Minehut has gone in only 2 years from probably the best free server hosting company to the worst. Free servers were what this whole company was based around, however they limit the total playtime and force you to pay them money to be able to play on the server. You have to pay to download your world, you have to pay to do practically anything besides play and start the server. The only good experiences I had with Minehut is when they were a small and wholesome company and didn't put an ad in your way before you do any activity on your server. Just don't ever use it. You are far better off using an actually decent free host like Aternos or running a server yourself.

dont use minehut, worst sever hosting ever...
theyve gone from a wholesome serverhosting business to a greedy moneyhungry business... you can play for 2 hours then you need to upgrade your server plan... worst serverhosting you can find

TLDR;
Doing anything on the website to configure things for a modpack is impossible to do for a server that's being paid to keep up. Also the lack of help from the mods/staff in the discord server from others who faced a similar issue.
Prior to all of this, I made sure the modpack which is Fabric 1.20.1 function and ran smoothly + optimizing it before setting it up in Minehut, keep in mind this was a PAID server we were trying to get to work. Originally we wanted to host a Forge 1.20.1 server, however for some reason they do not have the most updated version for forge so we had to make a new modpack in order to host a server in Minehut. My friend and I can't deal with this hassle anymore from working on this for 3 days straight with barely any progress being done when the modpack itself works just fine.
Here's the list of problems that made us give up on hosting our server through Minehut:
1) The design of the website. Simply how clicking on the logo or "My Servers" logs you out randomly, constantly closing your server when you're trying to configure it, and how slow it is. Each time this happens we had to manually log back in and open the server back up just to add/remove mods. The worst part is you can't even put all the mods inside of the folder, you have to INDIVIDUALLY add in mods, in this case we have 270 files inside our modpack.
2) The logs, it gives us multiple errors of mods which is fine since we can just remove them, until half the mods had removed. When those mods were removed, the server suddenly cannot start up because of an error that has nothing to do with a mod that is causing an issue. This is actually our THIRD TIME we used Minehut to host server which we paid for those servers, the last two were also modded. What was weird is most of the mods we used in the past are included in this modpack, and yet Minehut now is saying the mods are an issue and can't start because of it- we need to remove it even though it was working back then when we hosts two server with those modpacks?? So why is there an error now when it worked before?
3) Trying to join the Minehut server in Minecraft. Every time we remove a mod and there's no known errors, we obviously would join the server itself to see what else is the issue or if it finally works, yet when we do the error code that appears preventing us from joining the world says absolutely nothing about what is causing an error. Even looking back on the logs sometimes doesn't give us an exact clue what could be causing an issue, sometimes it tells us which mod causes the issue straight up and other time it doesn't. And again, IT DOES NOT HELP WHEN MINEHUT KEEPS SHUTTING DOWN THE SERVER FOR NO REASON, let us configure the server WITHOUT HAVING THE SERVER ACTIVE. It's such a poor design to have us constantly open it over and over just to make small changes. it's also a huge waste of time, doing a simple task of configuring files for a server is literally impossible when you have to deal with these constant issues that become so frustrating to deal with.
Just seeing how Minehut is now from their new changes and how free server are now being limited to 2-4 hours playtime is truly sad to see. We have played on free servers before this change was ever made and from how good our experience was back then we decided to pay for servers twice until up to this point. We were planning to do an annual payment for our server, but just in case we started with a monthly plan first. Now imagine if we did waste our money for an annual plan for a server that couldn't even work.
Before mentioning it to us, we did go to the discord server to check out if anyone faced a similar issue, which they did and yet no one responded to them with a solution, most posts in the poll in the channel "ask for help" goes unnoticed very often with. Even if we open a poll to get help, there's a bigger chance of it being ignored than getting an any form of help that could solve our problem.
There's a reason why people have been complaining about how bad Minehut got over the past 8 months. Keep in mind one of your volunteer moderator on discord said "it's been over half a year and youre all still complaining", really not that supportive are they for others who faced issues with the company?

It was great at first, but they limited our server time so we could only do like 2 hours, and it was very slow sometimes. I tried to download the world to move it to realms, but you can only download one file at a time, so I spent like 3 hours downloading every file so we could continue to play on the world

Minehut is a great example of a project that once started as a little thing and then turned into something huge, when they cared about people. However, throughout the years, as everything has changed, they started putting greed over their community. Don't host your stuff at Minehut, as you're quite literally getting robbed with their prices. Get something better for the same amount of money you're paying at Minehut.

