We are selling our apartment and moving…

We are selling our apartment and moving from New York to Minneapolis, so we were looking for a moving company to transport our belongings and furniture. A man named Ryan (neither he nor any other company employees ever provided a last name) from Midland Van Lines called us; he claimed they were a licensed company—unlike many others—and that they could be trusted. He asked us to send photos of the furniture and items we intended to ship. I sent him everything in great detail, and he estimated the delivery cost at $4,300, requiring a $1,500 deposit; he assured us that once the deposit was paid, we would be free to reschedule our move-out date to any other day or month. I told him the price was acceptable, and he sent over a contract, which I signed—though even then, doubts began to creep in, as the company's email address was not a professional business account linked to their official website, but rather a standard personal Gmail address. I sent them the deposit via Zelle, and we agreed upon a schedule. However, our departure from the apartment was delayed by two weeks. Nine days before the scheduled move-out date, I called Ryan to notify him of the change; the person who answered the phone told me that Ryan was unavailable—and that they didn't know when, or even if, he would ever return—and asked what I wanted. I explained that I was a client of theirs, that I had paid a deposit, and that I needed to reschedule my move-out date by two weeks. They replied, "No problem," but asked me to send photos of the furniture and items. When I informed them that I had already sent everything to Ryan, the employee I was speaking with claimed that there were absolutely no photos—nor any record of a delivery price estimate—in their files. When I forwarded them my entire email correspondence with Ryan, including all the photos, they told me—quite predictably—that the cost of shipping those items could not possibly be $4,500; rather, it would be a minimum of $8,500—if not $10,000. Naturally, I was outraged and told them that I was canceling our contract. They then informed me that they would not refund my deposit because—according to their website (though not the contract itself)—if a cancellation occurs less than 10 days in advance, the deposit is non-refundable; and, predictably, they did not return it. They are nothing but common crooks; if you don't want to lose your money, never get involved with this sham of a company.

Honestly if I could give 0 stars I…

Honestly if I could give 0 stars I would. This company is AWFUL and so disrespectful, please do NOT use them. They refused to give us copies of our paperwork, then took a deposit and picked up our stuff. Once they picked it up they tripled the fee and held our stuff hostage. They lied about the total cubic feet and when we provided documentation they just say they will have someone look into it and you can get a refund later. Our quote went from $6,000 to well over $18,500 for our move. When we needed our stuff delivered they claimed they did not know where it was for over two weeks! Thankfully we got the drivers info at pickup and reached out to him directly. They will only accept cash after the initial payments and will NOT give you a receipt for payments, a inventory list or copies of your bill of lading which is all needed to file a claim for overcharge and broken items. They broke (3 tv's, entire bedroom set, table, chairs, bookshelves, $6,000 sofa, plus a lot more an they refuse to do anything. When they give you the info to file your claim be prepared to jump through hoops. 6 months after you file they will change companies and you will have to start over with a new one. The new company will ask you for documents Midlandvanlines refuses to provide. Then they will claim that you are passed you allowed time to get documents and they no longer have records available. This is the WORST moving company and they are crooks! You will never get a call back and they will never do what they say they will. Please save yourself the stress, irritation, frustration and thousands of dollars and use anyone else but this company!.

Avoid this company at all costs!!!!

I only gave them 1 star because I had to. Avoid this company at all costs!!!!They will give you a blind quote over the phone purposely leave me things out so they can charge you more when they come pick up your stuff. For example, I told them I had two beds one queen and one king. When they got there to move my property, they called me stating that I didn’t tell them that I had a headboard and a boxsprings. I only told them about the mattress. How would I know as the customer that I need to break down every piece of a bed and the representative did not ask me. So that’s one of the ways that they get more money out of you when they go pick up your items. They stating that those items were not on the list. However I did put 12 boxes on the quote but ,told me they can only take a couple boxes because I was over my cubic feet limit. How would I be over my cubic feet if that’s what you quoted me for. So they pick and choose when they want to go off the quote. Also, when the mover arrived there to pick up my items, they said that I underbid and they tried to charge me an additional $3500.00 to move my items . I refused. These people are crooks. They have terrible customer service. I tried to address my concerns with the manager Leslie. Leslie was very unprofessional, she had a nasty attitude. She was very, very rude. I don’t know how they are number one on google. But what I didn’t check is the reviews on Reddit, which are terrible! Please beware of majorities of moving companies because they will give you a blind quote over phone and get to your home and charge you triple the price because they know that you want your stuff moved or you might be in a situation where you can’t do nothing but pay them. I learned the best thing to do is find a company they can go actually look at your items so they can give you an accurate quote and no surprises on moving day. You’ve
been warned!!

