Dance studios beware

Dance studios beware! The management of this company has changed and there is indeed, Something rotten in Denmark. I can speak to the changes in quality because we originally purchased through Dance Vision in 1999. The floor was installed by my wife’s father and lasted 20 years without requiring refinishing but our lease ended and we moved to a new location where We purchased from the Junkers distributor in New York City. We disassembled and took the old floor with us. The new floor was delivered and as we installed it we noticed that, despite having the same lot of wood, the clip insertion points were off. This resulted in clips popping loose and and clicking sounds when walking . We also noticed that the edges of the wood had areas where the finish was peeling and that our shoes caught the edges of the boards in certain sections. We documented our findings, argued our concerns and emailed them to the distributor . They agreed to send a new shipment without charging us. The second shipment arrived and we stored it sealed in plastic in the heated room next to our studio so that the temperature was consistent. When we opened the plastic wrapping on this shipment and began installing we saw many boards that were knotted and had markings that were not the standard we ordered for our ballroom flooring. It was so much so that we complained and had to wait for replacement pieces. When the floor was finally installed we noticed that our shoes were now catching on the ends of almost every board. We watched the installer to ensure that clips were placed in the appropriate locations per instruction. We even made a template to ensure consistency. Our studio temperature was controlled and we installed the industry standard vapor barrier as the padding supplied by Junkers. Our concrete floor was also leveled and sanded prior to installation. Humidity levels checked by a unpiined meter were between 8-10% and space was sufficient on either end to allow for expansion as this problem did not occur with the first installation using the other boards. All this was so frustrating us and completely infuriating when the company President told us she would not have anyone check the wood for quality and would only pay for a Sand and Refinish Job instead. The evidence we had from video showing the boards raised on their ends and the bad pieces and broken boards we received suggests a quality problem or that we received “seconds or thirds” instead of the best quality we ordered . The difference from from the original flooring is telling. We installed the original flooring we removed from our old location along with the same padding we had from 20 years ago and found that there was no catching . We used the same clips as the new boards as well. Interestingly Junkers hired a wood inspection specialist to come by after we attempted a sand and refinish using a contractor who followed Junkers refinishing instructions to a T. The refinish produced clumping of the product upon mixing and pouring into the pans and dry lines . We asked for new product after the first application failed. We got into an argument with the distributor again but they complied. The contractor sanded again and tried to apply Junkers HP again but it failed . Instructions provided set this up for failure but it seems that the finish has issues when combined and mixed with the hardener . Using a pan and roller system as instructed was not the best way to apply the finish Junkers hired inspector recorded this. His humidity readings showed the wood was in compliance between 8-10%. He would not share his report with us, however, because he said that he was, “paid”, by Junkers and could only obtain it from them. We never got that report. Our experience with this company has been over two decades. We have also danced on many other Junkers floors so it was such a disappointment to experience what happened to us especially given that the reinstall action of our old floor was so successful. We are still in the process of getting our floor sanded and refinished but now with another water based product out of pocket. Beware, this company does not accept responsibility for its product . The last two years have been a nightmare within the nightmare that all dance studios are facing with the pandemic. The only saving grace is having time to try an new Contractor for a sand and refinish. We have done our own research on Coefficient of friction using boards with a ballroom shoe angled at the same height as the original boards to determine the correct product to use. Finding a contractor who was willing to try this was hard. I may update this to give you guidance when we see the end result so you don’t waste tim with Junkers as this company is fraught with problems. I even tried to speak with the president in Denmark only to be dismissed.

I had the worst experience ever

I had the worst experience ever.
Expensive and terrible quality product.
If you get to read this and the other reviews you will see that you should stay away from Junckers. which should just call Junck floors. There is no way out.
If you decide to return the Junk floors, they keep 30% to themselves.
Terrible and deceiving company police. Stay away from it.

Product now 18 months old and really needs a total replacement - this was an expensive floor! Junckers response has been to find ways to blame me (wrong glue, wrong place in the house, wrong installation) all of which is not true. Product has failed. No apology or responsibility from Junckers.
