Avoid MEO at all costs – Scam company

MEO is hands down the worst telecom company I’ve ever dealt with. I canceled my service in April 2024, following every absurd step they required—sending a physical paper form by mail, including a copy of my passport, and even receiving confirmation from their own staff.

Yet, months later, they are still charging me. No service, no contract, just random invoices. And the best part? You cannot reach them.

No email support
No online chat
No proper contact form
The only option is calling their overpriced support line and wasting hours
If you try to cancel, they’ll ignore you, send you in circles, and hope you give up and keep paying. It’s a deliberate scam.

If you value your money and sanity, stay far away from MEO. Once you try to leave, they will turn into a nightmare you can’t escape.

Quite simply, the worst company I have dealt with in my lifetime.

Quite simply, the worst company I have dealt with in my lifetime.

If you are moving to Portugal, do your research about MEO beforehand. You will see so many stories about them online and there are other operators in the field.

Their 'Customer Service' is absolutely non-existent and be very, very careful with any contract they try and sell you. They will constantly refer you ringing 16200 who will keep you on hold for ages, then tell you someone will ring you back and that will be the last you will hear from them.

If I could use zero

If I could use zero, I would go for it. This company manager contacted me and advised me to improve my contract, after the call she contacted me from her personal number and discussed two days all the details. Then sent the link to sign the new contract. The details were to close 3 previous contracts and create 1 new one. After one month I realized that now I had 2 contracts and had to pay both. 2 home internets on one address. All the communication was recorded only on the first call and they don't accept other proofs. This is an awful experience and a loss of money. The company is a bunch of thieves with the biggest prices.

Reply to the reply: I spent two full days talking with your support, visited your shops several times, and so on. I don't want to spend my time on this communication that leads to nowhere. All of this cost me around 100-200 euros lost and 2 days of communication. Thanks.

Useless company

Useless company who overcharge, overpromise and do not refund. I have a tv/phone/wifi contract with Meo, I needed the technicians to provide wired wifi to my new apartment to every bedroom, I called meo and they said somebody would come on 22.10 (Nobody came) called back and said someone would come on 30.10 (I stayed home, nobody came) I then reached out and on the third attempt in November, a technician came and said they wouldn't be able to resolve the issue as it requires a box, I called meo back they said, no box is needed and sent another technician, second technician came and said the same thing (I was charged 80euros) for these visits, I called to dispute the charge as nothing had been done, they said they wouldn't do anything about it because the visits had been made, the lady from customer complaints was extremely rude and dismissive (I speak Portuguese) they said they could only give me 40euros not the full 80 because the visit had been done however (why give me the 40 then) they're scam artists and I am ready to move to another provider as this is not the first issue I have had with them

If I could give zero stars

If I could give zero stars, I would. For over two weeks, I have been trying to terminate my contract with MEO Energia, and it has been a nightmare. Here’s why:
1. Customer Service In-Person: Staff at the customer service center outright refuse to help. They are dismissive and unwilling to provide any assistance, even with something as basic as contract termination.
2. Incompetent Helpline: The helpline staff do not speak English, making it nearly impossible for non-Portuguese speakers to resolve issues. Promises of being contacted by English-speaking representatives are nothing but empty words.
3. Dead Email Communication: Emails sent to their support team disappear into a void. Weeks later, there is no response, no acknowledgment, no resolution.

I've copied this from another review, because we've expierenced exactly the same, we've sold our house in Portugal and tried to end the contract with MEO, but it seems impossible . Even when you take the trouble to go to a MEO shop they won't listen, and the only thing they want is for the new house owners to take over the contract . We've moved out of Portugal several months ago, and now they want us to pay 290 euros for a service we haven't used and if we don't pay the amount will only get higher .

