Witheld deposit on a premium car hire

Witheld deposit on a premium car hire, car was ok , we took good care of it. Had multiple damages on it wich we have pictures and video of, returned the car no problem, after 1 week I nothice I haven't received my full deposit back, 220£ witheld with no notice, email, text nothing no explanations, called several times to ask why, kept saying they will get it touch with the service department to ask what has been repaired to the car to justify the amount....bad rental company, never again....

To be avoided

I have used them in the past and they were great but it seems their service and professionalism went down the hole during this pandemic.
Last year in June I was given a voucher instead of returning my money (almost 340 euros) for the car we rented. Couldn't use it due to the pandemic and now I am trying to get an extension of the voucher which expires in a couple of months... Good luck with that... No email replies, no phone calls. Every time I call the company I get the same answer... I will talk to my colleagues to get in touch with you... Last time someone contacted me was in June last year about the voucher....

To be absolutely avoided

To be absolutely avoided! They try to scam at each step! So they sold a baby chair with 5 euros/day while on their website it was 2 euros/day. I said ok, it is not worth to ruin my day. But the second day after getting the car, the car did not start. The battery was dead, even if I paid attention not to leave any lights on etc.I had to call several times to bring me another car. When they brought me the second car, the fuel was near to zero, because this is their policy. But I have already put fuel in the first car. I am trying to get my money back for 2 weeks. When I call they say that they already did the paiement which is just a scam, for 2 weeks they did not sent my money back. I have opened a complaint with my travel insurance. Hopefully they will have more luck to get my money back. Why it is so hard to be honest??

No deposit returned

I returned 9 seat van on 1st March 2020, till today I have not received deposit back almost £2000, can someone advise me what I should do? I contacted broker, bank, spoke to Magrenta. Magrenta said during pandemia all banks close even online service, lies, i have friends in romania there said online banking was working fine. Magrenta phone number was fine untill last week when someone answer the phone, said cant see my reservation, adviced me to call back i an hour, from that time i was trying 100 times, no answer. looks like there blocked my number.

Trying to get a refund on my cancellation

I had to cancel my booking due to corona virus and now I'm trying to get back my money, which is very difficult. Not replying to my email.

This situation is happening over 3 weeks now.

I have dealt with them in the past and they seemmed ok as a company but the situation has turned round completely and I fear I may never get my money back.

The worst car rental in the world!

The worst car rental in the world! I had to rent a car in Bucarest otopeni airport. it should have been a Meet and greet. Nobody there, no car, nobody answered to the given telephone number! No money back! No answer to the e- mail! KEEP AWAY! Thieves are nicer!

From what I could read all your responses to reviews we’re blaming the customers.I made the reservation for the car 1 week before you cancelled.You company also in the moment that I made the reservation took the money from my account. Don’t move the fault to your customers and start behaving like a serious company that you present to be.

Payment for the reservation is not accepted unless it is confirmed that we have availability during the selected period. Initially the money are only blocked on your account. They dont leave your account. If we do not have availability the amount is unlocked.

We had a car booked at Bucharest…

We had a car booked at Bucharest airport from this company. Our flight was delayed so we turned up about 3-5 minutes late to the arrival terminal and the representative had gone already and nobody picked up the phone when we tried to contact them. Avoid.

Car Rental - Magrenta - (Aventis Travel and Holiday SRL)

I don't usually post reviews, but this time I have no choice but to try and warn as many people as possible about this crooked company MAGRENTA - (Aventis Travel & Holiday SRL). This company uses all sorts of tactics, schemes and fraud to maximize their profits and compensate for the misleading low advertised prices. They need to be shut down.
Here is my story:
I had my reservation done in January 2019 through VIPCars for Aug 15, 2019 (found out this was a very busy long weekend in Romania and all companies were very short on cars and the prices were sky high). The intention was to cancel my reservation and rent the car to someone else for at least double the price (or it might have been rented already).
At the counter, I met all their requirements: international driver’s license (not mentioned in the voucher), same credit card that was used for the booking online (voucher states a credit card in the driver’s name), ID, etc…
* I was told that I have to make a deposit of 960 euros. The information on the voucher is not very clear and contradictory in itself. Also, the way that they described the process of using this deposit in case of a real or invented scratch was very sketchy as well.

* Pressed for time and after a very long travel, I agreed and after a few minutes of "preparing" the POS device (card processor), the first transaction for the deposit was initiated. After approx. one minute of trying to connect, the POS device declined the transaction with the alleged error code of "CHIP cannot communicate" as I was not showed the actual declined receipt as I legally should have been presented with.

* I have agreed to try once again knowing that there is nothing wrong with my credit card. Exactly the same response from the device and the person behind the counter. I told him that this sounds like an error message from the POS device and not from my card.

* I called the credit card company and they confirmed that there is nothing wrong with my card, the chip on my card or any limits on my card. In addition, I was told that they did not receive any request for a deposit or payment from Magrenta or any other company in Romania. I was told that the error message has to do with the POS device and not my credit card. I relayed all the information I received, only to be told very convincingly that there is no problem with the POS as he made numerous transactions already that day. I asked him to at least reset the POS device before trying again.

* After the 3rd attempt and last attempt according to them, the same response came back. I called the bank again only to be told the exact same thing as before by another person that answered my call.

