engine issue, which of course was the wet belt. In this period, I reached out to Matt in Feb stating the issues I was having and that I wanted a copy of the invoice for the wet timing belt repair and that it was apparently done by his garage "Garage 2U Servicing". Matt stated he would contact and send me the invoice of this repair which of course didn't happen, and when asking about it, I was completely ignored (still delivered to this day).

The repair was done and an additional £1,400 was spent on repairs. When asking if the wet timing belt had been done prior (as Matt stated), the mechanic said not at all, and in fact also found metal shavings on the car and probably wouldn't run for another 40k-60k miles. This takes me to today, where the car is currently on 64k miles and is basically un-driveable due to a bad noise coming from the engine.

Due to spending £3,052.68 on the car on repairs in only a year of owning the car, I have decided to give up on the car and not put anymore money into it. To conclude, of course, people will have their own experiences in buying a car from this company but for my own, it has been shambolic experience.

Selling Cars with OUTSTANDING FINANCE!

Purchased a car in January but having had continuous problems with electrical/engine faults so decided to trade it in. We then received a call saying the car could not be used as trade in due to unpaid finance. Called New Automotive who advised he had settled it and for me to call the finance company! We were advised by Trading standards to return the car for a full refund, called Garage and asked for them to have the car back and in return re-imburse us the value of the trade in (some £2k less than purchase price) and told NO, as he would be in the same position as me!!!

After 10 days, and the finance company advising me they had commenced action to get the vehicle repossessed due to none payment, WE finally managed to sort it out (after making 50+ phone calls)

This was an situation that should have never happened but when it did it should NOT have been down to the customer to resolve. When purchasing a used card from a GARAGE, the customer should not have to undertake a HPI check as it is illegal for a garage to sell a car with outstanding finance.

Obviously, this matter has been reported to Trading Standards, and I hope New Automotive are fined/closed down.

This is totally unacceptable and caused endless stress and I hope no-one else has this problem. The ONLY good thing to come from it is that we discovered the unpaid finance before the loan company completed the repossession order.

I was interested in a car advertised on the Cazoo website by New Automotive.

The advert included a private mobile number. I called the number on three different occasions over several days, but each time I reached an answering machine and left a message. Unfortunately, I never received a response.

Because I was very interested in the car and had seen good reviews, I decided to travel to their site in person. However, when I arrived at 4:30 pm on a Monday, the premises were closed, despite their advertised closing time being 6:30 pm.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company. If this is the level of customer service before a purchase, it raises concerns about how any issues would be handled after a sale.

Very disappointing experience. If there were an option to give zero stars, I would.

We bought a car from New Automotive for my son’s first car, reassured at the time of purchase that the wet belt had just been changed. Within only a few months, the catalytic converter failed and had to be replaced. Soon after, we faced water leaking into the engine.

Just 18 months after purchase—and with very few miles driven—the wet belt failed. When we spoke to Matt, we were told nothing could be done as the replacement of the wet belt was out of warranty. His “solution” was either to repair it for £1,500 or buy the car back from us for £2,000. This was shocking considering we had paid £6,200 for the car only 18 months earlier.

We did not want them to fix it, as we had no confidence it would be done properly given all the other problems we had already faced. We eventually had the car repaired by our own mechanic at a cost of £2,000. At that point, we were advised there was absolutely no way the wet belt had ever been changed, despite being told otherwise at the time of sale. In other words, we were lied to.

Since buying this car, we have done nothing but spend money on repairs. The promises made at the time of purchase were false, and the car was clearly misrepresented.

Please think very carefully before buying from this dealer, and be extremely cautious about believing what you are told.

To add in response to your reply on google reviews, the car has been serviced since buying from yourselves. The car had done less than 5000 miles in 18 months, not substantial miles as you have stated in your reply.
Yes you offered to get the car fixed for £1500 but then changed your mind. The wet belt on this vehicle had never been changed and you sold my son this car knowing that. You clearly have “no conscience".

It seems like we are not the only people who have experienced this same problem. See review below dated February 2025.

I purchased a Ford Fiesta EcoBoost from Matt at New Automotive in April 2023, assured the wet belt had been replaced. Turns out, it hadn’t—confirmed by an independent mechanic after a major failure.

I wonder how many more people you have done this to.

Bought car off Matt a year ago ,cars been great but due to daughter being at university we had to sell, the car just sitting . Matt purchased the car back it’s been a great experience again dealing with Matt .

Recently purchased Mercedes from Matt, second choice as my first choice had some teething issues. Delivery took a bit longer than desired, however communication and overall satisfaction is good. Would recommend.

First came across New Automotive on Autotrader. Once I got in contact with what I wanted, Matt kept me updated on the vehicles he was getting in that was matching what I wanted. Bought a 2012 Ford Focus from Matt last week and everything has been fantastic, absolutely no problems whatsoever, had a minor abs light and had it fixed within days.

Matt was really helpful - a very unassuming no pressure car sales man. He was happy to communicate which cars were available and happy to offer test drives. He is happy to offer any aftercare issues or concerns which is reassuring when you buying your son’s first car. Great service all round - thank you Matt

New Automotive are an extremely professional motor supplier. We recently bought an emmaculate car. Matt the owner, is very trustworthy and provided us with all the reassurance. There was no pressure to buy, rather Matt wanted to ensure we bought the right vehicle. He's aftercare has been amazing. Contacting us to ensure the car was ok and that we were happy. The car came with 6 months warranty and runs fantastic. Massive thankyou Matt and New Automotive for such an amazingly wonderful experience. We are to return soon for a second car!
