BE AWARE of inviting people when you subscribe, I did that thinking I was giving a nice gift to someone and they got locked up to the same terms as someone who decided to buy it, they got charged for renewal (even though their card was expired, not sure how master class even pulled that one off) and well I guess at this point everyone knows how the customer service is near to non existent, automated answers, days to respond to emails about cancellation, whilst sending emails about charges constantly (that department works well), horrendous experience, I wanted to offer someone a nice perk ended up stressing them out to the point that I offered to refund them myself, people invited should not be mandated to subscribe to auto renewal, it's a gift, they should be asked at the end of that term if they then want to subscribe. I will never invite anyone ever again and to be fair now would not consider renewing myself.

I don’t recommend this platform.
I really wish I hadn’t paid for it. They claim to offer masterclasses, but in reality, it’s just a bunch of anecdotal interviews. You don’t actually learn anything practical.
I watched around 10 of their masterclasses, but I only managed to finish one — mostly because the content just isn’t useful. It’s not the worst thing ever, but it definitely doesn’t live up to what they promise. If you're expecting skill-building, look elsewhere.

Do NOT subscribe. All memberships are set to auto-renew and you receive no notification that your card is being charged. Once it has been charged it is nearly impossible to get a refund. Terrible customer service and deceitful billing practices.

I’ve had a great experience with MasterClass, and used it for a couple of years already. The platform offers high-quality courses with insightful explanations of various theories. However, it’s important to understand that learning doesn’t come automatically—you have to actively practice and apply what you learn in real life.
One session that stood out to me was "How to Win Workplace Negotiations." It provides incredibly useful and informative plays, demonstrating how different negotiation strategies work in real scenarios. This hands-on approach makes the lessons much more practical.
It’s a shame that MasterClass has such a low rating on Trustpilot. I believe much of the criticism comes from a misunderstanding of how learning works—people expect instant mastery without putting in the effort to apply the concepts themselves. If you're willing to practice and experiment with what you learn, MasterClass is an excellent resource!

Been full subscriber as my bank provider this with a Platinum Account. One day i Discovery subscription has been annulled without any reasons or comunication. Probably a technical errore, i comunicated with the customer service that lead me in circles for 10 days. I provided the unique code from the back regarding the subscription info. Nothing After 10 days they answered me that they were unable to solve. Useless Customer service. Avoid It.

Have been treated with contempt by these people. No help in being able to turn off auto charge, and no refund issued even though was auto charged without warning. These days it seems everyone is out to rip you off, these crooks no different.

I am so disappointed in how Masterclass handles subscriptions. First of all, there is no monthly payment plan, and second, I got a "payment didn't go through" email late evening the first day of March. Not considerate at all- feels very intrusive to not get to enjoy the first weekend of the month without some stress inducing financial emails.
Constructive advice: Schedule send to Monday instead
of trying payments and sending emails on a Saturday. It doesn't make sense to try payment on a Saturday either, since income doesn't really come into people's accounts on weekends. Nothing is so urgent it can't wait until Monday.

Waste of time and money, I bought masterclass for the writing classes. Listened to every single one. And I can tell you there is definitely some valuable information in there. But mostly it is a bunch of people talking about their lives. With no outline or plan on what their going to talk about. They say they're going to teach you how to do a, and stray to b and never come back.
Masterclass can be helpful, but it shouldn't be named masterclass, there is nothing masterful about it.
If it was monthly sub, it wouldn't be bad because you could join for your specific class and end sub. But no your tricked into an annual sub. Re refunds.

Master class is elevated and inspirational. I love the breadth of topics and the personalities that are featured. It’s not a how-to per se but it gives you a lot of interesting ideas about the topics you want to explore. I find it fascinating to learn perspectives from those who are at the top of their fields.

I signed up for a $10 a month 14 day trial. Except when I confirmed my banking information, it immediately charged me for an entire year $120.00. This is completely ridiculous and outrageous to be honest. There was no indication that I would be charged for an entire year. And the amount of people that have the same issue is astounding. I tried to call but it was past their hours, so it just hung up on me. I had to send an email instead with the response of 24 to 48 hours getting back to me. And I'm sure of course, they're going to tell me that it's going to take 5 to 10 business days to get me my money back. But they can immediately withdraw it in two seconds.

Clicked on the $10/ month option and was charged $120. It was not at all clear that they were planning to charge me for a whole year. This is a scam, don't fall for it. I immediately canceled my subscription because of this. Hopefully they give me a refund.

