"UCLan: A Disappointing Experience in Unprofessionalism"?

I am deeply disappointed by the unprofessional conduct of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) during my recent application process for an undergraduate course in hospitality management.

After months of providing extensive documentation and waiting patiently, UCLan issued a conditional offer and requested half of the £6000 tuition fees upfront. However, their treatment took a turn for the worse when they conducted a credibility interview, only to inform me the next day that they were no longer interested, citing reasons that were nothing short of ridiculous.

What's more disheartening is that my family and I turned down other university offers based on UCLan's initial acceptance, only to be left hanging for months without any updates. To add insult to injury, the university only refunded £5750 of the initial payment, claiming the rest was for "processing the application," a fee that was never mentioned beforehand and is utterly unfair given the circumstances.

This experience has left me disillusioned and frustrated with UCLan's lack of professionalism and transparency. I urge prospective students to think twice before considering this institution, as my experience highlights their disregard for applicants' time, effort, and financial investment.

AVIOD THIS UNIVERSITY IF YOU CARE ABOUT…

AVIOD THIS UNIVERSITY IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

There needs to be an investigation launched on this university for lack of conduct and high unethical practices.

I’ve come from other university institutions and university of central Lancashire WORST university I have dealt with. I am absolutely shocked and appalled at the lack of organisation of this institution.

The best I could describe being at this university was like a nightmare I COULD NOT wake up from. Staff have a high disagreed for your mental health and safety. They simply do not care about you whatsoever!!

If you care about your mental health AVIOD this university at all costs.

If I could give this university 0 stars I would.

Corrupt organisation

Corrupt organisation, discrimination towards EU nationals. They will mark and grade based on your skin colour, nationality and whether you will show if you have money or not.
Later they will mess with your grade and send you false certificates.
On the top, they like to harass students, stay away.

DISCRIMINATION AND ZERO SUPPORT

I am writing on behalf of my wife. This uni is a complete disgrace. Complete lack of support for students. DISCRIMINATION against women who take time off for maternity leave. These complete morons cant even manage how to pause education and restart it after maternity. To cut a long story short, my wife is now being threatened with Bailiffs. Her student finance was paused while we had our child. It should have been reinstated for her last payment when she returned to Uni/nursing placement. Because the complete cretins cant even liaise with stu finance, she is now being refused her payment. Absolute disgrace. We have had to pay £700 ppm for childcare while she's been back at uni, and stu-finance wont pay (because the uni are refusing to get involved - even though this is all their doing), and now UCLAN threaten bailiffs if she doesn't pay them.
The attitude of the team over the phone is disgraceful, they DID NOT GIVE 2 F***KS. WE WILL BE GOING TO THE NEWSPAPERS REGARDING THIS.
AVOID THIS CROOKED UNI. UPCOMING STUDENTS PLESE READ. DO NOT APPLY HERE!!!!!

This Uni writes the book on disabled access

I have just spent the day in Preston attending the graduation ceremony for my wife. I am disabled so we spent a bit of time researching accessibility issues but we were quite reassured that my being in a powered wheelchair should not pose an insurmountable problem. How wrong could I be ? It wasn’t a problem, it was an absolute delight

From arrival on the footpath we were met by guides in t shirts indicating willingness to help, a big smile and they really meant it. The campus route was absolutely flat and virtually every time I paused to let my wife catch up I was approached and asked if they could be of any assistance. As we waited in a large group to move to the presentation halls I was asked by a young guide if he could direct me to my allocated viewing area. Not only that but he queued for a cold drink for my wife and I and accompanied me right to my allocated seating area and chatted all the way. This was not just helpful it was an actual pleasure. After some 20 minutes seated, Tom returned to see if I needed anything and to ask if I would like to be collected and escorted after the event. This wasn’t necessary but I could not praise Tom nor every other helper/ guide enough.
To spell it out I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED SUCH A POSITIVE EFFORT TO ENSURE DISABLED PEOPLE ARE OFFERED NOT JUST BASIC HELP BUT EVERY POSSIBLE EFFORT TO MAKE SURE WE HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED, WE WERE FULLY AWARE OF WHAT IS AVAILABLE AND THAT OUR EXPERIENCE WAS AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THAT OF ABLE BODIED VISITORS.

