What a great way to save time and money!

I love the versatility of the restaurant included. I enjoy many different kinds of meals. It also saves me a lot of money and time! I just go to a place, and my meal is ready! The food is great. I always talk it up to my friends, and a couple actually joined!

I signed up for a MealPal promotion…

I signed up for a MealPal promotion that advertised meals “as low as $1.89” and “10 to 12 meals.” After clicking the link, I was charged immediately without a confirmation step. The promotion was misleading—most meals in my area (Chicago) cost 7–10 credits, making the promised meal count impossible.
I contacted support and asked for a resolution without canceling my account, but they canceled it anyway and issued only a partial refund. I’ve filed complaints with the BBB, FTC, and Illinois Attorney General due to the lack of transparency and unauthorized billing.
Be cautious with MealPal’s promotions—they may not apply to your location, and the billing process lacks clarity.

The promotion referenced by the customer was not applied to their account, as it was not available in the Chicago market. This was listed in the terms and conditions of the promotion. Instead, the customer was automatically enrolled in a 50% off promotion. The advertised meal price they are referring to was associated with the other offer, which was not applicable in their region. This was explained to the customer at the time of sign-up and after the customer emailed our support team. Additionally, please note that the customer specifically requested a cancellation and partial refund.

IT WILL ONLY COST U MORE

I used MealPal for the first time, but my experience has been deeply frustrating. I was charged for multiple months without using any of the meal credits — over $150 lost — and MealPal refused to issue a refund, even though the credits were completely unused.

Their auto-renewal system is confusing and feels predatory — it charges users without clear reminders or options to pause before billing.

I contacted support and only received a partial credit for one cycle, which barely made up for the money lost. It feels like MealPal is designed more to trap users in auto-billing than to actually help them save money on food.

Be very cautious if you try this service. Cancel immediately if you don’t use it regularly — or you’ll lose money without realizing it.

Not responsive to fraudulent charges

Someone fraudulently created an account under my work email and used my credit card to charge a MealPal membership. I reported the fraudulent transaction to my credit card and changed my card number. MealPal has not been at all responsive to my emails about this fraudulent transaction and request to delete the account that was created.

If I could give zero stars I would

f I could give zero stars, I would. Mealpal's cancellation process is intentionally difficult, and their customer service is both unhelpful and dismissive. I was charged for nine months while my plan was paused. When I noticed the charges and reached out for help, I was refunded only three months—just a fraction of what was unfairly taken. Their justification? That I used a few meals after being wrongly charged.

Instead of addressing the issue, customer service reps (Emma and Jackie—if those are even their real names) spent more effort arguing than resolving the problem. Rude, evasive, and completely unwilling to take responsibility. A company that operates like this doesn’t deserve customer loyalty. Beware before signing up—canceling is a nightmare.

A hack experience, waste of money

Portions are tiny. Cust service is a nightmare to deal with (if they even respond). Restaurants don't care about you when you arrive cause this is obviously not something they make much $ off of. Very poor variety, everything is chicken....Waste of money. My 70 credits got me like four meals total...you can't use twice in a day, which makes zero sense. Horrible waste of time, money and lunch.

Beware of misleading rollover policy

I am disappointed with my experience with MealPal and decided to cancel my account. Their rollover policy for unused credits is unclear, and their customer service failed to address my concerns or provide a resolution. Despite reaching out about losing credits due to unclear communication, the company refused to take action or issue a refund for the unused credits. This experience was frustrating both financially and as a matter of principle. I would advise others to carefully review their policies.

Employ horrible dark patterns

Employ horrible dark patterns, and have managed to update the card details of patrons who have not ordered from MealPal in years.

I got a promotional email offering $70 off if I sign back up. I clicked the link in the email, and hit a landing page outlining the offer in very little detail. There was a call-to-action saying something like 'Buy Now!', which I assumed would take me onto a new page - I had not used MealPal in 5 years, and they cannot have had up-to-date payment details.

However, I landed on a page saying 'payment successful - thanks for subscribing!'. How did you get my details?

I checked out the restaurant options near my office in London, and there was absolutely nothing around. I paused my account, on the basis that I'll be moving to another office in a few months with a few more options... And they removed my paid meals.

Scam company, who are quite evidently on their last legs and trying to milk out a few pennies from unsuspecting customers.

MealPal has deceptive business…

MealPal has deceptive business practices and recently charged me double of what they were supposed to. Pre-covid it was worth it, but now they have limited options and terrible customer service. I would not recommend to anyone.

Beware of Mealpal’s Dubious Practices

Mealpal is a very sketchy company with unreliable service. Their app, website, and entire system are riddled with bugs. The platform often makes unauthorized automatic purchases for offers that are almost never available.

Their marketing practices are misleading, so be sure to scrutinize the terms and conditions for every purchase or offer because hidden catches are common. They frequently send out alleged "special offers," but these are nearly impossible to redeem due to various excuses. Additionally, they’ve been known to charge for subscriptions without clear consent.

Overall, every offer seems to come with a catch, and dealing with their customer service can be frustrating. Proceed with caution if you choose to use Mealpal.

Tough to actually save with MealPal, buggy system

1. Carefully review the rollover rules for credit. Notably: Credits go wasted when you cancel your account. This means you will always have residual unused credits that will go wasted (unless you can arrange your meal selection to bring your credit balance to exactly 0)

2. The app tends to be buggy and push you to buy stuff constantly

3. 70 credits are advertised to cover 10 meals. I think that’s exaggerative: it’s more like 7 meals if you want decent meals of correct size

Overall, I do not see a cost advantage with the problems related to credit rollover. Might as well buy directly at the merchants using a credit card…

Bad UX, dark patterns, not worth the cost

Not only are the restaurants you get access to limited, along with the food options (mostly chicken), they charge your account without letting you know for months and refuse a refund.
I’ve lost hundreds of dollars to this passive subscription. A terrible company with dark patterns all over their UX. Steer clear and avoid at all costs!

BEWARE OF SCAM

I loved the experience at first, but the company does not make it clear that you have to pay for another month of meals in order to access credits you have already paid for. For example, I paid for a month of credits (72) and at the end of the month I still had 42 credits left. When I tried to use these credits I was told that I cannot access them unless I pay for another month. When I asked if I could just cancel my account but use my credits that I had already paid for, the customer service team was very rude to me. A little kindness and empathy goes a long way and Meal Pal does not offer that. To me this feels very scammy because I essentially paid for meals that I can no longer get. It is a scam to advertise this company as a more affordable option when they force you to pay more money to access credits that you have already paid for. Don't make my mistake!!!!!!!!
