SO many great things about Neon. Except when things aren't great. I like the events and the unlimited accounts in the CRM. I appreciate the one-on-one training and that they are constantly improving... See more

We've used Neon One for about 5 years and were happy with the platform for most of that time. This spring, financial realities forced us to move off paid platforms. When I went to cancel, I learned our subscription had auto-renewed and the rate increased automatically too and we were committed through September 2026.
Neon One's renewal is opt-out only. You get a 30-day written notice window that opens 60 days before renewal. Miss it for any reason and you're locked in another full year.
For a small nonprofit without dedicated operations staff, that window is easy to lose. Reading back through our original sales and onboarding emails, that structure was never explained in plain language. (only in the fine print)
The written terms are "technically" clear, but the lived experience signing up is that you don't realize you've agreed to something that makes leaving difficult.
I asked Neon One for some flexibility (about 10 emails back and forth). A reduced commitment, a partial buyout, anything that would let us transition off without straining our budget. The answer was no. The remaining balance is around $500 for a service we're no longer using. That's a meaningful number for a small org. It's money that would have gone into our youth programming.
Our account manager was professional enough, wasnt rude, but didn't seem at all interested in trying to find any wiggle room. My disappointment is with the renewal policy itself, and the fact that there wasn't room to meet a small nonprofit partway when we were being very reasonable.
I'm sharing this so other small nonprofits know what they're signing up for.

Our first representative was very poor. She started out strong, but her directions became increasingly confusing. We finally became so frustrated with not only her directions but also her attitude, which was reflected in comments such as "you're not following my directions" instead of "how can I help you move forward," we were going to quit Neon One and we asked for a refund. For a CRM, she obviously has not learned the lessons of your own company. We have been assigned a new representative, which is a step in the right direction, but for us, the vote is still as to whether or not you can deliver what was promised by our sales representative and whether your services are actually a good fit for us and will do what we were promised. That is why I have given you a '3'. Initial experience was poor. Giving us a new rep was a good step. Now we'll see if you can deliver.

I got a lot of help, it just wasn't effective. I was between payouts and wanted to know what was deposited into our account since the last payout, 2 days earlier. We needed that to close out the financials of an event. There was one report that looked very promising, to sort for those transactions w/o a payout number. it came up with 119,000 transactions, so no help there. more ideas and tips were forthcoming but we just had to wait it out.

Top-class interaction with support staff. Quick response.

Unfortunately while the customer service was great, I cannot run the reports I was hoping.
Ty was as helpful as he could be!

From having been a dedicated customer of NeonOne for the last 4-years, I was recently dismayed to have received terrible customer service when our sales rep, Joe, would not allow a cancellation of an expensive add-on product on the date of renewal. I had felt that the organization had been a friend and partner to nonprofit organizations, but it has been become apparent that they employ unfair tactics to lock small and financially vulnerable organizations into predatory practices. What a disappointment, especially in these incredibly difficult times for nonprofits in the USA

I got a response right away from Ty. He asked for some more information to properly address my question. Once I sent it, he got back to me immediately with an answer to my problem.

My concerns were answered in a timely manner and with the understanding and empathy that I am new to this platform and was not fully able to proceed without assistance.

The support staff that helped with our data integration is well-informed and patient. They allowed me to ask very specific and detailed questions, understanding that the state of the data is critical to the success of our overall membership program. They did their best to explain their CRM's strengths and limitations in a way that will enable us to get the most out of it once we've set a strong foundation based on established standards.

I was forced to use their new events module by decision makers above me. It’s not useable at this time, ArtsPeople is far superior. I honestly would not have rolled it out until it was more completely developed.

It's still early to tell, but so far I'm pleased with the system - we've run some reports, imported additional account and donation information, generated and sent letters and used the automatic emails and external email BCC. Looking forward to sending emails and exploring additional functionality of the CRM.

Response was very quick and my questions were addressed. I had another related followup question which was addressed quickly as well. With the advice given, I was able to complete the setup of the constituent account and configuration of the timesheet.
