Initiative to help garment workers impacted by Covid. Lost Stock allows shoppers to buy a mystery box of clothes cancelled by leading brands and retailers. For every box bought a garment worker and her family for a week through the Bangladeshi NGO, Sajida Foundation. This initiative was set up in May 2020 in response to $2bn of clothes being cancelled by leading brands with no payments being made to factories. In 7 months 125,000 boxes were sold, surpassing the initial target of 10,000. To do this a new global supply chain was built during a pandemic from scratch.

Awful experience

Awful experience, made the order thinking it would be a nice surprise during lockdown, ordered 3 boxes, one for me, and one each for my children. After 4 or 5 months with nothing, I started to get suspicious. The emails from lockstock were standard responses, I know this because I got the same email each time I asked. They told me I couldn’t cancel my order despite it not being anywhere near to being sent to me. It then became apparent that the clothes were not as stated and people were receiving badly made and sometimes dirty clothes that weren’t even made in the country they were supposedly helping.
After emailing continually and putting in a complaint they finally let me cancel the boxes but told me I may still receive them and I would need to then return them. I said I would be happy to as long as they paid for the return. The boxes never arrived.

We’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience with Lost Stock. Throughout this initiative, we’ve tried very hard to create a great experience for consumers in the face of numerous challenges created by the situation facing workers and also in building a totally new supply chain in the middle of a pandemic.

To build Lost Stock, we had to create a global supply chain from scratch at a time of significantly reduced air freight. This meant some items were packed much earlier than we could get them onto a flight. Once an item was packed sadly there was no way of us being able to cancel that order without it being delivered. Instead, the order had to be delivered and then returned.

Of course, even with these circumstances, we’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience with us. You can view our full report on the project in our Impact Report - https://loststock.com/blogs/news/the-impact-of-lost-stock

Poor product, poor experience and arrogant, greedy company

Placed an order in May for a "plain neutral" box to be worth £70, arrived in October after extensive delays. It appeared that most Irish orders came in around the same time which I'm not sure why they took orders in May for a region they weren't sure how to ship to. Clothes that arrived in October were all bright, heavily patterned designs and no where near the advertised recommended retail price of 70 gbp. When I asked about this they said along the lines of that the demand was so great they weren't able to match their items to people's preferences. I find this rather annoying to hear as I had placed my order so far in advance surely at the time I ordered they should have been able to match it? Because of the delays in shipping to Ireland I seemed to have been given scraps with items not matching the description at all. Additionally the quality of the items were so poor I was unable to repurpose the clothing and turn it into a mask etc. as it was thin, flimsy and see through. I requested a refund but had to ship the clothing back myself at a cost of around 8euro. On top of this I was unable to claim my VAT back due to a weird business practice that they had put in place which meant that as I was the importer of the good I had to try reclaim my VAT myself from the Belgian authorities since this was where the clothing entered the EU. I contacted the Belgian authorities but was unable to be sent to the right area to reclaim my VAT and ultimately I could not claim this back even though I had returned the goods.

Overall this was an extremely poor experience. The customer service was appalling and the attitude of the company on a whole seemed arrogant and entitled. They should not have sold more boxes than they were able to fulfill in a timely manner and to the description they gave. They were greedy and accepted orders far beyond their means and tried to guilt customers out of using their legislated consumer rights.

This company is a con. AVOID at all costs!!!!

I was advised my order would arrive in 6-8 weeks, after awaiting 14 weeks I requested a refund and it was refused.

When I finally received my box and very disappointed with the contents. I had expected goods from Topshop and Gap as advised to the value of £70.

I have instead received a two basic vest style tops from Matalan and Zara and a crop top which is not suited to my size or age selection!

Again refund refused. Absolute joke of a company - a con. How an earth are they allowed to trade!!

I have an ongoing claim with Monzo to attempting to get my money back.

