Short tour in Shimizu bull very organized!!

Short tour in Shimizu but well organized, saw the tea fields and Nihondaira lookout. Guide was flexible when we asked to slow down a bit and grab some snacks near the restqurant stop. Didn't get lucky with the Fuji view, mostly clouds, but the tea museum stop more than made up for it, learned more than I expected about how it's processed.

Yokohama tour

Took the Yokohama tour few days ago and it exceeded my expectations. Our guide knew the city well, not just the obvious tourist stops but the history behind the Minato Mirai waterfront and the older Chinatown lanes that most people walk past without noticing. The pacing felt right, never rushed. Personal tour made it easy to ask questions and get real answers. Peking duck at the end was a nice touch.

Warning: Suspected systematic fraud!

Warning: Suspected systematic fraud!

We commissioned this company in January 2026 to organize several private tours in Japan for us and paid for them in full upfront.

Based on our experience, we feel clearly deceived and ultimately defrauded, as a significant portion of the agreed-upon services were not provided.

We initially submitted a travel itinerary, which was amended at the end of January in consultation with the company (everything was documented in writing). These changes were confirmed, and we subsequently paid for all the tours.
... The following dates were agreed upon:

April 1st: 4-hour tour in Koyasan
April 2nd: 4-hour tour in Nara
April 4th: 4-hour tour in Osaka
April 5th: Full-day tour in Kyoto, consisting of two parts:

7:00 AM–3:00 PM: Guided tour with car

From 3:00 PM onwards: Guided walk from the Philosopher's Path, past temples, to Gion and Kiyomizu-dera, including a tea ceremony

What actually happened:

The organization was inadequate from the outset. Five days before departure, we requested the guides' contact information. We were assured that a WhatsApp group containing all contact details would be created 24–48 hours beforehand.

When nothing had happened 20 hours before the first tour was scheduled to begin, we had to follow up ourselves. We didn't receive a response until around 11:00 PM – only about 8 hours before the start.
... There, we were informed that no guide was available for Koyasan, as the old plan was supposedly still in place internally – even though the changes had been confirmed beforehand.

Koyasan (April 1): No guide.

Nara (April 2): Also no guide. Multiple inquiries were ignored. We only received a response after we had already returned from Nara. We received no information beforehand.

Osaka (April 4): A guide was provided, but his quality was very poor. He mostly walked ahead without comment and offered only minimal explanations.

Kyoto (April 5):
The guide's name was only given to us late the evening before.

In the morning, the driver arrived as planned, but the guide explained that he hadn't been paid by the company and demanded payment directly (USD 100 per hour).

After a lengthy discussion, he agreed to conduct the tour anyway – at his own risk.

The first part of the tour (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM) took place and was fine.

However, the second part of the tour did not proceed as agreed:

No Philosopher's Path
No temple visits as planned
No guided tour of Gion and Kiyomizu-dera
No tea ceremony

Instead, we were taken to a kimono photo shoot, which was never agreed upon and wasn't even near the planned location.

There, we were asked to change and have our photos taken. We refused, as it was not part of the booked tour.

The operator on site knew nothing about it and couldn't help us.

After a lengthy back-and-forth with the company, this photo shoot was even presented to us as an "add-on," even though it took us far from the actual tour.

In the end, we were:

without a guide
without a replacement
without transportation
and far from the planned location

simply left standing there. We were unable to participate in the remaining activities.

Particularly concerning:

After we left a negative review, we were contacted by phone and WhatsApp.

Among other things, we were told we should be "glad" because the one tour was supposedly worth more than what we paid for five tours. A refund was never offered, even though most of the tours never took place.

In addition, we were pressured and threatened to delete the review, with statements like, "Criminal proceedings will be initiated," and "We're curious to see how we plan to leave Japan after such a case." All of this was documented via WhatsApp!

Conclusion:

A significant portion of the services we paid for were not provided. Organization, communication, and execution were completely inadequate.

Ultimately, we were cheated!