I cannot speak highly enough of the University staff and the volunteers who put in such hard work to make the day a memory for a lifetime. This wasn’t just ticking boxes, this was an outstanding example of true disability awareness and a wholehearted commitment to accessibility.
I was genuinely moved that both the young ( and more mature) people and such an organisation as UCLAN can make accessibility not just a task, but a core part of the life of the University
I cannot speak highly enough of Tom and of UCLAN. From now, you are the gold standard for my future accessibility experiences. Thank you so much.

worst university University of central…

worst university University of central lancashire. preston ..no supportive team.. very lazy management.. I was a student of uclan. and this university ruined my life. as I have paidmytuition fee before the deadline.due to enrolment issue theyhave stopped my study n blocked my account.when iwas attending my all classes they did not bother.. simply deactivated my account and stated u have not enrolled. iwas telling them there was technical error in enrolment link kindly rectify. simply they passed number of months to rectify. . istrongly request to vice chancellor graham baldwin.. if you could see these all. kindly open ur eyes and look these all.. if u are just for money making university thats enough.. if you have left minimal justice kindly do not repeat this kind of mistakes.. and act quickly. if u had acted quickly I would have completed my study successfully. very disgusting it would be far better if I had admitted into another university inspite of Uclan. I Lost my money, dreams, career, my two years.

Great university experience.

Great university, having taken my under graduate, masters and now my PhD here, the support from staff, the facilities and opportunities available are fantastic. You aren't just a number and I was supported throughout by numerous members of staff when developing business ideas and initiatives aswell as getting internship opportunities within sports performance.

Having also taken a PGCE elsewhere and worked at 3 other universities since graduating, it made me realise how greatful I was to get such a fantastic experience at UCLan and not have chosen other universities.

A brilliant university

A brilliant university, as a first year undergrad I have found it's protocol for this first year in covid times as being well organised and planned. Despite not having many face to face lessons on my practical course, I have still learnt an awful lot. I went to the summer classes to better my understanding of the filming equipment I use and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have learnt a lot more skills and have transferred from one course to the other for my last two years as the film production courses looks as though it would be a better fit for me over TV production. The tutors on both courses are brilliant and helpful.

I sat two degrees at UCLAN

I sat two degrees at UCLAN, an undergraduate and a postgraduate programme. The University is in my opinion vastly underrated. I sat my first degree in 2002 at and I attended the Lancashire Business School (LBS), I was awarded a 2:1. University during that time period was a somewhat questionable experience and there where many times I regretted going, this was not the fault of the University, this had more to do with the student cohort, which considering students are meant to be intelligent people, I was shocked at how they sometimes treated each other - with utter contempt, then there is the location of the University, Preston City is like many cities it has its rougher parts and more affluent areas, I have seen quite a few students being set upon and beaten up by the locals in the area surrounding the campus. The Police force like in many cities are somewhat neutered and ineffectual- they cant be relied on The University is not to blame for outside factors and unpredictable elements but this perhaps goes a long way in how the University is rated by students. In 2019 I started a post grad degree in Business Law and in 2020 I was awarded a Merit classification from the Lancashire Law School. The way students treated each other with contempt has not changed and the locals are still bad to the students. Nothing has really changed. The University is still a good place, with world class lecturers who give good teaching, and the support is there, the facilities are there, the Student Union and societies are all there. UCLAN has a lot to offer, but it's in a location where its on the doorstep of a local community that's angry and intolerant. If UCLAN had picturesque surroundings like Lancaster or Warwick I suspect the reviews and ratings would be greatly improved.
