Homeowner's perspective

Real estate agents beware: this company is spamming your potential clients with automated text messages. I received one of these texts, which are particularly creepy because they contain my street address, and followed up with the real estate agent that "Natalie Harper" claimed to be working with.

Usually my policy is to leave a negative review for businesses who contact me without consent, but I have found out that these lead generators are scamming real estate agents and other business owners, who are not aware of the illegal marketing practices being associated with their business. Sure enough, this real estate agent claimed that Liststream said they would provide him with leads from "people who are looking at houses on social media".

I do not use social media and am certainly not looking at houses. Even if I were, I am a resident of Californa and have used DROP to opt out of data brokers - any data broker operating legally in the state is prohibited from selling or sharing my personal information.

Furthermore, "Natalie Harper" did not provide information about the business she was representing, nor did the text message include instructions to opt out of future contact. Both of these must be disclosed in the first message even if I have consented to receive marketing messages via text (which I have not).

I am also on the National Do Not Call Registry. If the real estate agent had followed up on this so-called 'lead', he would have been in violation and subject to a fine of about $5000 per call.

Liststream is a scam and they do not respect the laws regarding marketing communications. They don't care because you (the real estate agent) are the one who's going to be held in violation. Please spread the word to your fellow agents that anyone offering hot leads for $75 apiece is a scam - if everyone stops using these shady lead generation services, I can finally get some peace from these constant calls and texts!