Do NOT use this company

Do NOT use this company! They say they use their own trucks for better control. Not true. Subcontractors were used and they even rented trucks. They will not let you talk to a manager. They “have to put a ticket” in and say they’ll call back. Never happens. They made me request to speak to a manager in writing via email. Got the canned response, but never got to talk to a manager for over a month!

We specifically called to move a safe and a few family heirlooms. We paid extra for the safe. Their “moving professionals” told me it was impossible to move the safe when they got there. I had to tell them how to do it! Our family heirlooms were one-of-kind items that they broke, unwrapped and threw the broken pieces inside, and wrapped them back up! They apparently tried to pry open the sides of a brand new trunk. Thank goodness we had a lock on it. Terrible moving service. Terrible customer service. Terrible communication. They don’t even deserve 1 star! Very deceptive marketing. I saw positive reviews with a 4.9 rating in, come to find out, their paid ads. Oh how I wish I had looked at google reviews first.

The worst experience…

As someone else said if I could choose zero stars I would! I’ve moved at least 15 times in my life and this is absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had. Someone else mentioned lie after lie which is absolutely my experience as well. The price has gone up 3 to 4 times since signing and placing a deposit; they are not family owned. It’s all a hoax to steer you away from other reputable moving companies. The customer service is zero, they were supposed to bring wardrobes, boxes, and wrapping items. They brought none and asked me if I had boxes when they arrived! They placed all of my business attire and gowns in boxes that you would normally move kitchen items in.
I was told that four Movers would be coming and three arrived.
I can go on and on, but the bottom line is stay away from this company they’re horrible, there’s no integrity no customer service and it’s all the money game to them.

This email to Tom Segura of Midland Van…

This email to Tom Segura of Midland Van Lines pretty much sums up their business ethics…

“Tom,
It’s pretty genius, but I never heard of it - change order moving service? The problem is you didn’t specify the right sized truck. Matter of fact you weren’t even close. I had to rent a 15x10 U-Haul today and loaded to it to the gills with my wife which is 52 like me. You could have made even more money? Moving forward try to be better at your job for the sake of considering other humans. I work in the commercial roofing industry as a material salesman and GC and I treat my customers like gold and never do business with contractors who play the change order game. In summary, be a better person or maybe go work for a company that has higher standards and learn what that looks like.”

Additionally, at delivery we had multiple items that were damaged and missing.

Beware

Beware: Bait and Switch. I signed a binding contract to move from one state to another. A week before the move, they texted me at 10.24 pm on a Friday night. Then called me the following day at 3.25 pm demanding an increase of up to $7,000. When I refused to be extorted and cancelled, they stopped answering emails and phone calls. They have withheld my deposit. I have filed with the NY Attorney General at this time. Do not trust their "binding" estimates, they will wait until you are vulnerable to hike the price by thousands.

