Manheim New Zealand - essentially a rip off
Manheim try to have their cake and eat it too
by thinking they can take payment for the vehicles they sell but still control what happens with the vehicle once sold i.e. payment is accepted by Manheim and a new person is the responsible person registered with nzta. At this point Manheim no longer has any legal relationship with the vehicle. This is reflected by the fact Manheim will charge storage fees after a short period of time once sold.
But Manheim still try to control the vehicle once sold and "ownership" has changed, Manheim can not legally stipulate what happens with the vehicle in terms of transport or in any other manner whatsoever this applies to all vehicles sold even salvage/damaged vehicles. It is the new owners responsibility to follow the law, Manheim no longer have any say although they try to bully customers to doing what Manheim wants.
But even worse are their condition reports. The condition report for the vehicle I purchased was misleading and did not reflect the true condition of the vehicle. Given many vehicles can not be viewed due to their location or because of so called "health and safety" requirements, Manheim's condition reports are crucial. In reality making vehicles difficult or impossible to view and using misleading condition reports financially suits Manheim and their corporate seller clients.
The Manheim auction house in New Zealand is essentially a rip-off that benefits the Insurance industry, other corporate clients (where I'm guessing Manheim gets a lot of its business) and Manheim's overseas owners. Manheim seem to have forgotten or perhaps never appreciated that they get their money from the purchasers not the sellers.
Phone support is absolutely hopeless - support staff are ill informed about the vehicles for sale and the auction / sales process - on every contact I had with them they came across as confused and indifferent.
I recommend you don't ever trade with Manheim but if you're thinking about it make sure you've viewed the vehicle and are happy with it otherwise definitely do not participate in the auction.