I'm going to be honest, I've been using Minehut for many years. They never failed me and always exceeded my expectations. However, recently I returned to a disrespectful and disappointing server. The time limit is horrendous and unreasonable now, and adding a paywall to world downloads is just disappointing. Not to mention the clear robotic replies to ratings similar to this one: "We're sorry to hear that you are unhappy with our free server plan changes. Hosting free servers is very expensive for us as a business and we have had to add limits to them in order to continue providing a hosting service for our users."
I'm going to move to a different server, I'll see you all there.

This server hosting sucks. The daily limit is 4 hours THAT'S NOTHING. Every time someone complains about it they say: Free server hosting costs a lot of money. That's true but other server hosters can make good free plans still. I think Minehut should have bankcrupt cuz they now have to make every free plan bad just to stay alive. I think 1 star review is very reasonable. I played on Minehut in 2021 and it was good even better than Aternos. It was a very enjoyable server full of updated add-ons. Now those add-ons are outdated and don't work on the newest versions. That was minehuts best time. Now it's a piece of trash that shouldnt exist. And I do say this as someone who liked it a lot. Now I can't say that.

They added a playtime limit of only 4 hours per day and lock downloading your world behind a paywall.

Reply from Minehut
Since the new update you only get less than 6 hours of playtime each day. And You can't download your world anymore. I hate it!!!

I start up a PAID server, and it puts me in QUEUE, then after it gets out QUEUE and it says starting than after 3 minutes it just stops! Minehut is terrible now days

I've had a Minehut server for a while and have decided I wanted to switch to a different server host, so I wanted to download my world to put it on a different server just to realize I can't do it anymore with the free plan. This is anti-competitive behavior, to force people to pay to get their worlds off the platform because they prevent users from switching to a different server host. I had to use a world downloader to get it off. I would recommend to stay away from it and use self hosted servers instead if you wanna just play with friends. Running a public server with a free host is probably a bad idea anyway.

Minehut used to be a good free server host, and I'd always use it. But recently, they've been starting to treat free users horribly. First, they added an 8 hour time limit. I was fine with that. But then they changed it to 4 hours. Then 2 hours. And then, when I went to switch my server to anything other than this junk, they don't even let you download multiple files at once!
Edit: after getting one of Minehut's blatantly copy + pasted replies, I just have one thing to say: Let us switch server hosts. What you guys are doing with the "free users can only download one file" thing is messed up and just to keep people like me on Minehut. If I'd known Minehut would become this horrible, I'd never have made a server on there. I want this changed, before I delete my servers and leave Minehut for good.

I am writing this review with immense disappointment and frustration after my experience with Minehut's customer service, or the total lack thereof. Having faced a serious issue of fraud on their platform, I reached out to Minehut's support team not once, but twice, with detailed emails outlining the misuse of my account and server, backed by concrete evidence and screenshots. To my dismay, both of these critical communications have been met with what can only be described as a disheartening silence.
Understanding the constraints of the holiday season, I expected some delay. However, what is inexcusable is the complete absence of any form of acknowledgement or response, even after their official business hours resumed. Minehut claimed that some agents would be available during the holidays, yet it appears this was not the case, at least in my experience.
This lack of response has not only left me in a state of unresolved distress concerning the fraudulent activities on my account but also questions the credibility and reliability of Minehut's customer support system. What value does a support team hold if it fails to respond to urgent and significant issues like fraud and breach of terms of service? The situation raises serious concerns about the platform's commitment to its users' security and well-being.
Minehut's disregard for a situation involving financial loss and intellectual property theft is not just disappointing but alarming. It reflects poorly on their operational ethics and customer service standards. One would expect a platform of Minehut's stature to be more attentive and responsive, especially in matters that directly impact their users' interests and rights.
In conclusion, my experience with Minehut's customer service has been nothing short of a nightmare. It's a stark warning to current and potential users about the potential challenges they might face should they ever need urgent support. I sincerely hope that no other user has to go through the ordeal I am currently facing, and that Minehut takes immediate steps to address these glaring deficiencies in their customer support system.

You could make access to the files after the time limit that they dont need to wait 10 hours to downlaod their world to maybe falix, godlike or aternos or install plugins. Without the world if you want to play you can't even use singleplayer or build the spawn or something.
And you could add join requests that you can send them to friends and if they click them they join your server.
If you say about the cost what if you use external drives and only one server that manages the files

Reply from Minehut
This hosting service single-handedly is why I prefer Bedrock Edition over Java Edition. I can't even join servers I made! Please, don't use this. I wasted a significant portion of my day with this. How are you guys not bankrupt yet!? An average rating of just 2.7/5 AND crappy services.