Run as fast as you can from this…

Run as fast as you can from this company! Do NOT use their services. Buyer beware: Their sales reps were top notch but once the down payment was made you never heard from them again nor could you reach them. That already should tell you something. Also, I am writing this review 9 months after our move as my goal is to share this review with as many outlets as possible to hopefully help others avoid the same pain we experienced. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Pricing was double the quote and our quote was based on us giving them a detailed inventory list. Once down payment was made we had to chase them for the supposed “quality control call” that was to take place several days before the pickup date. This call also served the anppare purpose of finalizing your inventory list upon which they plan their space on the truck and upon which your total cost is based. Even after that was done, we heard nothing from the dispatcher the morning of. Our move took place in June which we understand is peak season for household moving companies. As a 35 year veteran of international shipping, I know a thing or two about moving things and fully appreciate what peak season is about and how no company can staff for it. As a result I thought I exhibited lots of patience with this company until their behavior bordered on criminal. They promised us delivery within a certain range and when that passed and I heard nothing I became concerned so I called but could not get past a call center person who simply repeated that someone will call me. I asked who but no names were given. After this went on for some days I got angry and threatened legal action and demanded a manager. Only then did I get that person but they too had no info for me telling me they had to wait on the dispatcher to call them - meanwhile said dispatcher was a subcontractor who they had little control over. On top of that their supervisor or manager was rude. I can go on but to keep this concise, when the move in finally was being arranged on the day of the dispatcher told me we owed more money and unless we paid he couldn’t deliver!!! I explained the amount requested was already paid at pickup. As dispatcher did not have access to the system to confirm this he held firm telling me if in fact we paid again it would be reimbursed. At this point I was beyond angry and demanded to speak with the owner of Midland figuring any decent owner would be willing to speak with an angry client and make matters right. Dispatcher gave me all kinds of excuses- it’s the weekend, etc but even refused to give me the owners name or cell phone number. In the end we had no choice but to send the money via Zelle which we did get refunded the following week. After it was all said and done we had some damages and breakages for which we filed a small claim for $500. We self packed the goods and as a 35 year shipping industry veteran we packed our items professionally. Some glasses broke which we know could happen but some furniture pieces which midland packed were damaged. Guess what? We never once received an acknowledgment of our claim much less a settlement offer. With all the fine print on their bill of lading I did not expect them to admit liability much less offer us money. I filed the claim mainly to annoy them and force them to work some more on my case which in the end, they simply walked away from without the decency of acknowledgment. This was the single worst experience I have ever had in my life and I counsel anyone considering a move with midland van lines to definitely find another company to work with. I understand household moves never go flawlessly but to have such a lack of customer service and caring is something I have never experienced in my life. This experience makes dealing with your cable provider or cell phone provider look like a joy. Do yourself a favor and Stay away from Midland Van Lines at all costs.

They are dishonest from the beginning…

They are dishonest from the beginning until the end.
The word incompetence does not do them justice.
They don't want to speak to you or respond to your questions.

Stay away from them. They tell you one person will handle communication for your whole move and then you have to deal with multiple people.

No one has the ability to give a straight answer. If you ask who can answer the question, they say no one.

**Don’t work with them — they are a scam. Look at all the terrible reviews before hiring this company.**

This was **the worst moving experience I have ever had**.

- The company **fraudulently locked me into a lower rate** of about $5,000 based on a phone inventory, only to inflate the charges later. I was forced to pay extra money for cubic feet **before pickup, at pickup, and again at delivery**.
- The pickup took **over 14 hours** because they showed up with a small truck and only one woman doing all the disassembly and loading. She told me the other workers simply didn’t show up. My family was stuck dealing with this from **8:30 AM to 10:00 PM**.
- Customer service was **rude, unclear, and completely unhelpful**. I had to talk to multiple people just to give my first available date, and they repeatedly miscommunicated the delivery estimate.
- They **damaged furniture, crushed boxes, lost items**, and even delivered **boxes and furniture parts belonging to other customers**—which I still have. I notified their customer service, but those customers still can’t recover their belongings.
- My experience matches **hundreds of other terrible reviews** describing the same predatory pattern: lure customers with a low rate, then use pressure and threats to force extra payments.

A company that operates like this **should not have a license to operate**.

Much like everyone else's reviews I…

Much like everyone else's reviews I feel that Midland has been deceitful and exploitative. They quoted us 7k to move from AZ to FL with lots of discounts and military pricing. Week of moving they jumped to 12k and told us it was due to the amount of belongings. Day before they jumped to 18k and told us they wouldn't be able to move our things that day due to their truck breaking down. They told us to make up for it they would guarantee a straight through delivery. That was January 16th. It is now february 2nd and they have stated they will deliver our belongings tomorrow. I have watched my things via airtag bounce all over Texas as they did load after load rather than delivering our things, at one point even going about 7 hours away from us before back tracking. No one gave us a straight answer about when we would be delivered or be honest about why all of our "discounts" seemed to disappear. They left us without our belongings with 2 infant children and raked us for more money at the last possible minute. Very shady business dealings all around and I highly suggest not using their services.

My 83 & 86 year old parents experience

My parents are 83 & 86 and relocated from Chester County, PA to Bonita Springs, FL. After speaking with Tim Segura, they had placed complete faith in the the company. Tim had scheduled a pick up date for 1/14th. On 1/11, my mother received a call from Leo stating they were going to pick up the following day, 1/12. He assured her saying that they would take care of everything, when she explained they weren’t ready. This put them out several days, they did not have beds to sleep in, etc.

