Despite having a reservation
Despite having a reservation, I had to wait almost three hours in the heat with about 15 other people for a car. And then the car with automatic transmission, which was important to me and for which I paid extra, wasn't available. For three weeks, they couldn't provide me with the car I wanted! All they offered me was a €50 discount for those three weeks. Never again!

Central rental location in Trieste
Central rental location in Trieste with enough cars but you need to know which size car you require for your luggage. Also oil indicator lamp camp on even though we had only done 250km into our trip.

Good Overall Experience, but Be Prepared for the Insurance Upsell
My overall experience with renting a car from Locauto Palermo was good and I would use their services again. I booked and paid for the car online, so the “paperwork” when picking it up was relatively easy and quick. I was even given a higher-class car than the one I had initially booked, which was a nice bonus.
From this perspective, everything was good.
On the other hand, while I understand that this is probably part of their job, I felt that there was an attempt to push additional insurance directly through the rental company. For some customers, this may make sense, but I had already arranged and purchased adequate full insurance in advance. Furthermore, the price of their insurance alone was almost 90% of the total amount I had paid for the rental and my existing insurance combined.
I do not like this approach as a customer. In any case, it seems to be a common practice among many car rental companies in Sicily. I have seen customer reviews mentioning similar experiences with several other companies.
So, I politely declined the offer and stuck with the insurance I had already arranged. Don't let yourself be pushed into something you don't need.
