I have 4 bags from modalu all of which I purchased from reputable high street stores and they are excellent quality and I have had no problems with any of them and they are still perfect years on. I think if you buy online you are clearly taking the chance they are fake.

Astonishing!!!!

I bought 2 bags online at modalu store on sale. When I received them (as I had a previous modalu bags) I notice it doesn't seem like leather, at least one of them. Contact them to make a return with no problems, got my refund and all set. But the question is 1 year later or less (now) , the other bag is peeling off where you can clearly seen it is not leather, just nothing more than plastic!!!!!!!!!! I was unsure year ago about the quality of the bags but I decided to kept one of them but if I had known I would have returned both. What a scam company! Never buy directly from them, I'm sure they got deals to make the same version in plastic!! I'm Never gonna buy from them ever again even John Lewis or wherever, they don't deserve our money!!!

Bag flaw

I wish I had read about Modalu before investing in a bag, I love the bag itself but the clasp literally crumbled and fell off well within a year of purchase. I’ve never seen this happen to a metal clasp before and can only conclude it was poorly made or brittle material. Reading through some reviews here it seems to be an issue with this company. Of course the website has zero information on what to do, and apparently there’s only a six month warranty (!) so I’ve had to source a company to fix it. Won’t be buying from them again.

Pleased with my order

Got what I paid for and had no issues. Customer Service helpful when I contacted them regarding one of my previous orders. Prompt delivery. Bags in great condition. I do prefer bags that were designed 3 years and more ago however. I think these are much more aesthetically pleasing. Im not a fan of more recent collections. too bulky and heavy. I have a number of Modalu's bags in croc (twiggy, Jasmine, pippa) and these are absolutelly gorgeous. Beautiful, well made bags. These bags just stand out.
I would love to see oldies being brought back.

Buy from a store not online

It would not even be one star! Customer service is a joke! Will be complaining to the boss of the boss of the boss. A premium brand that don't deliver premium service.

Online is a nightmare go into a store and buy.

I have received my order from Modalu

I have received my order from Modalu, and I have been conned.
Bought 3 items in the sale and all 3 of them are plastic, not one of them is leather.
As I have various other Modalu bags I am well aware what the leather used to be but now all i have is 3 plastic bags from this company.
I have tried to contact them via phone and couldn't talk to anyone and via email no response either.
This is a scam, they are selling cheap plastic versions of the leather bags sold in shops online during the sales.

Something Fishy

I was trying to purchase the Pippa small grab black croc leather on a special first time buyer discount on their website that came in with a free Erin red croc leather wallet. I must have spent more than half hour trying to get my payment through. But each time a message in red ink would say that my payment was unsuccessful and to please try another payment method. So funny cause I've used all the credit card I have and it all said the same thing when in fact, one of the credit card I tried to make a payment with - I've just used it to purchased on another website without any problem. I even called my credit card customer service to ensure nothing was up with my card. So perplexing...

Never buy direct from Modalu!

Similar experience to other reviewers. Bought handbag for my wife but it came with some bad cracks in the leather and so needed to return. Followed the instructions on the invoice that said "email us first if you have a faulty item" but never got any kind of useful response. Impossible to get through on the phone (voice messages go unreturned and most of the time I got a message saying "this mailbox is full" - presumably it's full with other unreturned voicemails!). In the end I got Visa to cancel my payment. Nice bags but NEVER buy direct from Modalu. Go to John Lewis or House of Fraser where you have decent customer service if it's needed.

Rivet problems

More rivet problems here with a Pippa bag. Cheeky customer service too. I won't buy from them again.

Bad bad

I have been trying to contact their customer service for over a month by telephone and email, SURPRISE; SURPRISE no response. This is the worst. Surprised they have lasted this long as company with such bad customer service. Maybe they don't need customers with the endorsement of the 'Pippa' bag?

Don't deserve one star

DO NOT BUY
I have used a Pippa for two summers when the rivet on the handle broke, I contacted them to ask about a repair, which I was happy to pay for.......no reply. I posted on their fanpage about someone contacting me.....no reply. I was subsequently blocked on fb, tried calling and get an answer machine. Eventually I contacted their PR firm, a reply in 10 minutes YAY she was appalled and will pass on to Modalu's marketing department, now you would think that at that point someone would have emailed me............24 hours later still no reply, DISGUSTED didn't even want to complain, irony is I own 4 decent handbags, 3 are Modalu's and I hate the mere thought of them now

Terrible!

