JD Gyms - Sunderland Reviews 

Went early so I could see the gym for the first time. I suffer from arthritis in my knees so I found a few machines I can use and a few I couldn't. Aim to slowly build the strength in my legs for future knee replacement operation

So far, so good, just completed first week of membership. My first 2 classes at Sunderland were definitely 'high volt' and looking forward to using the gym equipment which all looks very new. Bring it on!

Very Clean, friendly and relaxed environment, enough equipment for everyone, everything racked away, vending machines, one table and chairs, large locker room, bring your own padlock, well set out and clean, no punch bags, overall the best gym I’ve used in a long time

It’s a good gym, just very crowded at certain times, and lacks many shoulder exercises

The atmosphere, the equipments, helpful staff, the music (of course). And the over all facilities - lights, mirrors, lockers, showers all of it adds to the experience and motivation.

Great community and convenient spot, but the facility is currently struggling with maintenance. Many machines are down or on the way down and the overall cleanliness has slipped recently. Hoping to see some repairs and deep cleaning soon so I can keep enjoying my sessions here!

Plenty of machines to go at. I tend to go early and pretty much have the gym to myself. Very good value for money. If you want a personal trainer their credentials are on the wall telling you what their specialty is. There is regular contact from the gym to make sure you are getting the most from your membership.

First time entering the gym was greeted by Johnny. He showed me the app and about the claases. Booked me onto the introducton with Ashley. Found the indiction a good starting point for using machine. Overall clean and enjoyed the sauna. Liked the locker system.

I have returned to JD Gym again in late December 2025 first time since April 2025. It has actually improved by being a lot cleaner than before in the Male Changing Room plus Sauna, the four times I have been so far including busy Boxing Day. The weights are kept back in place too. Being 24 hours like my other gym where I also train at OneGym Ryhope alternate days to JD gym, they both compliment each other for myself especially childcare of my son tailor making to my training times. Got a warm welcome from few other regular gym users know me after my return here plus its near my office, so very handy for me on my hybrid working days there

Staff are brilliant, all the time in the world to explain, love the sauna, nice and kept very clean by Jan and the rest of the staff,

My Membership got put on hold for no reason and i can't access the gym anymore

The equipment is ok although generic. Definitely needs another smith machine to separate you from the other gyms and actually give people the chance to use one. You need to put some gym rules on the wall e.g Max two people per machine and no use of phones whilst on equipment...do that and I may stay longer than 3 months.
