Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 96 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many customers appreciate staff members who are polite, professional, and explain the inspection process clearly, making the experience smooth and reassuring. They often highlight instances where inspectors are fair in their assessment and provide helpful advice, leading to expected or even lower-than-anticipated charges. However, some people were dissatisfied with the service, citing staff who were rude, confrontational, and seemed determined to find faults, even minor ones, on vehicles. Reviewers frequently mention being charged for damage or wear and tear that they believe falls within normal use for the age of the car, leading to higher-than-expected repair costs. There are also concerns about the company's strict standards, with some feeling that they expect showroom condition regardless of the vehicle's age.

Avoid Manheim!

I completely agree with the many negative reviews about Manheim. Our experience returning a vehicle through them was extremely poor and I want to warn others before they go through the same experience.

We had two inspectors on two separate occasions, one named Hassan and the other Derek. Their reports could not have been more different.

Hassan advised us to reject the collection, told us the wheels only needed refurbishment (not replacement), instructed us to replace a tyre that was already legal, and said SMART repairs were “not worthwhile”. We followed his guidance exactly.

When Derek arrived two weeks later, the inspection took over an hour during which he went over the car looking for the most minor marks, even ones that were clearly within the fair wear and tear guidelines. He then produced a completely contradictory report, claiming extensive damage and other issues that simply did not exist and were never mentioned in the first inspection.

What made the experience even worse was the attitude. Derek repeatedly insisted that “it’s Volvo’s fault, nothing to do with us”, refusing to take any responsibility for the contradictions between the two inspections. He also went out of his way to tell me that Manheim inspectors “aren’t on commission”, even though I hadn’t asked, which only made the situation feel more uncomfortable and questionable, given how motivated he seemed to be in finding anything he could mark down as damage.

The inconsistency between the two inspections, the misleading advice we were given, and the refusal to acknowledge any responsibility has now forced us to escalate the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Based on this experience, I would strongly advise avoiding Manheim. The process was inconsistent, misleading, and has caused significant financial and emotional stress.

PLEASE BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS ON THIS…

PLEASE BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS ON THIS COMPANY.
We arranged to have my wife’s electric Corsa uplifted at the end of her 4 year PCP contract at the beginning of March. We were informed by Stellantis we would have to arrange it through Manheim. We tried to arrange to deliver the car to their Scottish depot but a slot wasn’t available for about a month so we had to pay almost £250 for the privilege of them coming to our house.
Their agent Mark turned up at 8am introduced himself and presented i.d seemed very pleasant. He explained that he was there to represent us and the financial company (this later turned out to be not the case).
We left him to carry out his inspection which took almost 45 minutes. I observed him looking over the car intently measuring the slightest blemish. In 50 years of owning and trading cars I have never witnessed such scrutiny. At the end of the inspection Mark proceeded to point out the faults he found that is when matters and his attitude changed. He started to gaslight me when I challenged some his findings by constantly saying calm down. I informed him I was calm but surely I had the right to question his findings. That’s when he said take it up with the finance company even when I pointed out they would act on his report.
To summarise we were very willing to accept two scuffed alloys but he charged us £75 for scuffing on the back bumper which could have been removed with Tcut. Also a rust mark on the underside of the boot lid that was less than half the size of your pinky nail(we were not aware of this until he highlighted it). I pointed out surely that was a manufacturer problem but he still charged us £123.
I highlighted the car was 4 years old and was in good condition with 14k mileage less than the contract and wasn’t a brand new car. This didn’t cut any ice with Mark who I suspect would find fault in a brand new car. He appeared to be on a mission to find faults.
As suspected when we spoked to Stellantis they would only knock off £100 from the final £343 bill saying we should have taken the car to a Vauxhall dealer to correct the minuscule rust mark under their guarantee. This was after I highlighted we were not aware of the rust problem.
This experience has put us off PCP financing especially if Manhein are involved.

Zero star rating!!

I wish there was an option for a zero star rating because that’s what I would give. I had a car collection booked today which I have waited for over 3 weeks. Less than 10 minutes into this booking, the inspector (who did not show me his id) tells me that he will be aborting collection as the car is too dirty. To start with, he said it was too dirty at the back, then when I challenged further, he said it was the back and wheels and finally the roof was thrown in as well. I asked if I could clean it or could he work with me to look at any other alternatives as I had arranged to have a day off from work to sort the collection. It was a flat no and that I would have to rebook.

He has verbally informed me that there was no other issue with the car but when I rang the office and asked about this, it’s not been captured in the notes. No help from the customer services team either who just shirk responsibility and blame the finance company for setting out the rules that they have to follow.