Throughout this initiative, we’ve tried very hard to create a great experience for consumers in the face of numerous challenges created by the situation facing workers and also in building a totally new supply chain in the middle of a pandemic.
Lost Stock was designed specifically to help garment workers and factories impacted by cancellations by brands of completed items. In just 7 months we were able to generate enough funds to support 113,000 people for just over 4 weeks each by selling cancelled items in a mystery box. This work and the full financials behind Lost Stock can be accessed in our impact report - https://loststock.com/blogs/news/the-impact-of-lost-stock

The scale of building Lost Stock during a pandemic was a huge undertaking and we’re really sorry that this resulted in a less than positive experience for you, but this does not mean we were a scam. We hope you'll get a chance to look into our report above.

We offered a complete refund policy and updated this during the process to be more favorable to consumers but due to the margins on which Lost Stock was built we were not able to offer free returns.

Extremely poor service and product

I ordered, then heard nothing for 5 months. I asked to cancel my order and they refused. I waited another month at least and raised a PayPal dispute. My items finally arrived about a month after that. They were absolutely not worth the value stated and were 3 very cheap tops. I gave 2 away to my mother and kept 1, which after 2 washes has faded. I would never consider dealing with this company again. If you would like to help a charity out then do a direct donation and cut these people out.

Very disappointing

Very disappointing. I was waiting for my two boxes for months, but I stuck with it because I thought I was helping to workers in Bangladesh. After multiple emails with apologies, I started googling a bit and found out that Loststock is not only sending clothes horrible quality, but sometimes even made in China, India... nothing as promised. When I saw they are deleting negative reviews and blocking unhappy customers, I cancelled both boxes straight away. After couple weeks, one box showed up even though it was cancelled and it seems that many people had the same issue.
I believe this was one smart scam and the company owners were earning money from people who believed they are helping during pandemic.

As outlined at the start of the project, whilst the aid element was focused on helping workers in Bangladesh we did on occasion buy items that had been cancelled in other production countries where factories had seen large cancellations. Disheartened customer.

I ordered from Lost Stock as the whole concept sounded amazing; helping families in need, helping the environment by saving clothes from ending up in landfill, and receiving “high-quality fashion items worth £70+ rrp” I selected my preferences, dark coloured clothes.
Waited 15 weeks for my “box” to arrive, as soon as I saw the flimsy, plastic packaging of my tiny delivery my heart sank. I opened the package to be greeted with three white, sleeveless tops.
Yes.
You read that correctly.
Three. White. Sleeveless tops.
One “Dorothy style” crop top and two white vest tops.
To add insult to injury, one vest top had a big hole in it where the original shops label had been hacked off.
I searched the Lost Stock page on Facebook and saw numerous people who had received the same package as me that day and were bitterly disappointed as I was.
I decided to post a review, with pictures of what I received and staff attempted to justify this and argue that I had received £70 worth of merchandise!
Staff stated that you could try and claim a refund but would only be entitled to less than 50% of what we paid!
My review was getting lots of responses from other disappointed people and I periodically checked back on my post to reply to other.
Until Lost Stock deleted my review and every other post that had been there expressing disappointment and warning others not to order from Lost Stock.

I have serious concerns of whether the money donated by thousands of people actually went to Bangladesh and helped any vulnerable families at all. I really hope that Lost Stock are legitimate in their claims of where the money has gone but their behaviour does not reflect that of a reputable company.
So disheartened by the whole experience.

Great concept, total con

Sold as bespoke box of high quality high street clothes but actually turned out to be waiting many many weeks for cheap, out of fashion, out of season, I’ll fitting tops that were worth no where near the purchase price let alone the alleged RRP. I hope the charity actually benefitted as the customer side was a total scam. Wish I’d just donated to charity.

Brilliant concept, horrendously executed

Ordered in May, when it first got good praise for the concept, knew it would take 6-8 weeks.....almost 6 months later, in winter, I received my summer bag. One had a hideous high waist/low boobs elastic, the other two are wearable but would have been maybe £15 each on the high street. So absolutely nowhere near the £75.

Whenever I chased, I got a generic it’s on its way, it’d just a bit delayed email.

And I am not convinced they didn’t end up buying in outfits.

