Master DebaDONT

Well what can I say. I bought a suit from these guys as they came highly recommended. Went in, picked a suit and arranged to get it altered. Paid in full and was told it would be ready in around two weeks, which is fine. However, things were far from fine. I paid for the suit on the 27th September and only finally got it by having to drive to East Bolden (on the off chance is was ready) last weekend (1st of November) as no one answered phones, emails or Facebook messages. I had one reply via email to say it will be ready this week and we will let you know. No one did, no one called and they stopped answering all messages when I tried to find out. Went in and staff were full of reasons why it wasn't there fault, phones aren't working (because no one has a mobile in 2025) technical issues. When my partner challenged them well in that case why aren't you answering Facebook messages the answer was it isn't working. Yet they had been posting all week. In short, from purchase to receiving the items six weeks! Thank god the wedding isn't until the end of November and I had the sense to drive down as without doing so I have no doubt I would still be waiting. Staff couldn't careless about the situation, customer service is shocking and their attitudes are disgusting! My advise go somewhere else. I normally use Slaters in Newcastle and wish I had on this occasion. I certainly will NOT ever go back.

Five Star Service

Dan, Jackie and the team were all wonderful. The most amazing customer service I've ever encountered. Made us feel very welcome!

Plenty of choices for suits and great styling advice. Nothing was too much trouble for them. So helpful and professional from start to finish.

This was truly good old fashioned, top notch customer service. Can't thank them enough, but I'll try!

Master Debonair

Master Debonair, East Boldon. Yes they are stylish but certainly not effortlessly.
In the end they had poor customer service for important events in people's lives, Master Debonair really caused me a major problem on my wedding day.

I recommend you read this review of Master Debonair very carefully before buying from this company for a wedding as mistakes can be very costly, and unfortunately, they really were for me.

I honestly don’t enjoy writing this and more than anything I want to be honest and fair here.
A lady I will name as M, did attempt to resolve the matter after the event, however the offer made of £100 of gift vouchers after a very costly error on their part, I felt was really poor and was ultimately a take it or leave it, I left it. More later.

I appreciate M, and her hands may well have been tied, I would not wish anyone else to go through the experience I had.

So if you are looking for a Wedding Suit or something for a special occasion read on:

My experience buying a wedding suit (or two to be exact) from Master Debonair was sadly not a good one. There were many things I liked about MD but in the end their delivery really, really let me down.

We didn’t shop around, Master Debonair in Boldon was recommended to me by a friend.
I have an extensive network and long reach in the local area. This business came up so I thought I’d give them a go. I also love to support local independent businesses whenever I can.

I drove over 40 miles to visit their store. I figured it was important to get the right fit and was advised by a young man who was indeed helpful.

This information is critical. I spent quite some time in the store trying on jackets and pants, we settled on a size and fit.

We chose two, three piece suits. We nearly took one for my son also but then we managed to buy the exact same one online for literally a third of the price offered in Master Debonair. Like many of the reviews here state, cheap they are not.

Some of the items were in stock, some were not, so I couldn’t take it all there and then, plus my best man needed to try on his suit also. So a couple of weeks later and after paying the £440+ bill we went to collect the items. Obviously another 40+ mile drive (one way)

On arrival they were busy and then seemed to struggle to find the items we had bought but eventually emerged with them, all bagged up. I purchased two ties also which cost a further £30. So the bill is now £470.

My error here was not double checking everything, but having already tried everything on essentially I saw no need to do it. Unfortunately I was wrong.

On the afternoon of the wedding day I discovered my suit pants were the wrong size.
A full size too small.
I couldn’t properly fasten them.

I tried to call the store which was open, I might add.
Answer phone.

Essentially Master Debonair has a centralised call system that doesn’t accept calls on weekends. We had two options on numbers. Neither responded until the next week which was obviously too late.

We had one chance at a solution and without being able to contact them that chance was gone.

So the result was having to wear a pair of pants which was far too small.
It was of course uncomfortable all day long,
It ruined many of the photos and really was upsetting.

Solutions

MD in fairness spoke to me afterwards, admitted their error and attempted to make a small degree of amends.

Thing is, sending me the right pair of pants a few days after the event is hardly the point now is it. They offered me £100 in essentially store credit as compensation. Now the gesture is fine but I spent £470 on something that I could have had half the bill online with a better result.

I’d made several suggestions such as the entire bill being refunded which would have at least been a serious sorry. Paying for a night away with my new wife. Essentially something meaningful.

£100 in credit is maybe a maximum £50 in reduced profit. I felt this was more or less an insult.

The time and effort alone had cost me far more than £50.