Genuinely feels like a big scam and an attempt to leverage every opportunity to get money out of you.

Really poor!

All went as planned

Had my car collected today as end of PCP, personal experience was polite and proffesional guys, i had spent the previous day prepping the car for collection, yes there were a couple of minor bits but as long as you make the effort to present the car well, i presume they take these as 2 year old car with 10k on the clock, its not going to be showroom condition. As such i had no additional charges.

Deeply upsetting experience. Rude and unprofessional Manheim staff

I had a Nissan Juke collected recently, a lease car through RCI finance.
Derrick Boakye was the representative who came to collect, with a colleague who refused to give his name ( both representatives refused to provide ID when asked!)
Derrick rudely refused to inspect the vehicle, saying it was too dirty! It had a few leaves on the bonnet from being parked outside. He then stood and watched with his colleague ( who was smoking) whilst I struggled to hose down the car.
Derrick falsely accused me to “having work done on the bumper”, he then went on to note down scratches that were well within wear and tear guidelines- recording on his report that they were between 2.5- 10cm ( I wisely took my own photos). He exclaimed that 2 tyres were illegal and also argued with me about the service history. He finished by confirming that there was close to £1200 worth of damage!!
Derrick was rude, intimidating and extremely unprofessional. I found the whole experience deeply upsetting.
I will be taking this further, complaining to the collections company, finance company and beyond.
Having looked into this further, I understand now that Manheim representatives work on commission for damages reported. This explains a lot!!!

Unreasonable and unfair

If your 7 year old car doesn’t look as though it has just rolled off the production line you will be fleeced for all you’re worth. I was complimented on the condition of my car by the collecting agent who said he was expecting a lot worse. It had been valeted inside and out and was near enough perfect. However it then took him about an hour to search for any minuscule defect he could spot so this lot could make some quick money out of me. The tyres had all been passed by an MOT station a few days before but apparently they didn’t meet the “requirements”. A microscopic paint flaw under the front fog lamp was chargeable and I was charged for a “missing” service even though I had the receipt. Total £529 for a vehicle that had been proudly maintained to a high standard. Unfortunately no choice over who inspects my car but someone is making a quick buck out of honest, careful drivers. I resent paying an unreasonable and unfair charge but the alternative was to reject the findings and pay for an aborted visit. They’ve got you either way!

I had a great experience with this inspection. Jonathan MacPherson turned up on time was really professional and explained everything that would happen and went through the report in detail. I was charged for a missing service, however this wasn't their fault as I had a service plan via DS and they notified me when it was due but didn't inform me due to the low mileage it should have been done yearly and I'll be taking it up with them.

Brilliant job

Mr. Stephen Singh contacted me the day prior to agreed collection stating AM inspection time. I explained that due to a medical appointment would be unavailable part of the morning and on collection day rang and fitted inspection round my appointment - brilliant.
Stephen arrived on time, declined a cup of tea and just got on with his job.
Blemishes he found were pointed out and agreed in a most friendly and professional manner.
Advice to customers awaiting inspection would be just to follow the guidelines.
I cannot fault this service, the man a credit to his trade
THANK YOU.

Manheim failed twice to collect my…

Manheim failed twice to collect my vehicle after voluntary termination, both times due to their own internal errors — not mine. I followed every instruction, took two days off work, and still ended up with no collection because they didn’t bother to update the booking despite me clearly telling them to.
Communication was awful. No confirmations, no follow‑ups, no complaints procedure when asked for it x2 (still waiting on it btw). I requested they inform my finance company about my complaint— they didn't. I found that out after sitting on hold for over 30 minutes.
They later admitted, after listening back to the call, that the mistake was completely theirs… and then offered nothing meaningful to resolve it.
A total waste of time, zero accountability, and easily one of the most frustrating customer experiences I’ve had. I will not accept a resolution that begins and ends with “we’ve had a word with the team.”

The vehicle inspector was really nice although he called out a couple of really silly things on a 3 year old car which is expected and these have been disputed.

Commission based inspectors.

In all my years of leasing, I have never encountered an inspection as biased as the one conducted by Manheim. It was evident from the moment the inspector arrived that he was unwilling to account for standard fair wear and tear on a four-year-old vehicle. I am being charged over £700 for cosmetic issues that I fundamentally dispute. Given my track record of returning vehicles in excellent condition, I will not be paying these manufactured charges and intend to escalate this matter to the Financial Ombudsman. I strongly advise others to verify who handles the end-of-lease inspections before signing a contract.