* When I returned to explain again what I was told and to offer another credit card to pay with, I was told that I cannot use a different credit card than the one that was used for the online reservation and that while I was on the phone with the back he went ahead and cancelled my reservation as it was almost two hours since the time I indicated for the pick-up. I asked, so that I know for next time, if it is normal to have a reservation cancelled after two hours in case the airplane was delayed. I was told that in that case, no.

* After my contract was cancelled just like that without being asked, I was told that I cannot even pay cash for the rental and that I would have to wait for 5 hours before he can make the reservation again at a higher price directly under Magrenta so that VIPCars would not know that I rented the car directly from them after the cancellation. He went on to say that he left adequate notes in the cancellation regarding inability to pay and that VIPCars will refund my deposit paid already in a few days.

* I asked what alternative I have at this point and I was told that I can be taken back to the airport with all my luggage and to try to find a car at one of the car rental companies in the airport and that it should not be more than 50 to 60 euros extra for not having a reservation already. This being the only option after wasting 3 hours already, I went back to the airport and after great difficulties I was able to find a car at a price more than 3 times higher than what my initial reservation was with Magrenta. Without any other options I took this car and with no surprise I was able to pay with the same credit card that was declined at Magrenta.

* I later found out that there seems to be common practice to remove the CHIP from the POS device when they do not wish to honor the reservation. A POS, just like a cell phone cannot communicate without a CHIP. It seems like this tactic is used frequently as this other review stating the exact same thing >>> on complaintsboard.

* After I picked up the car from the airport, I went back to Magrenta asking them for a copy of the cancellation so that I can use as proof to get my refund from VIPCars. I was told that there is nothing they can give me as all he did was to click on the cancel button and no confirmation was given to them. Unbelievable!!! I also asked for the receipts from the POS device after the card was declined. Although they should have been given to me without asking for them I was told that "I think my colleague threw them in the garbage and what do you know they threw the garbage out as well." I also asked for the photocopies that they took of my documents (passport, driver licenses) since they did not give me my reserved car and I was told that they need to keep them. While trying to explain what they did, his phone rang, he picked it up and started talking, ignoring me. Tired and disgusted, I left.

* It is obvious that there was so much illegal activity during this transaction only to try and get the car rented for more money than I have paid.
Very interesting is the fact the VIPCars just sent me a request for feedback about my car rental experience right after the car was supposed to be returned. This tells me that they did not even bother to cancel the booking. (After contacting VIPCars I was informed that the reservation was not even canceled)
Trying to communicate with them afterwards to try and make things right is a complete waste of time. Very strange that they are still in business after so many horrible reviews and complaints.
I am still in communication with VIPCars and hoping for a resolution and will follow with a complaint to the Consumer Protection Agency in Romania.

UPDATE AFTER RESPONSE: The response below from Magrenta is a a carbon copy of what I was told by them in an email response. Very pathetic. It is very clear and obvious that there is no acknowledgement of what I said happened, nor an attempt to contradict what I have stated. I guess we both have a version of the truth. Who is right? Why would I spend so much time trying to warn as many people as possible about these crooks. Hope you listen to my story and to the other real reviews here on trustpilot and try to avoid doing business with them.

UPDATE On Nov 21, 2019: Just a quick update to my MAGRENTA review from Sept 15, 2019. After contacting VIP Cars (the online broker through whom I made the booking) and unable to get any resolution from them either, I noticed that they continue to collaborate and operate under a different name: GREEN MOTION from the exact same address: Otopeni Airport, Strada Ferme "B", Bucharest 075100. I guess all the negative reviews that they collected are starting to affect them so they continue carrying on their business under a different name. Where does it end???

DON’T book this company!ishonest, corrupt, fraudulent, badly organized and only takes money out of tourist’s pocket! Very unfriendly!

They let us wait for more than 2 hours at the airport. At the beginning they didn’t pick up the phone. Then finally arriving at the rental spot they offered an additionally insurance we wouldn’t book. As we started the engine motor light showed up. As we told the employee they told it is because of „bad“ gasoline“.

When we returned they car, we were told that scratches at the bottom of the rear bumper where made by us.

Honestly, I don’t believe it but of course we can’t prove it as we didn’t notice it in advance. The employee told us that the costs won’t exceed 100 euros. In the end: we wrote 5 E-mails. They didn’t respond. When I called them, they said, that they will write an e-mail, which I never got. In the end, they took 510 euros, 3 weeks after returning the car, for a minor damage without sending a report.

The report came per E-Mail, AFTER transferring the money, as I told them I will take legal steps towards this case. They did the report 10 days after returning the car. Be aware they are calculating the damage with the software AUDATEX where they can put any date and any damage they like to. Very tricky!!

There are a lot of bad experiences with Magrenta – Aventis Travel &Holyday SRL and the good evaluations are written very, very short, so they bought them with companies, definitely.

Their responses to complaints are that they send you an Email but somehow the Email it never went through due to wrong mail address or server problems. So you would have to call them.
In online reviews they will say they had no costumer with your name.

Someone has to press charges against this criminals!

I can only agree with the other bad reviews here, they will find a damage and take your deposit. Emails are not answered and 2 months later I'm still waiting for the tiny leftover of the 900 euros deposit...