The recent 5 star reviews are blatantly written by people employed by them. The references to not caring about waiting, how on trend they were, the high quality of the goods etc. Clearly a concerted effort to look better than they were.

Dishonest and poor quality

Was promised clothes that would have been sold for £70, for the price of £35. When it arrived (14 weeks later) it was 3 tops which sold in Matalan (one of them a vest I'd expect to pay £3 for at most) and a slip dress with a hole in it. When I requested a refund they originally tried to scam me by saying some of the money I'd paid was non-refundable VAT and customs charges. This of course isn't true, because the VAT should be refunded and the company I bought from is based in Edinburgh and I'm in the UK so there are no customs charges to pay.

Should also mention, they made no attempt to match to my preferences. I ordered plain neutrals and received shocking pink and bright mustard. Other people who ordered brights in my size were sent neutral colours at the same time.

With Lost Stock we only bought items that had been cancelled by brands and retailers. By the end of the project we had bought products that had been cancelled by over 50 different companies. In a couple of small instances, brands returned to buy some of their originally cancelled stock from the factories we were working with and then sold these items at a price lower than the outlined RRP. Whilst it is commended that brands returned to purchase this stock and helped factories and workers of course this caused some confusion.

We offered a complete refund policy and updated this during the process to be more favorable to consumers but due to the margins on which Lost Stock was built we were not able to offer free returns.

Avoid

My original review seems to have disappeared along with lots of glowing reviews appearing since lost stock have claimed their trust pilot page 🤔

Anyway ordered 2 boxes in May, 1 received in October and the second in November. The clothes were absolutely rubbish and definitely not of a £70 RRP.

I went through PayPal for a refund because lost stock could not provide any tracking information and then only supplied it once a PayPal claim was lodged. So it was initially declined, however, PayPal then granted me my appeal. I sent back the items when they came and received the refund for both boxes.

We randomly got tracking information for my husbands box after we had received a refund. His items are currently in a pile waiting for the charity shops to reopen.

Whe ordered the week the company open stating it was Gap, Topshop and other highstreet cancelled orders. Clothes that we felt would be a treat in a miserable time that we might not usually be able to afford. What came was tat, cheaply made in China to fulfill orders.

This was never a charity or a donation to a charity and some people seem to have got this confused. It was a business trying to make a profit, using charity as an excuse for crap customer service and to guilt trip people into keeping the shoddy products.

What an amazing idea

What an amazing idea. I am astonished by so much negativity towards this company. Yes, I waited longer than ideal for my parcel but it arrived with 2 items I loved and 1 that I easily swapped on the related FB group. My clothes are great quality and on trend (lots of animal print this year) with one item in particular so fabulous that I cannot wait to go for an evening out wearing it when lockdown is over. I thoroughly enjoyed the chance aspect - it really seemed like I'd received a surprise gift in the post! I appreciated Lost Stock's idea of purchasing unsold stock. In supporting this initiative I believe I was supporting their own workforce through lockdown as well as those in Bangladesh. Very impressed indeed.

Spectacularly poor and apparent lack of honesty

Ordered with 6-8 week delivery estimate, turned out to be over 6 months with exceptionally poor communication. Was refunded months after trying to get a resolution but the order arrived many weeks later, they agreed I can donate the clothes to a local charity, I will but I do feel embarrassed at donating such awful clothes. Also false advertising - I ordered when this was a project about buying existing stock from Bangladesh, however was delivered items that seem to have been made in China (there’s also many queries about whether all the stock for this was already existing at the point of this project starting in May 2020 or made since then, which would again add to false advertising if found to be true). Terrible customer service, poor communication, have also seen evidence of emotional blackmail used towards other customers and on their websites refunds information.