This is giving me such an incredible lot of stress :-(

Why I do not recommend Meo

Vou escrever a minha revista outra vez, agora na minha lingua propria.
Meo has queried my earlier brief review in Portuguese, and Trustpilot has asked for details.
I live in the Algarve hills. For two decades or more, I have had a contract with Meo for a phone line and satellite TV as fibre optic was not available. (My wifi came from a different satellite company.) When a representative of NOS knocked on my door last September, I signed a contract with NOS for fibre optic internet. I also signed a document which the NOS representative said would be forwarded to Meo to cancel my contract with Meo. NOS later showed me evidence that it had forwarded the cancellation to Meo. In spite of this, although I was now using and paying for NOS services, Meo continued to advise me by email each month of the usual amount due and to bill me accordingly. When I queried this payment to Meo with NOS, they advised me to take it up at a Meo outlet, which I did.
There a Meo representative said that Meo had sent me an email in connection with my ending the service. I never received any such email. When the representative checked, he informed me that the email notice had been sent to an email address some 20 years out of date. So I never received it or saw it. He advised me that I had to contact Meo by phone to close the account. This I did, explaining in detail to a Meo representative exactly what had happened. He informed me that, because of the billing date, I would receive one further monthly bill and would also have to pay for the Meo router, which I had recycled. I am awaiting this bill. He also offered to undercut my NOS fibre optic subscription. This I declined. I have since then had further calls from Meo - which I politely cut short - from whom I want to hear nothing further. I earlier had other bad experiences with Meo, which are not related to this. Ronald Sole is my pen name, one in which I have written and reviewed travel destinations for decades. It is not the name in which I held the Meo contract.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service! I tried to cancel my out-of-date contract for 6 months and had to threaten legal action before they actually helped me. Then when they set up my new contract, they told me the connection would be 2-3 hours, I was left without phone service for over 3 days, and only did they reconnect me after I had made several complaints. The only reason I use Meo is that they have connection service in the remote area where I live, if another company had the same connection I would change companies immediately.

Absolutely Appalling Service – Avoid MEO Energia at All Costs

Avoid MEO Energia like the plague—there are better energy providers out there who value their customers and offer professional service.

Too complicated for foreigners

I made the same experience like other foreign people. No email, no chat, a hotline that is in Portuguese only till you are maybe lucky to chose the right numbers from the menu to get through to an English speaking agent. Also no call back service for foreign numbers as the limit of digits you can enter doesn't match with other countries' phone numbers. I even have, NIF and Portuguese bank account but still the comms channel turns any exchange into a challenge.

If you are a foreign and you do not…

If you are a foreign and you do not have Portuguese bank account or phone number avoid this company. The only way to pay is via Multibanco which is only available for Portuguese bank users and if you want to contact the support with foreign number its impossible. They do not have any email or customer support chat to contact and if you go to their shops they only advise you to call the number. Caused so much stress especially after just moving.

BEWARE! Do not ever use MEO Portugal!!

BEWARE!! Do not use MEO as a provider of any services including internet! They are crooks and will definitely scam you! I went to get internet service for my house in a rural area, and was told that if it didn't work I could cancel my contract. I asked several times. Two days later and several hours with technical help I did not have internet service. The technician said he would put a note in my account. I went to the store and was sent to another one kilometers away! They said sure, return the equipment and we will cancel the account. Some days later I received a bill!! They had not cancelled. I tried not to pay and was told I would be sent to collection and my credit affected. Also that I never returned the equipment. Weeks of calls resulted in being threatened if I did not pay off the entire contract (several hundred euros!) I had to pay since I can't afford to have my credit affected. Never again! I just want to warn others about this disgusting company!

Absolute joke of a company

Absolute joke of a company. They fob you off on the phone over and over again as whoever you speak to can't be bothered to help. Then you get someone with full on attitude that fobs you off again telling you there isn't a problem when you explain what your problem is. We are only with them as we currently have no other choice which is a horrible position. Avoid if possible, they are absolutely useless and very rude, zero customer service.

I had very bad experience

I had very bad experience . I contract with meo for unlimited internet only. In contract the price was 30 euro every month. But only 1 month I received bill of 31 euro and after that its been 4 months they are sending 39.72 euro when i went to meo office that person told you did 1 subscription of pocket porn and i never open this kind of stuff on my phone i ask them to cancel and he told me yes i cancel the subscription after that still I received bill of 39.72 euros bill it just a scam nothing else me only using this internet nobody else using this internet I really don’t understand whats the problem with meo . When i buy unlimited internet plan then why they send bill of 39.72 euro very bery bad services….