My husband bought me a Modalu Erin Tote costing 229 pounds, for Christmas. A few months later one side had collapsed and it looked like a 1.99 bargain basement buy. I stopped using it as it was embarrassing and looked awful. My husband told me to take it back so when I got the opportunity I went back happy that it was well under a year since purchase. The small shop owners were fantastic and agreed it wasn't right and so sent it back. The response from Modalu was that it was simply wear and tear and they only give a 6 month warranty. This bag looked good for approx 2 months. The leather chipped off the handles and it truly looked shocking. I have bags from Coach, Tula, even M&S that look fab after more than 7 years. Really shocked at the response from a company that charges 229 pounds for a bag and is happy to say that it is only expected to last a few months! Shocking!!! and from a British company! (although bags are made in India) The small shop owners have said that because they are not happy they will refund me but this is out of their own pockets which I obviously feel terrible about. I would NEVER buy a Modalu bag again.

Non-existing customer service

I recently bought a Modalu Flora backpack on sale from John Lewis. The backpack kept opening and neither of the 2 side clasps and the magnetic one on the front worked properly. It opened unexpectedly on the train, in the street, anyone could take out of it my purse, phone. My husband tried to help by magnetizing the clasp, unfortunately he completely demagnetized it. I wrote to Modalu asking for their help with the claps to work properly as in the first instance they did not work.
This is their response:

...When you buy an item from a shop, a contract of sale between yourself and the retailer starts. Shoppers' rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) are against the retailer, and so you must make any claim against the retailer.

If an item is faulty the standard 14/28 return period does not apply, also if you have lost your receipt you are able to use a bank statement/credit card statement....

Basically a standard response, not relevant and simply telling me to get lost because it was not their responsibility....Fascinating since they manufacture this backpack faulty and priced it at shockingly high £200...I bought it for it £100 on sale and still think it was a very bad spent money. I could 've got any high street brand for a quarter of this price.
I wrote back expressing my disappointment as i did not ask for the money back or a new backpack. I simply wanted help with the magnet clasp. No one ever responded back!

Very Poor/No Customer Service! None!

Would give ZERO If the option was there!

am so annoyed, I purchased a bag from the Modalu website, I have a few other Modalu bags & I have had no problems what so ever, however on this occasion when my bag arrived it came with no dust bag or authenticity card, all my other bags have come with both. I tried contacting them numerous times by phone to query my complaint & was unable to get through the phone rang twice & went straight to answe phone, I have also contacted them twice via email & it's been over a week now & i have still had no reply! This is disgusting customer service & I don't think any paying customer should be treated like this it's not like these bags are cheap, but I can't say the same for the customer services, sorry fictional customer services they is. I'm seriously questioning on whether to buy from this site again, in fact I will not be purchasing via their website. I mean if they can't simply answer emails or phone calls then why should I give them my money!
To be honest you can but the bags cheaper on other reputable websites with real customer service.

Very unhappy

This was my fourth purchase from modalu.com. I had been very happy with my previous purchases but not this time - this time everything was disappointing.

It seems that when there is a sale on all bets are off. Despatch was slow. Communication was lacking. The courier they used was the appalling Yodel (and they charged me £3.95 for the privilege) which meant I ended up waiting in for two days for the delivery. They do not reply to emails and the customer care number sends you straight to answering machine.

When the bag I ordered arrived I was very disappointed. Unlike most of their lovely soft leather bags this one was vinyl not leather, a nasty hard cheap looking vinyl with uncomfortable handles. On modalu.com the bag looks a lovely warm beige colour but in reality it is a hideous diarrhitic greeny beige, really horrible. I appreciate that colours look different on different monitors but I feel the photos of this bag on the website are misleading. I would never have purchased a bag that colour.

I was very disappointed and obviously I wished to return the bag. It seems unfair then that during sale times the customer has to fork out again for return postage of a fairly heavy, bulky item. I managed to modify the box to get it down to small parcel size and minimise postage costs but even so this has cost me another £3.90 on top of the original postage charge - to return a larger or more expensive bag or to send first class would cost a lot more. Surely this only serves to discourage customers from taking a chance on ordering a bag online to see if they like it in the flesh.

So at the end of the day I am out of pocket nearly £8 with nothing to show for it other than two days wasted waiting in for a delivery and the inconvenience of having to take a parcel to the post office.

Not happy.