Absolutely scam of a company

Absolutely scam of a company. Carrying out false vehicle inspections. Using a made up piece of paper to determine if the colour on your vehicle is out. - Do not pay these companies a penny. They hand you a bill for damage the vehicle will then be collected and go straight to auction. No repairs are ever made. Them making a massive profit. Be very careful of these companies do not pay them a penny. After witnessing an inspection I will now be taking this further this is fraud.

Keith arrived and took a good look around the car. The car was impeccable inside and out and it was like he was determined to find something.
On the report for 3 of the alloys, none that had been marked, curbed, scratched etc, he report 3 were “gorged”. It was actually very small marks were the lacquer had come off slightly, this is general wear and tear and absolute minimum amount. They were certainly not gorged as described, charging us £49 for each alloyed.
My partner disagreed with his findings.
Not happy at all with this

Seems the large amount of negative…

Seems the large amount of negative reviews are accurate!
Incorrect assessment report details. Returned our 4 year old for inspection. Now being charged £576 for incorrect report assessment.
Incorrect Assessment of Service History
The report marks the service history as "Partial." This is factually incorrect.
The Evidence: Citroen Maintenance Schedule for this specific electric vehicle, the required intervals are 16,000 miles or 2 years.
The vehicle was serviced at 8,850 miles (21/03/23) and 24,846 miles (29/11/24). At the time of return (34,192 miles).

NSF Tyre "Uneven Wear" Charge
The report identifies "Uneven Wear" on the NSF tyre (which had 3mm of tread).

Contradiction of Guidance: the Manheim Vehicle Return Guide (v2 2024). Section 4 (Tyres) states that tyres are only chargeable if they are below the 1.6mm legal limit, have sidewall damage, or are not of the correct specification.

Lack of Transparency: "Uneven wear" is not listed as a chargeable criteria within your own guidance document. Had this been clearly defined as a breach of return standards, I would have exercised my right to replace the tyre at a significantly lower cost prior to inspection. Applying a charge for a condition not disclosed in your primary guidance is a failure of transparency.
Charging Port Flap
The report notes a misalignment. this component was fully operational and flush upon handover. Given the inspection was conducted in the rain (as noted in your report), I contest the accuracy of this visual assessment.

With th eonly option post inspection to sign as "disputed", manheim can simply cause carnage for owners and walk away leaving me to clean up and dispute the incorrect assessment. Really, really poor way to conduct business.

Stephen was excellent

Stephen was excellent. From the start he explained everything clearly and was very helpful. He was aware that we are deaf and made sure to communicate directly with me by speaking slowly, which made lip-reading much easier.

Everything was spot on. He clearly showed us what was wrong with our car and made sure we understood. I would highly recommend Stephen to anyone, as he is very understanding and communicates extremely well.

Awful, awful and awful

Same as most other 1 star reviews, rep was confrontational from the outset before anything had been checked. Then tried to pass minor scuffs as scratches and tyre wear on perfectly legal MOT tyres checked a few days previous. Also put me off using this form of car purchase and would never deal with anyone dealing with this company. Your rep was an embarassment. Don't bother with your stock reply or reaching out - I have no interest in helping you improve your shocking customer service.

Its a money making scheme

I honestly think this company are just out to rip people off, an 8 yr old car which i had for 3yrs 5months which i think i took good care of apart from usual wear and tear, they are trying to charge me for tiny little dents and i mean tiny in the inside door sill, a scratch on the door panel that was already there when i got the car, a small scuff not a scratch which i know for a fact can be tcut off, it just seems like every really minor thing you’d expect on a car of its age theyve tried to charge for, every scuff on the wheels its a rip off, the mileage is fine the interior and upholstery is fine, the mot, the service they are all fine, the car has been looked after. I did not expect any charge for anything if im honest. I will never get a car on pcp ever again, basically all ive done is maintain a car that was never going to be mine unless i bought it after the agreement finished which i would have spent more doing pcp and then buying it than i would have doing hire purchase, its a rip off and this company are just adding insult to injury. Gutted as the car in my opinion is in good condition and working well. Dont do pcp they’ll send these rip off people to you!

Return of lease vehicle

Having purchased a new Qashqai prior to expiry of existing lease, I was not looking forward to Manheim's visit, even though I have looked after the car as if it was my own for the past 3 and a half years. I need not have worried. Steven Singh came to carry out the inspection & was both polite & professional; being very complimentary about the condition inside and out. He did find minor damage to one of the alloys ( which I would argue comes under the remit of "fair wear and tear" ), but apart from that one "minor", I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I guess you reap what you sow when it comes to looking after your vehicle !
