MusicStack is a pleasant browsing place for record collectors, but when it comes to customer protection, let the buyer beware
Long before MusicStack, or even the Internet itself, I used to read a weekly trading paper that was in many ways the forerunner of eBay. You could buy and sell just about anything, within obvious boundaries, and when you opened it, the first thing you saw was a page of hints and advice to ensure a smooth transaction - don't part with your goods until the payment has cleared, that sort of thing - good solid guidance to help you spot, and avoid, the opportunists, the lazy, and the plain dishonest.
Most importantly, this wise advice ended by putting it all in perspective: always remember, it said, that most people are honest or nobody could do business. That is as true today as it was before we all went online, and so the key test for any selling forum is: what happens when your purchase does not go as planned, because of a bad seller? Most of us would say that you turn to the selling platform for buyer protection, and if you are trading on eBay with its impeccable standards, you would be right, but not all forums are alike, and this is where MusicStack fails the test. Here is an example:
I saw a re-issue of an album in a particular format I need not go into here, but to ensure that I knew what I would be getting if I bought it, I asked the seller very precise questions. Yes, said the seller, it was exactly what I wanted. No room for doubt there, so I placed my order, and guess what, when it arrived, it was most assuredly not what I had expressly asked for. Whether this was due to the seller being too lazy to check properly, or just dishonest, is for others to decide, but I naturally complained and asked to make a return. No returns, said the seller (there was no mention of that in the listings), but look at it this way, they added: if your own copy fails (whatever that meant) you now have a backup copy. This complacent response concluded with a single word: "Sorry." It is remarkable how, even in an online message, that word can be uttered in such a sneering manner that it drips with sarcasm.
Having seen the attitude of this utterly unpleasant seller, I naturally turned to MusicStack. As a seasoned user of eBay with its zero-tolerance of bad sellers, I expected MusicStack to display a similar standard of ethics in its policy towards the buyers whose payments fund its existence. I could describe the response I got in dreary detail, but I can convey it better by recalling one of the comic creations of Peter Sellers; the shady trader who would respond to any complaint with a Gallic shrug and say, "Nothing to do with me." Thus, MusicStack distanced itself from its own shady trader, and I then realized why the seller had answered my questions without checking the product first: just say it's what the customer is looking for, and if it is, fine, but if it's not, MusicStack is not going to do anything, so the only loser is the buyer. There is a reason why dishonest sellers do not trade on eBay.
So, browse the MusicStack listings as you will, and if your purchase goes to plan, post a glowing review and the owner will call you awesome, but never forget the advice of that veteran magazine, in words on rough newsprint that remain as prudent today in the digital age as they ever were, and ask yourself, what happens if I encounter people who are not honest? Who will protect me then? Sadly, the answer is, not MusicStack.

Angie Gold - A Lady Of Gold CD
This Angie Gold CD is extremely rare in the UK. Music Stack was literally the only place where I could find a copy and, thank you to my Russian friend, it was reasonably priced and in very nice condition.

Terrible!! Will never use music stack ever again!!
Spent 125 dollars on what was listed as a vinyl lp and what I received was a cd valued at maybe 20 dollars. The sellers communications are terrible and waited till the very last day of my dispute to have me send it back to Italy at my cost! I will never use Musi stack ever again!! As he blames music stack for the incorrect listing!!

I had a GREAT experience with MusicStack!
I had a GREAT experience with MusicStack! They carried a copy of a CD by a band I enjoy, All My Faith Lost, that had been almost impossible to find in the US. The price was reasonable, communication was great, and the shipping came promptly - all the way from France! I couldn't be more pleased.