Update following the reply from LostStock: whilst there are several points in your response that skirt around the issues raised I would like to highlight one in particular. You state “However, we’re sorry if you didn’t feel this was made clear to you when you purchased.” This comes across as emotionally abusive because you are ‘apologising’ for me ‘feeling’ something was not clearly communicated, this is gaslighting behaviour. This was not communicated at all at the time of my order. It is the case that at the time and date when I ordered there was *only* mention of Bangladesh. This is not a ‘feeling’, this is the fact of the situation. You did provide updates later on, after this, about other countries, but if I ordered at a time when the information was only about Bangladesh then it follows that my order should have been processed in this way. If you wanted to make subsequent orders from clothes from other countries, after stating that this is what you were doing, then this would not have been an issue for those orders as they were placed after you had communicated this. The problem arose because you did something other than what you said you were going to do at the point of me making the order. The fact that you respond with ‘non-apologies’ is an abuse of power, I wonder if you are doing this to try to avoid truly making an apology. An apology requires taking accountability for your mistakes and making meaningful change, an apology consists of behavioural change not simply saying the word ‘sorry’.

We updated on this multiple times during the initiative on social media and in blog posts as it was never our intention for this to be, in any way a secret. However, we’re sorry if you didn’t feel this was made clear to you when you purchased.

Again, we’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience with us. You can view our full report on the project in our Impact Report - https://loststock.com/blogs/news/the-impact-of-lost-stock

Not as advertised

We were promised £75 worth of clothing from places such as Topshop but received low quality clothing that was completely inappropriate for the age group and size selected. I ended up with granny clothes that hung off me, they were huge for a size M! Thankfully, Lost Stock is over now.

We’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience with Lost Stock. Throughout this initiative, we’ve tried very hard to create a great experience for consumers in the face of numerous challenges created by the situation facing workers and also in building a totally new supply chain in the middle of a pandemic.

We bought stock cancelled by over 50 different brands and retailers due to the coronavirus pandemic, directly from factories. Due to this being cancelled stock, all brand tags had to be removed from products to allow them to be sold, which in some cases can make items feel lower quality. We’re sorry that you weren’t happy with the quality of the items in your Lost Stock box.

Terrible experience

Terrible experience
Awful quality
Outdated, odd sized clothes, donated to charity...but felt guilty about doing that as they were so bad!
Waited many months, and always showed as in transit so couldn't cancel the second order.
Felt cheated and unsure where the profits really ended up. Very suspicious to see so many recent glowing reviews!

To build Lost Stock, we had to create a global supply chain from scratch at a time of significantly reduced air freight. This meant some items were packed much earlier than we could get them onto a flight. Once an item was packed sadly there was no way of us being able to cancel that order without it being delivered.

Poor

Great concept but delivery of the concept was appalling. Extremely long delivery times, airmiles that the shipment did was disappointing, products very poor quality and would be sold at very low prices on high street. I received as one of my three items, a £2.50 vest from Matalan which Matalan still had for purchase from their website! I wish I had donated directly to a charity.

We’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience with Lost Stock. Throughout this initiative, we’ve tried very hard to create a great experience for consumers in the face of numerous challenges created by the situation facing workers and also in building a totally new supply chain in the middle of a pandemic.

When we set out to build Lost Stock we aimed to sell 10,000 boxes, in the end, we sold over 124,000. This increase in scale and complexity along with the continual changes created by the pandemic meant that some orders were delayed and we’re really sorry for this issue. We tried our best to keep customers up to date but this wasn’t always possible in the circumstances and in the context of what we were trying to do. We acknowledge we could have done better, and we’re sorry we let you down with this.

Even with these circumstances, we’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience with us. You can view our full report on the project in our Impact Report - https://loststock.com/blogs/news/the-impact-of-lost-stock

Poor customer service.

Poor customer service.
Recieved the wrong size and was gulited into no returning as "it's for a good cause" cost me almost £40 and was meant to be at least £75 of clothes which it certainly wasn't.
The money I paid may have gone to a good cause but when suggesting I donate rarther than accept a return I was annoyed. £40 for unwearable clothes is a lot of money to waste good cause or not

We offered a complete refund policy on the website and updated this during the process to be more favorable to consumers but due to the margins on which Lost Stock was built we were not able to offer free returns.

Of course, even with these circumstances, we’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience with us. You can view our full report on the project in our Impact Report - https://loststock.com/blogs/news/the-impact-of-lost-stock
