Poorly designed...
Unfortunately its the worst dog toy I've bought. The idea is great and quality is decent but the telescopic handle does not lock when closed and keeps slipping into the open position. The cup that holds the ball is not great either as the ball (standard size) sits loose in it so when you chuck the ball it's not an accurate release... Good idea but let down by poor design for the telescopic function and cup that holds the ball....

Rustum, I'm so sorry to hear that you aren't enjoying your new ball thrower. We will give you a full refund immediately. The telescopic handle does not lock down for design reasons and although the ball thrower is designed to take a standard sized tennis ball (as defined by the International Tennis Federation), there are lots of balls sold as 'tennis balls' that are of all sorts of different sizes. The cup is deliberately wider than a traditional ball thrower to enable the ball to release with less energy expenditure for the user and although it will throw any size ball, the snugger the fit the easier the ball thrower is to use. It's OK
I am a dog walker and need a chucker that will fit in my bag when i am out and about, which the kOMPACT9 does this nicely. Unfortunately the balls i am using at the moment are a little too small for the Kompact9. Chuckers made from a slightly softer plastic are more forgiving of different sized balls.
Also I am not too keen on the bag which is designed to cover the end of the kOMPACT9,because it falls off, it would be far better if the bag was big enough for the whole chucker.

Steve. Thank you for your feedback. We did toy with the idea of a full cover but the feedback from our group of testers was that you would get dog slobber on the handle and 82% of them preferred a cup only cover. Due to cup design and the ease of release, our ball thrower will be less forgiving of different sized balls although you can still use any ball smaller than a standard sized tennis ball as defined by the lawn tennis association. We think the ease of release and consequent energy saving for the thrower, warrants the use of a standard sized tennis ball. We are looking to make a dog friendly recycled or sustainably made ball to go with the ball thrower. Would this be of interest to you?
Well thought out, environmentally friendly oroduct
I have just received my ball thrower, extremely quick delivery!! It looks great and they have even thought of a bag to protect pockets. Due to a recent illness I now have to use crutches. I take my two dogs to our local woods where they can go off lead and my Parsons Jack Russell LOVES to chase her ball. Using crutches I now can't carry my old thrower. Hence Kompact9 is a life saver, she gets depressed without playing chase!!
I LOVE the fact they have produced something with such great environmentally friendly credentials. This deserves high praise. And a British enterprise to boot!

Not impressed. I think it could have a better grip on handle as its very slippy. I do like how it folds up.

What a fantastic product this is. So easy to slip into your pocket and much easier on the arm than the usual launchers. The ball is easy to pick up and goes much further too. Excellent service, delivery was very quick, two very happy doggies.

I loved the idea of this and have only used it twice so it might grow on me but I found it quite annoying to use as it slightly too big for standard tennis balls which i use and they would be hard to pick up also it does not stay in small size when carrying it in hand it kept expanding which defeated purpose my pocket not big enough to fit it in . It early days i will persever with it

Please persist. It takes a while to get used to and the action required to throw the ball is slightly different. The cup has a different release mechanism which means you can throw it further using less energy. The cup is designed to work with a tennis ball as defined by the lawn tennis association. Unfortunately, some balls marketed as dog tennis balls aren't a regulated size and can be smaller or bigger than the cup size. I don't know if you have a tennis club near you, but with lockdown more people are playing and most clubs give away their old tennis balls free of charge. Do let us know how you get on. With the ball thrower hidden in my pocket I can walk for miles and then throw a ball mid way through a walk at a time of my choosing. Karen
Expensive is not always better!
First off the feedback on Facebook. Leave your medical expertise at home. Review the product not your opinion of it.
Secondly the item itself - eeesh, was expecting far better.
1. Does NOT fit standard sized balls. Won’t fit nerf balls, doesn’t hold regular pet shop tennis balls or kong balls. It’s too big.
2. You have to ‘scoop’ the ball off the ground rather than ‘grab’ it. Not the easiest with a possessive dog.
3. The release point is awful. I’ve had this launch backwards, straight up, pitifully forward and the occasional good throw.
The point is, with a £1.99 Pets at Home thrower, I can throw the length of a football field goal to goal. With this the best I get is 3/4 that and then only very rarely.
I bought two, the only use I’ll get is if I take it on a proper walk and can stick it in my pocket - oh but don’t get me started on the force it takes to retract this thing. Watch your fingers!!!

Hi Kodi, thanks for your review. You bring up some excellent points which I'll quickly clarify:
1. The ball thrower is designed to fit standard tennis balls as defined by the international tennis federation. A lot of retailers brand their balls as 'tennis balls' when they are not the correct size, this does create a lot of confusion!
2. Sometimes a 'scoop' method is easier but it is not required when you have a correct size of tennis ball.
3. The release point is slightly different to standard ball throwers, but the main difference and probably where you are finding your issues is that our ball thrower requires significantly less force to throw with (its easy to do if you are used to a normal ball thrower!). You can use it to throw from any angle with very minimal force. Our ball thrower was tested with people who have disabilities related to their upper body and are unable to either throw a ball normally or with a standard ball thrower but because of the lack of force required with our thrower they can throw easily.
With regard to the retraction I recommend having a look at the leaflet which came with your ball thrower, it has a section explaining the easiest way to retract your ball thrower.

We are considering selling the ball thrower with balls. The only think stopping us at the moment is that this will increase the weight of the package and therefore increase our carbon footprint. With lockdown, lots more people are playing tennis and you may be able to get some free used balls from your local tennis club. Karen and Alex

Thank you for your feedback. The ball thrower takes a standard sized tennis ball as defined and specified by the lawn tennis association. Some balls, marketed as tennis balls, are actually non-standard sizes. If you want a good fit I suggest you get some tennis balls (with the increase in Tennis as a result of the pandemic, most clubs are giving these away free to dog owners) and give it another try. With regards to the collapse, we cant go any smaller without compromising the ability to throw. Do let us know how you get on. Karen and Alex
