Subject: UX Improvement Suggestions for YouTube Music
Hello YouTube Music Team,
I hope you’re doing well. I’m a regular user of YouTube Music and I truly enjoy the platform. I wanted to share a few suggestions that I believe could improve the overall user experience and make the interface more intuitive and efficient.
Here are some ideas I’d like to propose:
Search within playlists:
Adding the ability to search for specific playlist names would make it much easier to navigate large collections.
Playlist thumbnails in lists:
Displaying playlist cover images on the left side (next to their names) would improve visual recognition and make browsing quicker.
Tap-to-play on song titles:
Allowing users to start playback by tapping directly on the song title (not just the artwork) would create a more user-friendly interaction.
Search when saving to playlists:
When adding a song to a playlist, including a search function for playlist names would make the process much faster—especially for users with many playlists.
Minimized now-playing view:
It would be great to have the album artwork appear in a smaller, corner-based mini-player (instead of only centered), allowing users to continue browsing playlists or the home screen while still seeing what’s currently playing.
I believe these changes could simplify navigation and enhance usability for many users like myself.
Thank you for your time and for continuously improving YouTube Music. I appreciate your consideration of these suggestions.
Best regards,
Merve
Out of control
Unbelievable. YT devides what i listen to. If i skip a sond i dont like it refuses to move forward. When i close the app it still plays.
Only way to stop it playing is to uninstall.
Can't believe its worse that amazon music.
Great value - mediocre brain
The UI is functional and clean, but not something that makes you stop and appreciate it.
Sound quality is a legitimate strong suit. It's suits comfortably above Spotify, though Apple Music still edges it out the top, IMO. For most listeners, tho, it's more than decent.
Algorithm... to often you're served with generic jam and mood compilations that feel like filler. Unless you know what exactly you want to hear, the discovery experience is underwhelming compared to Spotify and AM have mastered.
For what you get - especially the music quality and YT integration - the subscription is worth the money.
The music quality is good and I…
The music quality is good and I generally like the songs available on the platform. However, the app doesn’t feel very convenient to use. When I open it, I often have to manually search for something instead of getting what I actually want right away.
I prefer when the app creates large, personalized playlists based on my listening habits. Instead, it mostly suggests popular or mainstream playlists, which don’t always match my taste. Because of that, the experience feels less intuitive than it could be.
Overall, the music itself is great, but the user experience needs improvement.
Converted to save money 3/4 weeks ago
Converted to save money 3/4 weeks ago, will definitely be going back to Spotify, YT is not worth it. It pauses music all the time for no reason, does not make queues properly. If I set a song 'to play next' chances are it will never play. App does not play recommended songs when you finish a playlist, even when you've set it to do so. Also struggles with the shuffle setting, you have to ask it to shuffle EVERYTIME and its 50/50 whether it does or not. App is generally very glitchy and struggles to skip songs or play a full playlist. All in all, terrible experience with YT music - beware!

The account management is an absolute mess. Very difficult to change membership types.
Lots of weird regulations forced onto the UK e.g. coppa compliance which makes it impossible to listen to childrens music in a car
I don't use it often because the free…
I don't use it often because the free version has too many limitations. There are frequent pauses, and the app can freeze when switching tracks. The recommendations are also sometimes repetitive. Overall, it works, but it's inconvenient.
Creating play lists without permission
Creating play lists without permission, mixing my music with crap I don't even like . And that's the worst bit of it , trying to persuade you to listening crap you hate ..
Has potential...
Youtube music is pretty bad but its cheap if ur already have premium for videos casting doesnt work like thats for me the only problem you need to preload all music otherwise it doesnt load in anymore after cast, also shuffle before casting because shuffle doesnt work either. Sadly in my country (netherlands) you cannot have a duo premium subscription. And maybe a tip for the developers fix all of this above and if i want to add a song make the option that i can choose multiple playlists. Thanks
YOUTUBE MUSIC IS COMPLETELY USELESS.have spent almost a week working with…
I have spent almost a week working with YOUTUBE MUSIC to get my 1000 song long playlist to play, without their suggestions or repeats of the same songs I heard yesterday playing instead. On my playlist that I transferred there. Under the title MY LIKES. They're mine. They're not up for suggestions from you, YOUTUBE MUSIC. I have done all the suggested things by the "community" that they have directed me to for my questions, basically saying, we're supposed to just figure it out amongst ourselves and give them the money and energy spent doing so. What a rip off! What kind of service is this? An agitation service?? And why are there videos clips from interviews that I watched the night before in my playlist of music? And who are the people that want to listen to a song on loop? They must be vast because there are like 5 ways to do this! Why are ridiculous things so easy to do and the actual helpful ones hidden in some elusive toggle that may or may not be there. And when I searched it I was told that YOUTUBE MUSIC likes to hide it. Why?!? Lol. I had difficulty on 4 different platforms with this issue. Can we see the problem here? Do we want our lives on a loop? No we don't. None of Us. Time to fix the old turntable and tune out. BOOOOOO to you YOUTUBE MUSIC.
There's a lot of AI junk involved
The best music service
sucks won’t let me look up…
Flipping sucks won’t let me look up songs without having to close the app 100 times it’s ridiculous can’t even look at my downloads either it’s been like this for ages and I have no way of fixing it
Better than other music services but…
Better than other music services but random function isn't that good will often play 20 song's then repeat the same 20 song's, and although I pick original songs it will all of a sudden change them to poor copy's or even covers and it also pops in song's that are totally unrelated to the type of music I like
Good but overrated. Spotify beats it
Not bad.
But 2/5
Beacuse why whould you use this if you can use spotify?
Community contributions are the biggest hit!
It's great because it has community contributions, which others don't. That's the biggest plus.
I could not find some titles on it that I could on Apple Music, for instance.
Pricing is good because for one price you get 3 services (YouTube, Music, and YT Kids) w/o ads.
What I don't like is that their mobile clients don't have good sorting. You can't e.g. listen to songs from oldest added to a playlist, and I do hope they change this.
The shuffle function via the firestick…
The shuffle function via the firestick app is so basic and low function it's embarrassing. Plays the same handful of songs despite a playlist of 700 videos. Seemingly no effort being put into a resolution either.
Perfect but some chrome extensions required
I pay for it and it's great some chrome extensions are much needed for the web version as it has a very janky interface for example the volume slider is awful and a big company like google shouldn't rely on other people to improve their services
