I thought I was paying my dad's…
I thought I was paying my dad's registration at the official dmv website but turns out it was a third party website that charges way more than the official dmv. I paid more than a hundred and by the time i realized I found out i couldn't get a refund from them and i just blew nearly 800 hundred dollars on this scam of website.

Excellent customer service and easy!
Excellent customer service and communication. The only thing to be aware of was a required piece of information was missed in the reviews (at the end it was caught), which was the mileage and my signature on the front of the title. That caused another turn of the documents. It's not a big deal to me cause it was very easy, but it did cause a bit of a delay in getting things finalized. Great service you all are providing!

Regarding Title Transfer services, when a vehicle is required to undergo a California-mandated smog inspection, our correspondence clearly instructs customers to notify our agents once the vehicle has successfully passed inspection. Because Title Transfers are manually processed and cleared by our agents, this step is essential to completing the transaction.
Our records indicate that the customer notified us by phone only after we issued a final notice email. Please note that all California Certificates of Title are issued, printed, and mailed directly by DMV headquarters in Sacramento, CA. This information is included in our communications. Once we complete the title transfer process, NeedTags promptly places the order in queue for title printing through DMV headquarters, and on that same day, we mail to our customer their new registration stickers and registration card. Please contact our customer care department if we can be of any further assistance.

The website can misleading you
The website can misleading you. If you go on google and search ca dmv registration. Their website go on top results and i thought it’s legit dmv.ca. I never thought i was at needtags.com until i paid and realized i am at the third party website. Layout of their website pretty similar to legit dmv.ca website. I tried to call them after I realized i made a mistake and cancel my order but nobody answer and leave my voicemail to give a call back but never return my call. I leave my message twice. Now as of today 03/16/2026 and call them the customer service is not very helpful to my request and i tried to ask to lower their charges. She told i never called on their records or maybe i called someone else. I was suprise by her response. And the lady also said “it’s done” i can’t do anything about it. After they took your money they don’t really care about your concern and they are not friendly either. This is my hard lesson which i never review on services or business.

It’s not free, but worth it
This service has a fee, but worth it. I don’t need to go to the DMV . Once the needed documentation has been provided, it is just a beeze to get the tags and the title. Excellent!!!

Terrible customer service. There was some confusion with my paperwork, and instead of working with me to make it right "Jane" just cancelled my order rather than work me to make it right. Her response was terse and under the circumstances, rude. I will never use this company again.

Regarding our Title Transfer services, we provide a comprehensive disclosure prior to checkout that clearly outlines the required documentation, as well as a detailed explanation of the overall process. Our goal is always to ensure customers understand what is needed to successfully complete their transaction.
In certain cases, including this one, additional information or corrections are required to meet California DMV documentation standards. Our agents reached out multiple times to assist and to request the necessary verification so we could move the process forward in compliance with DMV inventory requirements. Unfortunately, the requested corrections were not received, and the submitted documents remained incomplete.
As a result, the order was canceled and a full refund was promptly issued. We remain committed to helping our customers navigate the DMV process as smoothly as possible and are always available to provide guidance when needed.

Title transfers can be tedious, and it's best to have a trusted DMV registration service provider on your side.
Surprise follow up steps to complete order AFTER PAYING.
Thought I had done enough research to vet this site but absolutely gave me the run around. The charge to add an owner to a title was $150 with about $130 being a vague service charge which isn’t great but the real issue is that during the entire process of filing out the prompts, information, and finally paying; not once did it mention the need to mail out documents following the payment. Not even on the actual order confirmation screen did it have follow up steps. These were provided in a very vague follow up email. Explaining that the process would not begin until they received the mailed documents. Misleading advertisement of the process. Misleading of the timeframe of completion. And now that I have been mislead, I want to cancel my request but they have no information regarding refunds or FAQs on their site. Incredibly disappointing. So misleading in its advertisement that I would absolutely call this a scam

This important information is disclosed and explained in detail prior to checkout, alongside a full explanation of the process. We require our customers to acknowledge the necessity of mailing in documents during the checkout process. Our website explicitly states the following, "I agree that I must provide a copy of my identification and original title via mail. Additional documents may be required. Detailed instructions will be emailed after checkout." This information, and and our Terms and Conditions must be accepted. Title transfers can be tedious, and it's best to have a trusted DMV registration service provider on your side.
Expensive and Fake
I logged onto the DMV site and when I went to renew, I was directed to this site. It was very expensive (spx. $100 over the amount) and then I was sent a tag that is considered a novelty tag. It is illegal to place that tag on my vehicle. Do Not Use this company.

The 3M machine prints both the registration card and the sticker in one process. Our registration cards have the official California State Seal making it an official DMV document. This serves as proof of vehicle ownership and registration with the Department of Motor Vehicles. This document is legally recognized and is required for various purposes, such as driving legally and transferring vehicle ownership. Our tags are official registration tags issued by NeedTags on behalf of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The method of when registration stickers came individually wrapped in nylon bags is no longer relevant. It is important to know that novelty tags are decorative plates intended for personalization rather than official vehicle identification. Please note that NeedTags does not provide services related to novelty tags. NeedTags.com is a state approved Second Line business partner in the California DMV Business Partner Automation (BPA) program. We are agents of the State of California and the State is delegating vehicle registration services to us.

Predatory, shady, and mean services.
The website is pretty predatory in terms of how they deal service. They purposefully make themselves look like the DMV in terms of registration and charge exorbitant fees. They don’t allow refunds and the customer support was very rude when I requested a refund for the service charge and threatened lawful action if I decided to go to my credit issuer to dispute. Overall very shady company I would avoid at all costs. The online CA DMV website can cover 90% of your possible needs.
