The website explains different mortgage…

The website explains different mortgage and refinancing options pretty well and it’s free to submit your request. However, once my information was sent out I got contacted repeatedly by multiple lenders. Very detailed mortgage advice here. Thank you

Unfair fees

Looking to move home, but Nationwide won't move my mortgage to my new home. As such, they are FORCING me to pay £6,000 in an Early Repayment Charge, despite me practically begging them to keep me on as a customer!

For context - other companies have offered me a decision in principle, so I cannot understand why Nationwide won't!

Bad experience do not be a customer with these

I a I’ve never been so stressed in my life . Being in critical care and then a coma in which I nearly didn’t survive . They have left me to struggle with my mortgage. I had advisor who didn’t know what they were doing. As I had a 5 month interest as I was ill prior to being rushed in . I asked for another 6 months and was refused . I was told I could do an income and expenditure but would effect my credit file . Disgusting really. I have paid my mortgage all my life and when you ask for help they don’t bother , they do the bare minimum ie what the government says . 6 months is a joke if your really ill. I raised a complaint and the person MIn Patel cherry picked what she wanted to look at and the response didn’t acknowledge everything I complained about . It was a slap dash look . I appealed and she did it again. You should be ashamed and your making billions and you can’t help people

I have a life time mortgage with…

I have a life time mortgage with Nationwide. I wanted to move the mortgage from my original property to a new property. I tried to do this recently and it proved to be impossible. I had a survey on the new property last year and it was accepted by Nationwide but the sale on my original property fell through and I had to find a new buyer which I did and tried to buy the same property but this time Nationwide wouldn’t accept the survey and I was told by Nationwide I couldn’t buy the new property. Apparently Nationwide doesn’t do Life Time Mortgages anymore but I wasn’t told this till five weeks after I started the application. I will now loose my buyer again and I feel I was misled by Nationwide. If I had been told weeks ago I could have found another mortgage but it’s too late now. Also it’s impossible to talk to anyone at Nationwide and you are just given excuses which don’t help. I am completely gutted by the attitude of Nationwide. I have had accounts with Nationwide for approximately sixty years and this is how they now treat their customers.

Competitive fixed interest rates and no fees

Initially chosen as they offered mortgages for shared ownership properties. Good customer service etc and competitive low fixed interest rate with no fees for my first mortgage. Have recently used them again to borrow more to buy outright (due to council sell off to clear some of the national debt). Again, fixed interest rates were comparable with other leading well known/accredited British banks such as NatWest and therefore chose to continue to use them, as it was alot simpler to add on top of what I've already borrowed (minimal documents as British national citizen and quick decision tree call to confirm with approval certificate) rather than start afresh with some other company. I manage my mortgage online and have also found the telephone customer service good. The recent merger with Virgin money, one of the small number of home grown, respected, hard working, British billionaire business tycoons is also encouraging. I like my well earned British money to pay back into national British companies. Ultimately, I recommend using Nationwide for mortgages.

Beth at Nationwide has been an absolute STAR. We had some previous issues with the payment for a surveyor going through and Beth was so attentive and even got our mortgage application accepted WITHIN A WEEK!! We have recently been struggling with a slow solicitor and Beth has helped us to chase things up and has been replying to me outside of working hours. Give this woman a raise!!

Well after a very stressful time ...

Well after a very stressful time .... my husband and I spoke to two wonderful ladies, Janet Crabtree followed by Lucy Knight, what a wonderful experience, these two ladies are a credit to you Nationwide, I’ve never had such a professional, kind and understanding with any other Company, from practically crying down the phone this morning to Janet, then having talked to Lucy this evening all our problems were sorted out, we’ve been with Nationwide for many years and have never had a bad experience, but due to an error (totally our fault) we had our mortgage in principle but sadly forgot to make an appointment to get it confirmed, there’s three parties involved in our sale and purchase, we were the ones that were chasing everyone to suddenly realise we didn’t have our mortgage in place 😞 so it was us that we’re letting the side down, you not only saved our faces but got our mortgage approved so rapid, we’re so very grateful to these lovely ladies, thank you with all our hearts, we will always be with Nationwide and definitely will be singing your name from the rooftops!

They don't make 'em like Ron Greene anymore!

Ron Greene called me one day about two months ago. He said he thought we could make this mortgage work. For some reason, I did not hang up on this man. I am so thankful that I did not. Ron walked me through every document request, every new form, every new twist on getting to closing. I am not an easy man to work with. I raised my voice on the phone more than once but Ron hung in and calmly explained every number, every concern, every potential difficulty. And we made it. Ron Greene is a damn good man, who knows how to do his job and make it possible for all parties to come together at the end and all necessary papers are now signed. The refi is funded and a new phase of my life, my family's life begins. Ron Greene and I promise to share a beer someday in the city. They don't make 'em like Ron anymore. Five stars. John Hertzler

Very poor experience - 9 weeks and still no outcome

Very poor experience . It’s been 9 ( nine) weeks and we still haven’t got an outcome . It started with redundant and repetitive questions from the underwriters that needed 5 working days to each time to review the answer . It continued with an inexperienced surveyor that asked for structural engineer report that I had to pay . Only trivial cracks .( for comparison another lender that I got the mortgage from did a desktop valuation ). The report took 10 days to be reviewed . When we thought everything is ready they asked for proof of visa that we had sent 9 weeks before . We decided to go to another lender and got the mortgage offer within 2 weeks . Very disappointed with Nationwide - inefficient and time consuming communication systems and procedures . Avoid .