The packers in PA were very nice and worked hard, however, their packing of some items were not packed carefully. They had not wrapped fragile items in bubble wrap and placed them in boxes with furniture such as side tables or with other fragile items, such as an antique china doll and oriental vases. Wardrobe boxes had clothes thrown in with furniture and clothes were put in drawers, when my parents were instructed to empty drawers. Luckily, only 3 items were broken, a frame, mirror & lamp.

I signed the contract and stated on the agreed price. However, when the driver arrived this was not the case.

Prior to delivery,Leo spoke with management and everything was ok to be delivered.

My mother received a call saying he wanted an additional $300 because of the distance to elevator. I can assure you that the distance to the elevator and apartment were much closer than their last community. Then, the driver said he wanted more than $700 because the truck was not going to fit. This is a blatant lie, as the community continually has movers and trucks are able to fit. The employee asked to be driven to the truck to see if it could fit and director followed the driver to the truck, again, to see if the truck was too large for the commmunity. The driver was completely RUDE, NASTY and disrespectful to the Director, telling him to shut his mouth and to my mother, as well. How does a price go up from $300, to over $700 and then Leo only backed down to $150 because  management had gotten involved?!

The movers were there on a Friday night from 5-10, which is completely ridiculous, especially with senior citizens. The driver would bark orders at my mother. They broke a sign holder in the elevator. They set up the beds, however, did not put tv on its stand, as the stand was not packed with tv. The driver instructed my mother to call the company and they would send some over to assemble, since they were there all the time.

I called the 303 number this afternoon, asking to speak with Thomas Segura. I was told he was on the phone. I spoke with Sandra and told her the situation, while she apologized and said she would write up a ticket and have a supervisor call me, she also said she highly doubts anyone is going to come back to put the tv together. Sandra could not tell me when someone would call me back & no one ever did.

I called Leo and he is just a nasty man. He told me that the movers in PA did not pack me. He told me to check my language.  He would not let me speak, he was yelling at me and hung up on me.This is how Midland Van Lines does business!

Leo is liar and scammer that likes to take advantage of seniors, which is why they want cash for balances.

I called the 303 number after speaking with Leo. Janette was lovely, apologized and asked me to document everything to ensure that corporate knows of the situation.

The driver and Leo need to be fired! I told Leo that this is bad business and that if I tell two people and they tell two people, Midway will get a bad reputation, that many people move from PA to FL. His response, “really? I didn’t know, thank you for letting me know people move every day.” He was very condescending.   I also let him know that the community was a large corporation , who is now involved and have attorneys that were ready to get involved and will ensure that no one will ever use Midland. He hung up on me a 2nd time. I called him back and he said I am harassing him and dared to ask me what kind of a professional am I?

This company is dishonest, disrespectful, unprofessional, scam artists. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

The initial call to set everything waa…

The initial call to set everything waa very professional and detailed. EVERYTHING after was a nightmare. No communication, they lie about when they will deliver your furniture, they use 3rd party contractors to do all their work and because of that all the complaints with the BBB have a common reply, we have no record of this customer. They took 3 months to delivee our furniture, when calling them to get an update they always transfer you to dispatch who rarely answer the phone and when they do theh flat out lie to you. I could go on and on an on, bottom line NEVER use this company. Avoid at all costs. I cant even begin to tell you how stressed we were. I contacted a lawyer to try and file a class action lawsuit and had it been another month I would have called the Colorado Bereau of Investigations especially aftee reading everyone elses responses as I really thought they had scammed us for $ and took our furniture.