It sucks. I was a subscriber.
They imply these people will TEACH you...that means they show and explain how you do it. Instead I feel they spend 99% of the time telling you what they did or what you should do, but (and here's the key) they don't TEACH you HOW to do it. Class after class was them essentially telling their story, or things they've done. Great...now tell me HOW to do it. Most people know what to do, they don't know HOW to do it...and in my opinion, 99% of what I watched never had the "master" teach or explain the how part.
An example would be if they did a masterclass on producing movies, they may tell you to secure financing early on, attach big name stars to the project at the beginning, hire a great team and a great director...well no shit...you mean I paid $200 to hear that I should raise a lot of money early and get a good director? Oh I assumed I should raise just a little money and get a mediocre director lol.
Teaching is explaining the thought process behind what you are teaching and explaining/telling us HOW you raise the money, how you find investors, explain the economics of what investors expect, teach us HOW to pitch them and to be persuasive and what will get them to write checks, teach us HOW to evaluate a great director, explain HOW we establish credibility with that director so they'll take us seriously, teach us HOW you convince a great director to take our movie on, teach us HOW...we all know what we should do, it's the HOW that is missing, so to me Masterclass is a major waste.
I just went online after seeing their ads again to see if much has changed and in my opinion, the answer is no.

I was given a Masterclass subsciption as a Christmas present from my son.
I cannot for the life of me understand WHY these "classes" are termed "Master" classes. Most of the educational value of these classes is on par with a a medium quality Community College.
The people asked to present these classes appear to be chosen by the quality of their full arm sleeve tattoos rather than by any actual knowledge they possess. They seek out the "painfully trendy" and the Celebrities... most of whom are painfully NOT educators or even public speakers.
No where is this lack of quality more evident in the series on Black History. One of the opening videos is presented by a journalist associated with the 1619 project. If an actual historian would grade her presentation it would merit an "F". She continually presents her own bias as "face" rather than her own very biased opinion. It is obvious that no one bothered to do a simple fact check to confirm the validity of her statements.
If you are over 35 or so there is very very little on Master Class which will appeal to you.
I contacted Master Class Customer Service. I sent in a detailed email explaining my dissafisfaction and I clearly asked for a refund.
I received a response, from a totally DIFFERENT Customer Service agent. He sent me what appered to be a generic form letter on how to resent my password.
It did not appear he had even READ my original email.
It makes me wonder if this company even HAS an actual customer service department. My experience is similar to the comments posted on here by other greatly dissatisfied customers.
The only thing worse that the POOREST Customer Service is NO Customer Service at all!

UPDATE: They returned my email requesting for a receipt confirming they would refund the membership. I appreciate the team for listening and understanding the situation. My experience has improved and I might consider actually buying a membership intentionally this time. Went to buy a gift to someone. Had trouble with the website. Needed help to send it to the person and received one receipt of purchase. 4 months later I find out that I was charged twice and for a membership for myself as well. Contacted them to explain I wasn’t aware and had no receipt of the purchase. I had never logged in and they basically told me “too bad. You’re SOL”. Disappointing and no customer-focused on what was clearly a mistake. I asked if they would at least extend the membership considering I didn’t even know I had it for 4 months. Again, the customer service rep said “I’m sorry this isn’t what you wanted. We’re keeping your $156”. If your product is so good, you wouldn’t need to scam people out of money. UPDATE: I’ve requested the issue to be escalated and the team lead gave me the same answer. I requested they send me the receipt since I never received it and have been ignored so far. They’ve asked for my information here. Waiting for contact.

I received a gift membership in December 2024. I logged in and was prompted to give my credit card details for auto renewal of subscription. I found this very unsettling and annoying but after I retried logging in a couple of times I managed to get access without putting the details in. However, I have since been unable to access classes as I am always directed to a subscription options page instead. I have emailed support so await their response but after reading some other’s experiences on here and elsewhere on social media I am not hopeful. I am deeply upset that my gift, given in good faith and already paid for, has been so problematic to access. I will definitely discourage anyone from using this product.

The classes (the ones I can see) are pretty decent, but if I wasn't locked in for a year, I would DEF cancel. The access to the classes you pay for is shoddy (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't). I sent a request for help to customer service and have been getting the most irritating run around for a month now. I don't feel like this service was ready for streaming roll out. It has a lot of bugs and customer service is NOT trained on how to handle them. Their help center is for Kindergarteners and worthless. I'm sick I spent the money, don't have proper access, and no recourse or way to cancel. Despicable service.

A complete scam. Sending renewal notices to my spam box a few days before they charge my card and when I contact the day after they charge my card they say its too late to cancel.

Masterclass is a scam. They will keep renewing you without notice.

High quality videos, famous speakers and a good variation of different areas, I only wish Masterclass had more videos on self development. It is suitable for someone who like to pick random areas to watch everyday. I enjoyed it, however as I personally barely got any time for watching videos during this period of time, I emailed support and asked for a refund under the 30 day refund guarantee. I received an answer immediately saying that my refund is being processed. Not sure about the bad reviews, I’m happy with the customer service.

Be warned -- their gift subscriptions expire! Even though the date their system prints is clearly wrong, they refuse to honor a subscription redeemed even a month late. Effectively, we paid MasterClass for nothing! Great business model for them, terrible for the consumer.
Edited after response: lol somehow the response was even worse than nothing at all. They're "extremely sorry" but won't do the simple step of giving the service I paid for -- and they didn't even ask about how the date was printed wrong on my voucher! Hugely disappointing; stay away!