Customer support

There is no reliable customer support - can't reach out to them. After 3 in-person visits they acknowledged the problem, scheduled a visit and... Didn't arrive. MEO is aware that wifi is not working for almost a week now and haven't done anything about it

Very incompetent

Very incompetent, after literally more than 40 minutes of waiting on the phone, the girl who answered me spoke no English (my 4-year-old niece speaks English!!), when with her front colleague who passed it to me we spoke in English. So we ended the call with a promise from her that she would have an English-speaking colleague call me in a couple of hours, a call that never happened, it's been two years that I've been paying for a subscription without using the phone line, because if I had interrupted the subscription two years ago I would have had to pay almost three hundred euros in penalties for not respecting the contractual agreements that no one mentioned to me when I signed up.
So today I have finished the two-year contract and I want to make sure they don't automatically renew it. THEY ARE SCAMMERS, INCOMPETENT, STAY AWAY FROM MEO!!!

this is a scam company that will make it almost impossible for you to terminate your internet.
I have been with them 3 years ( my contrat was only for 2 years + i found out I was overpaying for my service 50 € pr month it should be less ) now they are trying to make me pay for 2 months for closing my account. it is a SCAM!! I am disgusted with how they make it so hard to cancel. and almost impossible when you are a foreigner
it should be done with one phone call.

DISGUSTING that they are running a criminal business.
I am from Denmark and it is illegal to scam people like this. I will not pay for 2 months extra after closing my account. and the new tenant has opened a new account with them . so they are getting paid for 2 internet services and I am not using it.!!

Immediate Termination of Contract No. 1401428992 and Compensation Claim

Contract No. 1401428992 due to MEO's ongoing and unresolved failure to provide reliable and stable internet services. I also seek full compensation for the lack of stable service and inadequate assistance provided since June 2024.

Grounds for Termination:
Breach of Contractual Obligations under Article 102 of the European Electronic Communications Code (Directive (EU) 2018/1972):
MEO is obligated to provide reliable electronic communication services as per the agreed terms. Since June 2024, my household has experienced persistent and daily connectivity issues, rendering the services effectively unusable. Despite numerous calls to MEO for technical support, your organization failed to fulfill its obligations by not deploying a technician to fix the issues as promised on multiple occasions.

Failure to Rectify Service Issues in Violation of Section 5.9 and Section 5.14 of the Contract:
A technician was finally sent on October 18, 2024, who replaced my router with a refurbished one. However, the internet ceased functioning entirely on October 20, 2024. After requesting a new, non-refurbished router, MEO instructed me to visit a store, where only another refurbished router was offered. As of today, I am left without a functional router and thus no internet service at home, which contradicts the minimum service obligations defined in the contract.

Right to Compensation under Article 102 of Directive (EU) 2018/1972 and the Portuguese Consumer Protection Law:
I seek compensation for the period from June 2024 to October 2024 due to MEO's inability to provide the contracted service. The contract explicitly states that if the provided internet services do not meet the minimum specified levels, the customer is entitled to compensation for the duration of non-compliance, as described in Section 5.9 of the contract.

Right to Termination under Articles 18 and 19 of Law No. 16/2022:
According to Portuguese law, particularly Law No. 16/2022, a customer can terminate a telecommunications contract without incurring charges if there is a substantial failure to provide the agreed-upon services. Given the persistent issues and MEO’s failure to replace the equipment with a functional, new router, I am invoking my right to an immediate contract termination under these provisions.

Requests:
Immediate termination of Contract No. 1401428992 without any further charges.
Full compensation for the disrupted service period from June 2024 to October 2024.

Friday I suddendly had no Internet……

Friday I suddendly had no Internet… they said they would fix it on Monday, which would be okay… after waiting for 4 hours I tried to call had to wait 2hours, to hear that no one was coming due a regional defect without any information when it would be solved…

Well, do I just take holidays??? How can you not give any information about when the estimated time would be..