Hidden Fee's

There should be negative star(s) added…

There should be negative star(s) added to customers experience for MIDLAND Van Lines. Our experience was heartbreaking! A NEGATIVE 5 (-5) We did not know this company was a broker and would farm out our move to the lowest bidder, BACKUP Movers LLC out of Chicago, IL. Both companies flat out lied to us. You can't file a claim if you can't get through to the company and, or, they are no longer associated with movingclaims.net. At this point, I'm guessing they are out of business. Our new large screen TV in the original box, monitors, several area rugs, large mirrors, etc., etc., the movers packed, never arrived. Two (2) boxes that do not belong to us, did arrive. (I'm Happy to send them to the correct owner???) In addition, 5 out of 6 wardrobe boxes were absolutely crushed in half. Expensive wooden table(s) were wrapped with plastic and scratched beyond belief. Yes, that's right. Only a couple of moving blanket(s). They used plastic wrap. The movers ripped off the marble top of my buffet, leaving a big hole in the wood. The black and yellow tubs we purchased from Home Depot for the move, very strong, were cracked, some were smashed, and a few arrived in one piece. (We had over 350 boxes.) We moved from Illinois to Florida, and this is how we started our retirement life. There are too many terrible issues to list everything. Reviewing legal action.
A moving contract does not give people the right to steel or damage personal property. It seems like a big SCAM!

I loaded 100 cu. ft. onto their truck and paid for the minimum 300 cu. ft. Once loaded they demanded an additional $1,250 claiming I had 500 cu. ft. on their truck. When asked to measure and verify Midland refused. They are dishonest thiefs. Never use a company that won't use a credit card!!!

For us this was a long distance move…

For us this was a long distance move from South Carolina to Austin, Texas. The contents were "packed" and them moved to a climate controlled storage facility to be kept there until a home could be purchased and arrangements could be made to transfer the belongings to the new digs.
During the packing, outwardly it seems that things were a little bit hurried. It took over a month for us to be notified that the van had arrived in Austin, to be unloaded.
The first thing I noticed was that the contents were not in the truck which they had been loaded into. As things were unloaded, many of the boxes had been crushed or were deformed significantly. I had two storage units side by side, two 10x10s instead of a 10x20 which actually worked out better. I had most of the boxes loaded into one of the units and then the larger furniture items into the other unit. We had NO appliances at all. No fridge, washer or dryer etc. So this should have been an easy move.
As the boxes began to come off the truck, there were several wardrobe boxes that items had just been dumped into the box, i.e. a pressure washer, clothing, towels battery chargers for lawn equipment, with no care given to protect anything from rough treatment or rubbing against each other.
We have a set of 6 chairs, valued at over $5000 for the set. The chairs were flipped over on top of each other and then tape with packing tape, wood arms rubbing against each other.
Tiffany lamp shades that were thrown into a box along with other items that wore against the metal skeleton.
We are still unpacking as it seems that there was no rhyme or reason to the way kitchen dishes were packed into a box with kitchen cleaning supplies.
I guess that one thing that really bothers me is that there is no one to take responsibility for damaged items. Midland is a contractor that will hire any jake-leg crew to move your stuff, and there is no continuity or chain of possession to figure out who broke what.
Never, never use this mover.

If I could give negative stars I would

If I could give negative stars I would.
Close to a year and a half ago I was looking around, doing some price comparison on moving options. I put my number in to get a quote to see what price might look like. Big mistake.
Soon after my moving plans got canceled as I explained over and over again to the representatives that kept calling. Months passed and just ignoring the calls because irksome because they happened so much. I BEGGED representatives to take me off the list and somehow blocked 3 different numbers calling me about midland vans. The calls continued and I reached out over email, telling them to take me off all call lists as I am not moving and do not plan to move. No response. Now they call me 3x a week and hang up before I can answer and tell them off- it is incredibly irritating. Today they called and immediately hung up twice in 3 minutes. I called back and was rather short, saying I was beyond frustrated and demanding the removal of my phone number, to which representative told me she has no control over and promptly hung up. I’m losing my mind. Do not give them your contact even for a quick quote. This is my personal hell.

Sales Practices Very deceiving

I did not find the Midland "MO" to be any different than the discount brokers that I avoided. The day they loaded the truck I needed to pay $350 for tape to secure protective blankets. Regardless of the fact I was told by "sales" that I would only pay for volume shipped there were no provisions or means to collect for the smaller shipment. My original driver agreed to a volume of 85 cuft ($550) less than the estimate but despite my repeated efforts there was no credit.
I had reviewed my address and location on google earth with "sales" and was told that delivery should be no problem. 2 days before delivery I was told it would cost an additional $500 for a shuttle because they could not access with their 80' tractor and trailer. Seriously, how many residential locations can they access with an 80' rig.
Access to administration was impossible once pickup was completed.
Stay away!!!