So here’s a company who must deal with weddings an awful lot and felt it was better to seriously upset a customer who had put some faith in them than to really try to say sorry.

If you want to buy a wedding suit I sadly will say make certain you double check everything and shop around for a decent deal as I ended up getting neither the right suit nor the right experience with this company.

Great local business.

Great local business.
Honestly, can’t fault the service. Jacqui in particular has pulled me out of the sh!t a number of times.
Clothing is top draw, service is personal and second to none and I always feel comfortable and welcome in store.

I bought 5 suits for a wedding and…

I bought 5 suits for a wedding and spent the best part of 2.5k on suits and alterations. The staff are spot on that's where the good experience ended-Boldon Store.

The quality of the suits are terrible. On the wedding day, my brothers waistcoat button came of and had to sew it back on himself, my waistcoat buttons (the groom) were hanging on for dear life, my waistcoat fastener came off totally, the stitching couldn't even hold for 24 hours, and it wasn't as if I was doing a tough mudder, I was at a my own wedding! Wouldn't recommend due to the quality. If I'm paying 350 quid for a 3 piece and that doesn't include a shirt, I would expect the buttons to at least not fall off and the sewing to be of good quality. I am now going have to pay more money to fix the waistcoat and treat the suit like a new born baby in case it falls apart! Go somewhere else

Excellent Service

Didn't have the jacket & waistcoat in store so assistant ordered for us to pick up in Sunderland branch the following day as needed fairly urgently. Sunderland store rang less than 24hrs after order placed to pick up. Very impressed with service in both shops & will definitely return. Lots of choice & really nice, quality, different clothing to choose from.

Poor quality

I bought a pair of shoes from Masterdebonair in May 2021, they nice looking shoes and I thought it would look good in my work. I am a wedding photographer and I used them 43 times in 2021. The quality of these shoes is terrifying,
a. fake leather
b. shoes are falling apart, fake leather peels off the material,
c. after 43 weddings, the sole have to be replaced

I do not recommend, customer service doesn't help at all. Maybe I should only use these shoes two or three times a year :)

It would of been better and cheaper to go to Matalan

I have been to the Boldon Shop to have what I thought to have a suit (fitted) for me as I am attending a wedding in just over two weeks time. The first appointment was two hours long for six of us. It seemed getting music on was more important than a suit fit and it was very cold up in the attick.we all used the same shirt which the neck was black never ever been washed and here we are in a pendemic! Disgusting. Then a second suit fitting arranged all of us were seen too very quickly but yet again dirty shirt lack of shoes for all our party not shop problem as supplies are hard to get. Asked if we wanted to take our suits away we mentioned they were creased as hell they said they can steam them which you would expect as part of a service from a decent business.Yet again trousers not fitting and no length taken yet another visit to try other trousers. Third visit hmmm same trousers no changes this third time the young lads pinned my trousers for length and pinned the sides said no fee for the adjustments just hope they fit for the very important day as no going back. Shame but I will never put forward this shabby shop to any one would of been easier and cheaper going to Matalan.

after purchasing three suits in…

after purchasing three suits in February 2020 for my wedding in April 2020, we went into lockdown, so the wedding was postponed three times in total, now we have a new date for august 2021 and our suits do not fit where they should, after contacting Master Debonair on Monday 15th march after a sleepless Sunday night, we were informed that we could take the suits in for a "final" fitting, at no extra cost which has really made my year so far. a very big thank you must go to Marie, the customer services manager who was more than helpful, and only too happy to arrange a date for the final fitting.

Great customer service!

The sign on discount code didn’t work so I emailed them to check why and they managed to sort it out within a few days. The item was received so quickly (maybe 2 days after I made the purchase) and the items looked exactly like how they were advertised, great quality too!

Online Order Review

I ordered two suits for me and my best man. Previously, I had ordered from a couple other online retailers but never satisfied with the fit or quality.

I ordered the Marc Darcy ‘Dion’ 3 piece.

As soon as it arrived, I was impressed with the quality. Each suit was of a very high quality and packaged in a Master Debonair suit bag. The suits differed in size but clearly some though had been put in to the packaging process because each suit bag contained the correct size suit for me and for my best man. Considering the sizes are mix and match, this was great.

We tried them on, they look great but my waistcoat was too small and best mans trousers a little too tight.

I emailed customer service and we exchanged the items, no problem.

My new waistcoat arrives, this time too big. I email customer service and they exchange again - again, no problem.

Each time, the support was above and beyond. Prices are very competitive and you get much higher quality than similar prices suits from other retailers.

Excellent customer service.

I could not recommend this company more highly. Extremely helpful and professional with very high quality products to boot. If you're considering a purchase then deffinately do it. You will not be dissapointed.
